August 2015 Car Rental Rate Watch

I usually do a general search every day on carrentalsavers.com and today there was a rate through Fox Rent a Car for $53/WEEK (8/5-8/12)! Yes, for the entire week. I was thisclose to booking it, but I just can't get over the horrid reviews of this place. Ugh but what a great rate!

It's too good of a rate to not book! $107 for 14 days for a full size car which is what I need....WOW! I went ahead and booked it since they don't require payment upfront but I'll make a final decision later when (hopefully) there is some feedback here on Fox Car Rental experiences.

Same rate for my week (8/29-9/5)! I am also going to book and decide later.

Btw, you can use code VEEE000001 for an additional 5% off.

Alright, you've all talked me into booking at this rate and then deciding later if a decent rate with a better company comes out. I'm not too thrilled with the idea of having to take a shuttle off MCO property to pick up the car, but you just can't beat the price!

Okay I just had a look and our 11 night rental from Aug 5 - Aug 16 for a minivan is $161 taxes in! I can hardly believe that its this good! We previously had an SUV with Alamo for $340 but that included the additional driver. Ah well, a few more weeks of checking for me but Happy Days!

Maybe Fox's rental rate will help drive down the others because I'm very hesitant to go through with this company...

I did the same. I have a two week SUV rental through Dollar for $400. It's only $212 for the same rental/time through Fox. I have used them once before. It was a total nightmare with a huge line picking up the vehicle. But it's worth booking it just in case! :car:

How is it for dropping off? Our flight will be leaving MCO at 7 a.m. requiring a terminal arrival by latest 5 a.m. What time would we have to be back at Fox to make it to the terminal on time do you think? Did you have any trouble returning your vehicle?

I've never had an issue returning the vehicle. Also, we never fly that early in the morning, so I'm not certain what it would be like at that time. I'm sure it would depend on what day of the week it is. I know we do make it a point to get to the airport 2 hours before flight. We usually add 30 to 45 minutes when returning off site just to be on the safe side. Better to be early at the airport than late and ending up in a huge security line.

I did some reading of travel reports on Fox and I am now getting a little worried about the quality and customer service. I am going to keep the reservation for now and will also keep my Alamo reservation until I can convince myself that they are okay or until the prices start to go down.

Any Dis'ers used them before, more reports would be great!

I agree. I'm not too crazy about this company. We are staying at AKL in August and although we really don't care for using the buses, I think I might lean that way if other companies prices don't drop.

We have rented a villa for most of our stay with a quick one night at RPR so have no choice but to have a car. I have used some of the other off-site places Sixt (both Orlando and in the UK), payless as well but Fox just doesn't seem to have many positive responses at all. Admittedly the majority of the reports are based around service in 2012 but oh well, we shall see.

I did check again today on Carrentalsavers.com and the Fox prices have gone back up to similar prices to everyone else.

I just rented a minivan for our 10 day trip the end of August through Alamo for $363.36.

I used the Vroom Vroom code (299851), VISA coupon code (AD2338fdf) and Alamo insiders.

I know there's been a lot of debate about using the Vroom Vroom code. I called and was told it was ok for me to use it. I also have a back-up reservation with Dollar that's just over $600, just in case.

I'm still hoping the rates go down the closer we get.

Thanks for this info! :worship: I just reserved a mid-size SUV for 8/28 through 9/5 for $258 using these codes (however, the Vroom Vroom code is actually 299851:)). I read online that Alamo allows you to use a kiosk and you get to pick your car. Does anyone know if this is correct?

Thank-you also. I haven't rented a car in Florida in about four years. I also got 258.00 fot 10 days with The Alamo codes you suggested but will keep checking as the date gets closer.

I used Alamo's online check-in for my trip last January. It worked great. I printed some barcoded thing off the Alamo website after checking in; upon arriving at MCO, I went straight to the Alamo car aisle in the garage, selected my car, and drove to the exit gate. I showed the Alamo person my paperwork and got only one question regarding my desire to pre-pay for fuel. (FYI, the answer was "no.") That was the first time I had ever used skip-the-counter renting. The previous time I had rented at MCO was from Thrifty in 2008, back when they were still offsite. I had to get in line with dozens of other schmos, and the line was glacial due to every single person being upsold on CDW, liability, personal effects, and who knows what else. But Alamo lived up to their promises.

Regarding the vroom vroom 299851, I am getting some excellent rates with that but I do suspect it is not valid for renters with U.S./Canadian home addresses. The booking process at one point indicates that CDW and liability are included in the total rate quoted, which is totally nuts because the CDW all by itself would cost more than the total rental price! Even if check-in goes without a hitch, the real test would be when something goes wrong on the road and all of a sudden, Alamo says, "Uh oh, you weren't eligible for these coverages, sorry. The phone person was wrong." So it's a gamble, one I understand some renters have taken successfully, but I would not be too happy about it myself.:magnify:

What exactly is the Vroom Vroom code and is it good for anybody to use? Right now I have a midsize SUV with Alamo using Costco 7014627, and Visa AD2338FDF for $406 for two weeks Aug 19th to Sept 2nd.

With the Vroom Vroom Code 299851 and Visa, I am down to $393 for a full size for two weeks. I am tempted to go with this one since we don't need an SUV but just wondering about the VV code validity. BTW, I live in Canada, if that matters.

The credit card I'm using gives me insurance coverage so I'm not worried about that part. I always decline the CDW anyway. I'm more concerned about getting there and them telling me that I can't rent it for that rate.

I always use the Alamo kiosks and have never had an issue. Much easier than going to the counter.

But isn't it true for most credit cards that the rental coverage they provide applies only when you decline the rental company's coverage options? The vroom vroom thing automatically adds the CDW. This could lead to an odd sort of catch-22 situation where the rental company refuses to apply the CDW due to use of ineligible discount code, and then the credit card company won't step in because you didn't decline Alamo's insurance.
