August 22nd 2009 Western Carribbean Anyone?

Joiseymom......we are so, so, sorry you can't make this cruise. Kristine was so looking forward to seeing Rachel again.

But I'm sure you spent a boatload (excuse the pun) on the Panama Canal cruise last summer and I'm sure it was worth it.

So far we've taken a pass on every special itinerary cruise that DCL has done since we felt the cost was way too high. I, too, am curious to see what DCL will do to try to fill up the Med/Baltic cruises next summer.

I'm not surprised to read that this cruise is getting full. I think DCL did the right thing keeping the Magic in the Caribbean this summer.

As for things to do in Grand Cayman.....we've done the DCL beach excursions as well as the Stingray City excursions. They were okay.....it was convenient to have DCL handle all of the bookings as our kids were young at the time. But I'd definitely look into booking things on your own to save some $$$$.

Life has been insane right now....mostly due to sports and school concerts (its not just the actual concert but the dress rehearsal the night before). But I'm happy that I got my summer vegetable plants in the ground and made good ground on my flower beds. Last year I was in a leg cast and couldn't do a thing in the garden so I've got catching up to do.

Kids have 3 more weeks of school. Then I'll be able to focus on this cruise.

Ski-and-Sea (sorry, I couldn't find your first name on the roster or in the thread);

When do kids start school in NJ?

Out here on the west coast, all the schools I am familiar with have two or three weeks left - we have three because of snow days. I was under the impression that, in general, east coast schools ran from mid-August until late May while west coast schools tend to run from early September until mid-June.

I remember as a kid, having cousins from the east coast come visit in early June and make fun of us for still being in school. Then we would visit them and get even in late August.

For those of you who haven't paid yet, just a friendly reminder that you have one week left to get that final payment in. As of now it is 81 days remaining until we board, so if you haven't paid you have six days to get your money in.

And if anybody is looking to change their reservation, there are now some available category 5 and 9 staterooms. I expect we'll see a lot more staterooms open up in the next six days, followed by deals far better than what any of us have gotten:headache:

we didnt get any deals...except the $25 obc:lmao:..but i dont think we were ripped off or anything. we booked the day the cruises where available...and paid approx $4500 for 2 cabins one 6 one 11. compaired with what they cost at the moment..i didnt think that was too bad. some friends of ours booked a week later and paid almost $3000 for a cat 2! i will be interested to see what happens afterthe final payment date goes by..:scared1:

i have just had a look at the current pricing structure for our cruise...WOW!!! maybe we did get a bargain after all..:cool1: who knew!
btw..our friends in a cat 2...i meant cat. 10...on deck 2! ( i think).

We paid our trip off last week (May28). I was only able to book dinner for Palo, (Day 2 6:30), I was looking forward to brunch. Hopefully I can book when on board. Our stateroom is 2629, I hope we like it. We had a cat10 last trip and I like the layout and split bathroom! Looking fotward to meeting everyone!:yay:

I everyone, just found out I will be joining you all on the Magic!!! It will be my first Disney cruise and I am thrilled. I am a single mom and have 2 boys (16 mos and 3) I will also be cruising with my parents and sister. We will be staying in Walt's suite...just kidding. I couldn't read through all the threads so if anyone has young kids or is a single male between the ages of 28-34, let me know. (just kidding about the single male part):lmao: And if anyone has any tips, please chime in, I will need all the help I can get.

Wow, you did get a good deal! Did the exchange rate help? My sister went to Paris last summer, and a friend went to Italy, and neither brought me anything :sad2: because they said everything was so expensive with the bad exchange rate for us. BTW, I noticed just recently the DCL has jacked up the price on our cruise. Can't help but think it will go back down after final payments are due.

Southeastern schools tend to end in early June, and start back up again in mid-August. Up here in the north, most schools end mid-June, and start back up around Labor Day. We have the same issues with cousins. My nieces and nephew get out Friday, but they will back to school mid-August. My kids get out 6/18, but go back 8/31.

Wayne......forgot to mention the other names in the family......DH is Roger and I'm KC (its a nickname).
Added your names KC.:thumbsup2

Well I have been putting it off, and haven't actually "offically" cancelled it yet.. but we will not be going. We just can't justify the cost right now for the cruise. We booked 2 cabins, and when I tried to get us into one, I was told no go. So...I hope you all enjoy it!!
Sorry you are not coming along, as I have said before we considered it because the very low exchage rate and declining investments, thankfully both have improved in past few months, with the improved exchange rate our balance due has dropped £185 (approx $300)

Hello,

I'm Aidtrismommy's sister and will be joining her on the cruise. I'm 29 and super excited about going!!! I've never been on the new ships before (We went on the Big Red Boat many years ago) so I'm researching everything I can. See you all soon :)

Schools in NJ start a day or two after Labor Day. Public schools generally are finished the second to third week of June (June 15-25th).

I believe the private schools let out a little earlier in June.

The price of our cruise will not go down once the final payment date has passed. If the ship really is full then the prices will continue to rise up until sailing date.

My Wonder cruise last year sold out and I watched the price rise by 25% in the six months leading up to sail date. It was scary.

Boy, we certainly are getting plenty of rain lately. Its wreaking havoc on the kids' sports schedules. But my lawn looks fantastic!!!!

Don't we have a lot of Twilight fans on this cruise? Has anyone seen the trailers for New Moon. Looking pretty good :thumbsup2 (I'm a Jacob fan myself).

The trailer looked pretty good. I plan on seeing it when it come out.

The kids are done with school tomorrow.June 5. They go back on Sept. 9.
All the other schools in our area get out on June 11th.

Marina and I are going on a mother/daughter camping trip tomorrow.

Erik is in charge of Matt's birthday party on Saturday. It is at a local lazer tag place. Matt has 13 friends that Rsvp'd. Only 2 did not.

I am still working on my FE gift. I have to get a few hours free to work on more.

mind you...hes probably single for a reason..:rotfl2:
welcome aboard btw!

Auroras mommy- with hindsight we did get a good rate didnt we...:cool1:. The exchange rate helped at first...when we paid our deposits...but...unlike the advice i gave my little bro ( our 'single 29 y.o':lmao:) i didnt pay the balance immediatly...so when the £ plummeted ...the price in real terms increased by about 25%...:scared1:. But...seems to be rallying again...we are watching it every day at the moment!:lovestruc if we'd paid it off immediatly we would have saved money. (the $ was 2 for 1 with the £ at that point!)..and unfortunatly the decision to leave the money in our savings account cost us ...hey ho...you live you learn! we have done a little better with our hotels:banana: and our flights were not too bad and like i say things are looking up:cool1:
Paris is expensive...even without a weak £...i was there for a few days earlier this years with some girlfriends...typical capital city stuff i am afraid! but as to you sis not getting you a gift....well...the exchange rate should have worked in HER favour....:rolleyes1

He is not how I imagined Eward either.

I think the release date is November 20th.

ITA about Edward....I pictured him with lighter colored hair and a more muscular build.

I also felt that there was just too much makeup on all the male vampires in the film. I know they are supposed to have very pale skin but the actors almost looked like clowns as they had on so much makeup.

I guess if you don't have to sleep then you can spend all your time fixing your hair.

We will be on the Magic with all of you folks. We would like to participate in the FE if it is not too late. We ended up moving from the Tortola cruise to this one when we found out my son would be starting school a little later than usual.
