August 2015 Car Rental Rate Watch

So i was just able to get a Mid Size SUV via dollar on their city special for $238 all in Aug 13-21. Not a bad rate for 8 days. Using this as my new starting point to hoepfully get something much lower. Been averaging $160 ish for an 8 day in the past.
Just checked my dates (Aug 22 - Sept 6) since I have a mid size SUB booked as well already and Dollar is still a bit higher for me. Going through Alamo as a Disney Passholder and using the Visa coupon I have it at $423 compared to Dollar's $434 right now. I'm picking up and dropping off at MCO though (Orlando airport). Thanks for sharing though, it is quite close to my existing price so maybe for others it will work out for their dates. :)

Looks like the SUV rates for Budget went down (for my dates at least, 8/29-9/5). I didn't book because Alamo is still a bit cheaper for me. I find it odd that the cheapest rates I am finding are for SUVs. I really only need a compact, but I'll take SUV if it's cheaper :earboy2:

Joining!!! Going September 4th through the 13th. World then Cruise then World. Trying to hit Kennedy and Legoland as well

I have been checking August 22-29 for a while now. So far, using Alamo Costco and Visa discount codes, I am getting about $204 all-inclusive for an SUV at MCO. Previous posters have mentioned the oddity of an SUV being the least expensive size. I am hoping to get down around $150 or so (for any size), preferably better, but that may not be realistic in summertime.

I'm looking for a 1 day rental, less than 24 hours, from WDW or vicinity (they would need to pick up) and drop off location close to Port Canaveral. Prefer a mid size car or larger. It looks like my only option is Alamo, because that is what is available on WDW property. Using different coupon codes, I'm not getting anything under $85. At that price, I might be better off using a private shuttle. Can anyone help? I want to pick up on 8/28 and drop off 8/29 am.

Can you post the visa code?

This is the thread I need to be on! We were just checking Avis from Aug. 29 to Sept. 5, and were getting rates of $500, and over $600 when adding taxes.

We are likely on the same cruise. We did UT (drawback is you have to prepay) but they have for the 28-29 from the CCC (that will pick you up onsite from your resort) to PC $68 for an intermediate or $74 for a minivan - this with the $10 cheapest ticket they sell added to so the rental is actually $10 cheaper than these costs.

Hardis5 Can you send the information to me in a pm? Did you use any coupon codes? Do they offer a shuttle to drop off at the port? Thanks for the info!

Hi there! Are the codes valid for one day rental as well? Or is it for week long rental? We need to rent a car after the cruise just for the day...since our return flight isn't till 6 pm. I understand there are several rental agencies that offer (free?) shuttles from the port to the car rental places, and we can drop off at the airport, right? Is one preferred over another? Or are they all pretty much the same?

Rates are really high right now for some reason! I have an SUV booked at Dollar from 8/22 - 9/01 for around $290, just using the City Specials. I check every day and the prices just went way up a few days ago. They'll come down again. My goal is to get a car (mid-size or better) for under $200 for our 11 days.

We went through some high rates well into June last year. I'd have to check the old thread but it was either late June or July we all caught the break on rates we were looking for.

I was wondering the same thing!

I know it's still early but I've been checking dollar & alamo a couple times a week and prices are super high! Right now I have a standard reserved with Alamo for $368 but there's no way I'd go with that. I was hoping to come here and find someone with great discount codes to share :-). Hopefully prices start heading in the right direction soon!

I feel like I'm joining the car rental game so late. I decided to join my mom and sister for a trip Aug 3-8. (While also planning our family's 16 day vacation in December - eek) Of course, as soon as my mom and sister asked me to join them, they asked me if I'd get a car and drive. So... now to find a good rate on a small car. As of today, they are so high I don't even want to book.
I prefer Alamo and I have Disney Visa, Disney AP, and Costco. We do not have a Saturday stay.

I actually think it's still too early. Last year, I got my best rate about a week or two right before our trip. The prices only skyrocketed this week. I'm sure they'll go back down.

Boy, I hope so. I usually like to jump on rates around 6 months out. But, yes, I have always rebooked (over and over again) and can attest to getting the best rates right before the trip. But, I've never travelled in August. It's always nice to have that "reasonable" rate booked "just in case", but nothing is reasonable right now!
I'll try to remain calm and just wait.

I think the lowest rate I got in the past was about 3 weeks before we travelled. It was $280 tax in for a full size, for two weeks at the end of August from Alamo. I am hoping for something close to that price for our trip this year. Right now I am at $400 for a midsize SUV from Alamo for two weeks.
