August 2024 WISH Thread…making the most of the last month of summer☀️🏖️🌊

I am woohoo that we were just on the outer edge of a bad storm yesterday. Many will be without power for days in our area. They are suspecting several tornados hit throughout the area. The rec center in a town just north of me lost their roof and the baseball field bleachers by the rec are now in the middle of the field. It was one of the worst storms I have seen in our area in awhile.

We've been fortunate so far. Lots of trees down around us. The town next to ours lost power and a friend has a GoFundMe page for the $5000 of damage to her home that insurance won't cover. We are closely watching our basement as it tends to flood.

I am enjoying the cooler weather and being able to breathe.

Woo who looks like the worst of Debi will miss us. Dreary conditions, cold and kind of wet, but as of now not awful.
Woowhoo vaca is coming quickly! While the storm has caused a lot of second guessing of transportation we have a plan and a backup plan

I am feeling thankful that were I live was on the edge of the storm on Tuesday. So far we have 2 confirmed tornados. One touched down a few miles north of us and went on for 17 miles. The other started more west and north of us and went for almost 9 miles. Us on the west side did not have a warning at all. Maybe just a matter of minutes to this. If it wasn't for a coworker hearing from his wife (she was in the city where the stormed picked up intensity and where the one tornado west of us started) that they were on code grey (she works for a hospital and this means to shelter) and my co-worker letting us know, we would have never known. My other coworker is in the city where that tornado ended and that message he sent helped her get to the basement in time. They are out surveying again today and I am guessing there is at least 1 more just north of me. There also might have been one that went through our downtown area too.

Many are without power and what they are being told it be around the 14th before it is back. We got in a tight spot as we sent crews to Florida to help them with the hurricane. We are now trying to get crews from Indiana and possibly Pennsylvania. Maybe for southern Ohio too. I am thankful that we have power as well.

I'm thankful to hear y'all are getting thru the storm OK.

I'm thankful that I got to feeling better thru the day yesterday and had a really good Pilates class. Durning my doctor appointment, when I mentioned the problems I've been having with cramps in my legs and feet she asked if I did any stretching exercises. I had to admit, no not really, I mostly just do upper body. It was almost like she called the Pilates teacher and said "make that girl stretch her legs" because we did a lot of it. Between that and taking the Zinc my legs and feet feel a lot better.

And I'm thankful to be in the fun clothes gathering period of vacation planning. I found a jacket and pair of pants I really like, both super lightweight fabric that won't take up much packing space. I am determined to only have a carry-on and personal bag. During the retreat call they said to be sure and pack your craft supplies, its fine is you wear the same things every day to make room for them... I'm down with that!

Thankful today that we will be getting rain that will cause minor flooding with only a slight chance of tornadoes. We go under the storm watch at 2am tonight and they say the rain should stop by 7pm tomorrow. It was originally scheduled to be so much worse so I am incredibly thankful.

I had a zoo day planned for tomorrow with family to include 4 nieces and nephews and sadly we won’t be able to go. Hoping we can reschedule!!

I hope your storm is not too bad and nothing like ours.

I looked at the track of both tornados and I am shocked that the one that was 17 miles went over a highway and a canal. The other one didn't go over a highway but grazed past one. They have been no injuries or deaths. The destruction could have been much worse too. They went through several developments. Though the damage is severe, most of it was downed poles/lines and trees. Here are some houses that are severely damaged but towns are not completely flatten like I have see other places.

Happy Friday! Tomorrow is travel day and I am working hard to calm my anxiety on it. Once we are wheels down in MCO I’ll be good! Need to finish packing this morning and try to keep the kids from going too nuts…having the vacation excitement combined with being stuck indoors because of rain is not a great combo. But Debby looks to be banking west and should also be well north of here by the wee morning hours. We got a good amount of rain last night but as we are on the outskirts the amounts were not out of the realm of normal for us…just not normal for August but would have been a very typical amount in like November.
Wow I am kind of all over the place this morning.

We started with the rain again last night and have lots of flooding about 30 minutes southeast of me. My drive into work was pretty rainy and slow. I am only in the office to take a big certification test that I know I am going to fail. It is not an issue if I do. I have talked with my manager and told her this certification is not something we should take. It is on financial aid but on everything you need to follow if you disburse federal funds. Which we do not. We only work with a very small portion of what is on this test. We have agreed that this certification is not for us but the smaller section certification on what we do work with would be better. It is a 2 hour test and I am still nervous about it. Once it is over I will head home and finish my day out there. I just need to get through this morning.

Safe travels! ✈️🌴::MinnieMo:smickey:

The county fair is this weekend and I'm not going to let myself poop out and not go, like I did last year, so that's number one on the weekend list. I'm also chicken sitting, as my Neice and NIL are going to be out of town, and I signed up for the next crochet class, which is doing rounds... even tho I'm already doing them with the afghan I'm working on I'd like to pick up some tricks and have her look at what I'm doing. Getting a haircut this afternoon, which is always a mood booster and will be a nice way to slide into the weekend.

Went back to the lab this morning for another blood draw to test my zinc level. Yesterday was the second day taking it and it was the first time in a while that I've had enough left in the tank after work to get a few things done before I turned vegetative. So, it is looking promising that this will help.

I am done with my test. I didn't pass but I did better in some sections and not as good in others from the practice test. Over all I did ok and better then I was expecting. I am just glad it is over. Now on to the weekend. I don't think we have a lot going on for once.

We’re here! Just finished dinner since there were some serious hu-motional things occurring but it’s all good now. Flight was great until like half an hour prior to landing when we hit some nasty turbulence but the kids were rock stars and then the guy from quick transportation texted me he was pulling into the airport just as we were coming up the little airplane tunnel thingy. Very clean car and friendly (although not chatty) driver.
Let the walking to burn off junk food commence!
