My trip report.
Tuesday August 20 to Wednesday August 28. (9 days/8 nights)
Grand Californian Hotel, Woods Courtyard View.
Walt Disney Travel Company Package - Hotel, 5 day Park Hopper with LL and Insurance. Bought a 4 day PH with LL directly from DL.

I flew American Airlines from JFK to LAX. I had a very early AM flight...7AM (car service picked me up at 4:30AM from my home on Long Island and drove me to JFK) and I landed at LAX at 9:40AM. The flight was excellent and quiet. I gathered my baggage and called for my car service Golden West Express Limo & Transportation. My driver was already at LAX and quickly picked me up and drove me to Anaheim. I highly recommend GWE.

Check-in at GCH: I arrived at GCH at 11:00AM. Check-in was easy and not crowded. My room was ready and available and I got a slight upgrade as my room was a partial pool view and a full woods courtyard view. My room was beautiful. 2 queen sized beds with a day bed sofa. I had a beautiful balcony with 2 chairs. I had noted previously that I wanted to see the monorail but it was down for this trip and my previous 2023 trip at GCH WC view room. They noted this is in my reservation and alerted Guest Relations.

GCH Stay: The hotel is my favorite. The staff were awesome. Housekeeping was great. They kept my room immaculate. I am a fairly neat traveler. I tipped between $15-$20 a day. On several days of my stay, I returned to my room to take a break or swim, I then tipped the maid who did the evening housekeeping/turndown service. So I tipped between $30 to $40 day. Turndown services occurred every night. Delicious chocolates and postcards. Bell service was timely, very professional and friendly. I had stored my bags on my last day as I had a late evening flight. The Bell Service cast members were wonderful. The only problem I has was on Tuesday, August 27, I woke up at 5:15AM to get ready for Early Entry at Disneyland, I discovered the water was not working in the room. I called the front desk and reported the issue and was told it was hotel wide and would be fixed in 30 to 40 minutes which it was. The water came back by 5:50AM. I used the time to pack and straighten up my clothes as I was checking out the next morning - the time was well spent. Later in the day, Housekeeping called me to apologize for the water situation and asked me if I needed anything - very nice touch. I found the staff at Acorn Gifts to be awesome. I forget a cord for my phone battery and Patti, the cast member told me about Fuel Road battery which are portable batteries. She walked me to the Fuel Rod Station at the GCH and for $40 I got a battery and could swap it out for another one as much as I wanted. I got over a dozen batteries...well worth it. I found the staff at GCH to be very professional, kind, courteous and friendly.

GCH gates/security to Downtown Disney and California Adventure: I found the security cast members to be friendly and professional. Security opened at 6:45AM. On early entry days to Disneyland, I left my room at 620AM and I was always in the first 10 people lined up. On regular 8AM DL opening days, I got down at 7:00AM, there was no wait and no line. I did early entry to DCA one day, I slept in and got down at 7:20AM. There was a line but I was inside DCA at 7:30AM. I found the gates/security to be efficient and friendly.

Tickets/LL: I booked a hotel/tickets package with WDTC. I had a 5 day park hopper with LL for August 20 through Saturday August 24. I bought a 4 day park hopper with LL directly from Disney for Sunday August 25 through Wednesday August 28th, I found the LL was essential to being able to do what I wanted when I wanted. LL offered flexibility. I also bought a lot of single LL for Radiator Springs Racers and Rise of the Resistance. It was so convenient and useful.

General State of DL and DCA: I found the parks to be very clean. Bathrooms were clean. I did see some messy bathrooms and full trash cans but cast members quickly got to them. Cast members were readily visible sweeping and cleaning. I found the attractions to be in a good clean state, Overall, the parks were very clean. Attractions did break down but not a lot. I found Grizzly River Run to go down a lot but it eventually came back.

Early Entry: I did EE for DL on Thursday, 8/22, Saturday, 8/24 and Tuesday 8/27. I was always near the rope near Tomorrowland. I always went to Peter Pan first then Alice, Teacups, Snow White, Toad and Dumbo. I must say I always did 4 attractions from 7:30 to 8. I did EE for DCA on Monday. 8/26, I did Guardians, Soarin and then Monsters. On Wednesday, 8/21, Friday, 8/23, Sunday, 8/25, and Wednesday, 8/28, I did not do EE but did rope drop for DL at 8AM. For me, EE for DL is well worth it and a time saver. EE for DCA I do not think it has the same value but it is worth it. Guardians is an attractions I go on once. I went on Guardians at Night version during Oogie Boogie. I did find Maters and Luigis to be walk on and less than 10 minutes on that Monday after EE at DCA. EE is a great perk for hotel resort guests. For me EE at DL is essential and for EE at DCA, 1 day is enough.

