August 2020 Reservations-still going?

Where are you from if you don't mind me asking? I'm assuming its mandatory to do the 14 day quarantine in your state post return from FL ..... it hasn't been said to be mandatory in mine (Virginia) ... unless I missed that on the news. I did think I heard NY was requiring FL travel to quarantine post FL

Yes, we’re from NY so will have to quarantine post trip. Unless that changes by the end of August. There’s just a lot of unknowns at this point.

We will be there Aug 22-28 staying at BWV with park tickets and park pass reservations complete. It's going to be different and wearing the masks won't be fun but we can't wait to enjoy our time at Disney!

Probably not any time soon, especially with Florida’s numbers going up as they have been.

We’re also hanging on by a thread to our Aug. 26th arrival. We have been moved from Beach Club to Poly, still have no park tickets, now the 14 day quarantine post trip (can we get tested upon return and quarantine for less time if the results are negative?). Now the delayed opening of Disneyland. Will that happen with the World? It’s really so much to think about. I still have a small glimmer of hope, but that is fading fast.

We are also just hanging on. We live in CT and we can get a negative test within 72 hours of returning, which would void the quarantine. I’m not as worried about quarantining when we get home as I am about the rising Florida numbers. I’m just going to wait and see because a lot can change in 6 weeks.

We are also still in the game for the week of August 10. I'm not deterred by the absence of fireworks, characters, shows or parades or the need to wear a mask. However, what WILL cause me to cancel is if we can't get a park reservation for HS in order to see SWGE. As a humble ticket holder staying offsite, I'm hoping there will be availability for HS when I'm allowed to book on Sunday. Trying to keep expectations in check.

With 44 days to go, we continue to debate. We are in Illinois, which is in excellent shape compared to other states. We have done all the things we were supposed to do (I personally went NOWHERE from March 15 to June 7), saw no one, did all the things. The mental health toll was getting heavy, but we did it. So I feel I’ve earned the right to travel responsibly. But where I want to responsibly travel to (Florida) is going in the opposite direction and I’m so mad! We simply don’t know how we can make a good decision at this point, because of course we are trying to find a way to justify going despite rising numbers there. I just want to contribute to the economy!

So here's my situation. I have been canceled on three times-I currently have an August trip booked.....tickets are linked(bought from Disney) my DVC is booked and flights, but I never got the email from Disney Destinations saying I would get priority booking on the new reservation site when it launches...is anyone else in the same boat? Are August people canceling?

I just cancelled. I don't like what I'm seeing with Florida's infection numbers. Not worth it.

We are 55 days. I feel the same way you do. We are from New Hampshire and our numbers are pretty good. I'm so torn about heading to Florida with their rising numbers. We feel that Disney should be a pretty safe place with all the rules in place. I think we are going to avoid Disney Springs though.

We feel the same way about Disney standards being far superior to Florida in general, And I know we will do all the right things. It’s Florida in general’s low standards AND other people who don’t take this seriously that will ruin it for the rest of us. Ugh.

We feel very comfortable with Disney and Universals standards (split stay, early August). We are a bit nervous about the airport, but will be hyper vigilant and it is a short time there and fairly short flight. We will probably end up spending a bit more money on dining. as we will not really be venturing offsite at either Universal or Disney this trip. I am still unsure if I will go get our groceries or look into some type of delivery. But we are going to pretty much just stay onsite in the Universal and Disney bubbles.

We originally had a trip planned for 8 of us (including adult kids and guests) mid-July which we decided to cancel back in May. We have some DVC points that we will need to use, so DH and I booked a no park trip in early August with just the two of us. We planned a 3 day trip to relax at the resort and use up the points that we can't bank. With the way the numbers are rising, we decided to cancel that too.

I am more concerned about being in the airport than I am about being at the resort. If we were close enough to drive, I would have probably kept it, but we are not driving in from Michigan to be there for only 3 days. I have rebooked for January, which is cutting it a little close for us to use up our points. Hoping things will be looking up by then, although I know realistically that those chances are pretty slim.

Mid August trip planned, but there‘s a 99% chance I’m canceling, just haven’t pulled the plug yet. I was able to secure park reservations, and my daughter and I (girls only trip) were really looking forward to going. When I had to reschedule our canceled March trip, I certainly didn’t think we would still be in a same situation! I went ahead and made an April 2021 reservation on Wednesday, and hope that by then Disney will resemble a little more of its original self. I’m fine with limited experiences and masks, etc., but the rising cases has me worried. Hubby is in charge of all the health and safety measures for his manufacturing plants, so it’s just not fair to him if we go somewhere with high infection rates after all these months of him trying to avoid outbreaks in his facilities. We live in Iowa, and have seen an uptick in cases this past week.