Crowds/Attendance: I did not find the parks to be packed/crowded. Only on Monday, 8/26 were the parks crowded by early afternoon. For my dates, Tuesday 8/20, Wed. 8/21, and Thurs, 8/22 were Tier 0 days and subject to DL ticket sale, the parks were not crowded just moderate. Friday, 8/23, Saturday 8/24 and Sunday 8/25 were Tier 4 and 5 and subject to DL weekend sale the parks were noticeably less filled than Tuesday through Thursday. On Tuesday, 8/27, DCA closed early for OBB at 6pm, I found DL crowded did not go up that much in the evening. When I went to OBB on Sunday 8/25, most at DCA were leaving the resort between 5 and 6pm. Overall, I found the crowds to be very manageable and this was with major refurbs, Space Mountain, Rail Road, Monorail, and all of Critter Country not operating and Tiana's/Splash not open.

Tours:
Halloween Time Tour:
On Saturday, 8/24 I took the 2pm tour, I liked the tour. The guide was very friendly. The tour is filled with history and trivia about Disneyland, Walt Disney and Halloween. You do not ride any attractions on the tour. You receive a LL bonus on our app. You get your picture taken with the 3 Hitchhiking Ghosts and receive trading cards and a pin. At 9pm, you recheck-in at its a small world viewing area (standing no seats) for the Halloween Projections/Fireworks show, the view was very good. I loved the fireworks and projections. For me, I would do the tour. The guide said next year, a visit to HM will be included but not this year because of the refurb and Virtual Queue. The tour was 2 hours. I enjoyed it and would do it again.

Walt Disney/Main Street Tour: I took the tour on Monday, 8/26 at 12PM. I have previously taken the tour which I enjoyed. I was 1 of 4 people on the tour. The guide was excellent. The tour is filled with Walt Disney facts, Disneyland History and more. Walt and Lillian's apartment is wonderful. You get your picture taken in the apartment by a DL photographer -- no other photos are allowed. You relax on the balcony with a great cookie and a drink. The tour is 90 minutes. Well worth it. I will do it again.

Haunted Mansion Virtual Queue: I arrived on Tuesday 8/20 at 12 Noon to Disneyland , I entered the VM then and I got back at around 3pm. On every other day during my stay, I booked the VM at either 7AM or 730AM, I always got called by at least 11am, sometimes by 10AM and for the later VM entry by 12/1.

Haunted Mansion Holiday: I enjoyed HMH. I rode it 9 times during my trip. If there was no VQ I would have ridden more.

Food/Dining Reservations:

Fantasmic Premium Viewing Package:
There are 17 tables on the terrace. 3 rows of tables. I was in the second row in the second table from the left - which was almost dead center in front of the stage. The view was very good. Table placement is determined by what time your reservation is recorded. The food was very good to excellent. I ordered the Chicken Pot Pie Soup, the Burnt ends pasta and cherry cobbler. Your table gets 5 large biscuits and butter..they were excellent, The soup was awesome. The pasta was good too and not too spicy. The cobbler and ice cream were very good and rich. The service was superb. The view of F! was great. I stayed to watch the fireworks and you can see most of them through and above the trees. The water projections and music on the river during the fireworks were excellent. I highly recommend this and I will do it again. Well worth the $89. The view was awesome and the food excellent. No more sitting on the ground for me.

World of Color Dessert Party: Enjoyed it very much. Checked in at 6:50PM. Went back at 7:40 to line up. We were taken at 8pm to our tables. I shared a lower table right in the center section with another couple. The dessert plate was great. Service was awesome. I loved the show. Definitely worth it and will do it again.

Red Rose Tavern: I had breakfast here once and got the breakfast egg sandwich with tater tots. I enjoyed the breakfast but I am not a fan of tots in general. Overall good.

Galactic Grill: This is my go to breakfast place. I love GG for breakfast. I ordered the breakfast bagel sandwich or breakfast burrito, seasoned potatoes, and also got the Darth by Chocolate parfit on breakfast days,. Very good food. Loved the Darth parfit. I ordered the Funnel Cake Fries with the maple syrup dipping sauce...the fries were good but sweet and heavy...the dipping sauce very tasty.

Refreshment Corner: Loved the Mickey pretzels.

Blue Bayou: I ate there twice for lunch. Had 11AM reservations. Checked in at 10:40AM. Got waterside table for each lunch. Ordered the crab cakes, the Monte Cristo, and the chocolate basque cheesecake and the pumpkin cheesecake. Food was excellent. Service was excellent. Check-in cast members are awesome. My favorite at the DL Resort.

Carthay Circle Lunch: I did the Price Fix lunch. I ordered the fritters and the Rigatoni Carbonara. I enjoyed both very much. The pasta was filled with peas, fresh corn and pancetta. I also ordered the rolls. I enjoyed my lunch very much. No dessert option offered. I think they just add your soft drink to the price. Food and service were excellent. Seated in main dining room -- awesome.

Carthay Circle Dinner: I ordered the potato croquettes. They were awesome and you get 7! I ordered the mushroom ravioli with the duck confit and the rolls. Superb! I did no order dessert. Food and service were awesome. I sat again in the main dining room.

Cafe Orleans: I had a 11:40AM Lunch. Service was excellent. Ordered the burrata salad which was awesome and the 3 cheese Monte Cristo with pom frites. Great. Got the macaron assortment for desseet - 7 cookies and you can get a small to go box for the rest!! Excellent service and food.

Wine Country Trattoria: I had a late lunch at 2:15PM. I ordered the Pull Apart Cheese Bread - I did not care for it. Did not like the flavors. Ordered the Spaghetti Bolognese with meatballs --- great!! Ordered the Pumpkin Tiramisu - very nice! Seated at an outdoor patio table which was nice..had a nice breeze. Service was excellent.

Plaza Inn: Sat inside for a late lunch. Got the fried chicken with mash potatoes and beans. Love the fried chicken!! Also ordered the delicious carrot cake for dessert.

Alien Pizza Planet: Loved the Chicken Fusilli and Garlic Bread,

Smoke Jumpers: Breakfast: Ordered the breakfast sandwich with seasoned fries. Awesome.
Dinner: Double cheeseburger with Fries. Ordered onion rings. Awesome. I love Smokejumpers!

Storytellers Cafe. Brunch: Awesome. Great selection of food. They had sirloin! Loved the characters! Dinner: Loved the prime rib and the pasta! Great selection of food. Loved the desserts. Great food and good value. Disney Visa discount.

Assorted: Loved the cookies, brownies and treats from Candy Corner and Trolley Treats.
Loved the ice cream at Cozy Cone Motel.
Enjoyed my ice cream sundae at Clarabelles.
Loved my ice cream sundae and brownie at Ghiradelli's.
Loved the Poisioned Apple cookies and Apple Loaf sold at GCH Lobby.
I am addicted to the DL popcorn...The popcorn cart - metal one at the end of BV street near beginning of road to Hollywood has the best popcorn -- it is the only cart that pops carmel popcorn fresh!!!
Enjoyed the frozen lemonade in Fantasyland.

Oogie Boogie Bash: I went on the first night Sunday August 25. I do not believe it was oversold. The crowd was light to moderate. I did the OBB Dessert/Party. I loved the Dessert plate and the parade. Enjoyed Villains grove. Did a few of the treat trails. Enjoyed Guardians Monsters at night, Got OBB clothing and shirts. Overall well worth it. Would do OBB again. Enjoyed myself.

On my last day, Wednesday, August 28, I checked out at 7:30AM via the DL APP. I called Bell Services at 7AM and they arrived within 5 minutes. They stored my bags for the day. I retrieved my bags at 9:10PM and had less than a 10 minute wait. My car from GWE was waiting for me to take to LAX for my Midnight flight to JFK. Flight was quiet and good. Landed at 845AM on Thursday 8/29. Had the same car service (car was waiting at JFK) to take me home from JFK.

Overall, I had an awesome trip!!!
I already have booked my August 2025 trip (9 days/8 nights) with GCH WC view room for the same dates. I am also planning a early May 2025 trip (9 days/8 nights) as well. It is the 70th for DL in 2025! I do not know my May dates yet as I am meeting a friend at Dl who will be staying at GCH too. For me coming from NY, the longer trips work because of the flight times to get to DL. If anyone has any questions, please feel free to ask or PM me.