I've known we were going to cancel for a couple of months now, but I'm glad I waited since I was able to log in on the 24th change the dates and book all my park reservations without any issues. I'm from Canada, and there's no way our border will be open for leisure travel any time soon, not that I'd ever risk all the hard work our country has put in to bring our numbers down by going to a place where the virus is spreading like wildfire.

I'm just curious if the folks who are still planning on going have any thoughts about what might happen if (God forbid) there is an outbreak in the parks or one of the resorts while you're there? Do you think it's possible that a hotel or part of a hotel could be locked down if there's a cluster of infections there? Or if Disney will use their tracking data to notify you if a family that sat next to you in a restaurant was showing symptoms (no masks while eating) and then lock you out of the parks for the rest of your trip to contain the spread? What if the flight you came in on has someone with covid and Disney has that data from your Magical Express transfer? Part of the feeling of safety in going to Disney is the "Disney Bubble", but that means that they have a lot of info about your activities and movements. Does anyone have any thoughts about what might happen if Disney uses that data to contain a possible outbreak?

It's encouraging to see so much caution around the rising COVID cases. My wife and I had an early-ish August trip planned and were 100% good to go about 3 weeks ago. We're still leaning towards yes and have until July 9 to confirm with Disney, but the increase in cases is becoming an issue. We happened to be in FL earlier in all of this and the amount of people not wearing masks was startling. However, we trust Disney to actually enforce the mask policy (they seem to be doing so pretty aggressively in DS) and to also be cleaning high-traffic areas. So there's a part of us that thinks if we have our 3-layer masks, use hand sanitizer, and distance as much as possible, we're only at slightly higher risk in DW because of the possibility of more individuals in the parks being carriers. Alternatively, it will be a large mix of FL residents and tourists (I assume) so it may not be as bad, but I guess it could also be worse because of this. We're hearing more and more that wearing masks significantly decreases spread so if Disney is enforcing this consistently then we feel better about traveling there, at least about being in the World itself.

I guess I'm wondering, is there a difference between being in DW itself versus other parts of FL where masks may not be worn as often, surfaces aren't cleaned as much, etc., etc.? Is DW actually more of a safe bubble than other areas in FL? I'm leaning towards yes but would love to know what others think.

That's a great question. I would assume that they have plans in place if they're going to be doing temperature checks. If I had a high temperature going into the MK they'd prevent me from going in, but then what? They probably have a protocol, but to your point, do they figure out who else was on the bus with me going to the park? Masks are supposed to be effective in slowing the spread so even if you were on the bus with me, if I'm wearing a mask, it's probable that it's still low-ish risk for others on the bus with proper distancing and everyone else wearing masks. Plus, people can have fevers for other reasons. So I imagine they have some sort of plan in place for things like that that may not result in full lock down, at least until a test is administered and returned positive.

We're end of August, and we're still planning on going. We are driving down, and will be very careful about where we go and where we eat. Our state does not have a quarantine restriction (at least at the moment) on Florida returns.

We do suspect we've been exposed/had it already, although we have not gotten antibody tests. We probably should, but since I keep hearing that you shouldn't change your behavior even if you're positive for antibodies, we haven't really pursued it.

Honestly, I don't think theres a reason to feel guilty! I'm 56 days out and 100% still plan on going- the florida numbers are rising, but we have to remember florida is a BIG place, with MANY people. Regardless, I did similarly- stayed inside, didn't even see my boyfriend for a month. I'm in Illinois as well so its weird to think that we are good here and theyre doing poorly over there, but I think Disney has extremely high standards and will do everything to keep us all safe. And on top of that, as long as WE are responsible- wearing a mask, using hand sanitizer/washing hands often, distancing- we'll be okay! Plus, we arent even going for two months and hopefully Florida will be much more stable by then!

Regardless, I did similarly- stayed inside, didn't even see my boyfriend for a month. We feel the same way. We followed all quarantine orders by our state (PA). We didn't see anyone for 2 months. Only went to the grocery store and to pick up take out a few times. We only needed 1 tank of gas from March 15 to May 15! Followed all mask rules (and still do). But even at the peak in our state, I never felt unsafe and was just vigilant with hand sanitizing/washing, masking and social distancing. We plan to do the same in the Universal/Disney bubbles. The numbers are concerning, but we will be avoiding high risk activities as much as possible and feel the onsite precautions and enforcement are far superior to the offsite everyday activities. We are keeping an eye on the ventilator numbers in Florida because positives don't tell us much if they don't say if the positives were symptomatic vs asymptomatic. Florida is a HUGE state (almost double the population of PA) so we try to keep things in perspective and hope that things will level off soon as they adjust to the changing situation.

We're mid-August and leaning toward going but not by a large margin. We're in PA and are concerned by increasing numbers in the south. We went to our local zoo's soft opening for members this AM and in 1 hour we saw so many kids and adults alike with masks under their noses or hanging off their ears. I worry about compliance re: masks.