Thanks to all who helped me plan and enjoy my trip!! Thanks DIS board!

Sounds like you had an amazing time! Did you venture out of the bubble on your no park days? If so, where did you go?

Thank you for your awesome report! It sounds like you had a fabulous trip. I had the same experience of forgetting my phone cord and getting a Rocket Rod--I love having it!! I'm almost glad I forgot my cord that trip.

You outlined your details so well, which I appreciate since I plan to come back and look at your notes as I get closer to my own trip (Dec). I always stay at GCH which I find especially magical at Christmas.

Did you find it difficult to get the Fantasmic Premium Viewing Package? I'd love to get that this year. We try to do something different each Dec (I go with my sister).

Thank you. I practiced booking the F! Premium on my APP many times. I suggest practicing booking. Go online on your app..a few minutes before 9AM PST or 6AM PST. Keep clicking the buttons and you hit refresh when it says not available..eventually it will become available. The packages sells out in about 30 seconds to less than a 1 minute. I think it is well worth it.

Also I think F! will be on Fridays Saturdays and Sundays for most of December. I also recall Disneyland running F! nightly during the Holiday Time season - mid Nov. to early January. Maybe someone can confirm when F! runs.

If I recall correctly, I think it was only weekends first two weeks of December last year because we left on Saturday and I was frantic to make sure we got rezzies for Friday night so we didn’t miss it…sorry, that would have been 2 years ago as I don’t think we had it last year due to fire? I do think maybe it runs nightly for those two weeks during Christmas and New Years proper. Perhaps @LKing will jump in here and give us the gospel 😊👍

What a fantastic trip. Thanks for sharing the details, it was a fun read!

I'm curious, if you had to pick, which would be your favorite meal of the entire trip? You made some great selections!

Interesting info on lining up for security for early entry! We're staying at GCH this month and if I'm reading your notes right, the Downtown Disney entrance on DCA EE days is basically no line at all right at 7pm? We're thinking about using that entrance for DCA EE (so we'd go out into DD and then up to the primary DCA gates) since that might put us closer to the rides we want for EE.

Does that sound right?

Yes basically the line disappears once it opens at 645AM so by 7:00AM/710AM should be no line. That sounds like a good strategy.

Thank you for your very informative and well organized trip report!

Check-in at GCH: I arrived at GCH at 11:00AM. Check-in was easy and not crowded. They noted this is in my reservation and alerted Guest Relations.
What was the purpose of the notation about the monorail? Do you think that notation led to you getting a partial pool view to make up for not being able to see the monorail?

I booked a Woods Courtyard view room in both January 2023 and January 2024 for my
August 2023 and August 2024 trips. When I made the reservation I told them I wanted a WC room that had a monorail view. Both this year and last August monorail was down.

Yes I think the partial pool view/WC view room was to make it up. Plus my room was ready when I checked in at 11AM.

When I called a month before I arrived to tell them the monorail would be down during my trip again, the cast member at the WDTC noted that she would alert Guest Relations.

Did they do anything for you for the water not working? I’m just thinking if it was my family, there is no way we could have made it to EE.

Sounds like you had an epic trip!

No not at that time. I used the time to pack my stuff into my suitcases since I was leaving the following day. The water was out from 5:15AM until about 5:50AM. I was worried about EE but I managed to get thru DD security gate and was first in line at the last entrance on the far right at Disneyland. I was behind the rope at 7:30AM. I was one person -- a family would have been very tight.
Housekeeping did call me later that afternoon to see if they was anything they could do and I said I was fine.

What a great trip report! Thank you for all the detail!

Did you have club level at the GCH or get turned in service in a non club level? I think we had turn down service one time in a standard room, not one trip but one single night.

I think it’s so funny that they determine which table you get at the River Belle premium Fantasmic meal by the order in which the reservations are made
My guess is it’s by the second!
06:00:01
06:00:02
06:00:03

Ha! When we did it we got lucky and were right on the rail. We must have been a 06:00:01!

Thanks. No Club level. Just a Woods Courtyard view room.
Received turn down service every night.
Every millisecond counts for River Belle Premium F!! LOL.
