august 2013 codes for rental cars?

Wanted to let everyone know-I got 200.00 with Alamo, using Costco code and a free upgrade coupon code for our dates-Aug 2-10. We are picking up at MCO and dropping at FLL. This is for a standard--Chrysler 200. I am a member, used the code and coupon number from Costco and entered it on the Alamo site.
Good luck!

My dates of 8/15-8/27 is still bringing in Alamo and National very high. I did snag the Dollar full size for $245 inclusive. So i will definately be watching this thread with increased interest...you guys have already saved me $300! (not that I would have rented for close to 600!)

Oh, dear Lord....it just gave me a rate of $1407.83 for a midsized SUV :faint: .

To be fair, I didn't include my $30 coupon from the Entertainment Book......so that would reduce it down to $1275 or so :rotfl: . I guess I will stick with the KLM discount for now!!!

Thanks for sharing it, though. With a little luck, it will produce a good price for someone else :thumbsup2 .

That's just insane! I have a mid size booked with it for Presidents week for 289.00 -Usually a very pricey time to rent.

There's a lengthy code list on another forum that might help others- but I think there are rules about posting links to other websites though?

It is definitely the luggage that worries us. We have 3 full size suitcases and 3 carry ons (the carry ons will fly down empty and home full....we do a lot of shopping while in the US as the outlet prices in Orlando are WAY cheaper than what we can get here at home). Now, we only have 3 people, so a suitcase can go in the backseat with our teenaged son if need be.

I'm not sure about the latest Impalas, but a few years back, I was astounded by the trunk space. I'd have to play a game of tetris to get all our luggage in the trunk of my 2003 Accord to get to the airport.

When I loaded up the Impala at MCO, I panicked. There was SO MUCH extra room in the trunk, I thought we had lost baggage! Basically, everything that had to be oriented just right to fit in TWO layers in my Accord all fit in one layer in the Impala.

If I had to guess, I'd say an Impala has more usable luggage space than a mid-size SUV.

Is that the KLM code? How long are you renting for?

Yep.....the KLM code, plus a $30 coupon from the Entertainment Book. Our rental is 8 days. Pick up at 7 pm on August 23, drop off at 10:30 am on August 31. Current rates are $249 using the code and coupon, but I lucked out on a temporary small dip in pricing about a month ago to get down to $245.

I tend to agree with you. An Impala would give us more luggage space, and the SUV would give my big guys more people space. Both important in their own right, and what makes the decision so tough!

Last year we went to the airport in our Toyota Corrolla and had no trouble at all fitting all our luggage in the trunk. When we arrived at MCO we were very happy to be upgraded at Alamo from a fullsize car to a midsize SUV UNTIL we tried to fit our luggage in the back......definitely a game of Tetris and we still had to carry some in the back seat with our kids. A Fullsize car is the way to go! That being said, the previous year we were upgraded to a premium car (a Nissan Maxima) and it still didn't have the trunk space of our Corolla.......go figure.:confused3

If me, I'd still vote for the SUV, unless the car was significantly less to rent (which could happen). Driving/riding/parking comfort affects your entire stay, plus you have 1-1.5 hour rides each way to Tampa and Cocoa. Luggage space is two 30 minute trips, plus you have half the back seat. I can't see how that wouldn't be enough...if it isn't, also plan on substantial baggage fees for the flight home.

I was just putting my Alamo confirmation in my travel folder, and I am looking at the hours of operation. Now, this is going to sound REALLY stupid, but instead of putting open 24 hours, they put 12:00 am - Midnight, but they still mean 24 hours right? I told you it sounded stupid. Why would they word it that way?

My husband agrees with you wholeheartedly.

The difference in price from the SUV reservation with National vs. the full size with Dollar's city special is $77. Not a huge deal but yet, its a nice little savings. DH says $77 is a small price to pay for a week of comfort, and I am also leaning in that direction. Still holding both reservations until we make up our mind for sure. The nice advantage to the SUV reservation is that we would have the option of a second driver for free, which also helps justify the $77 difference. Not that we usually use the second driver (me) but its nice to be on file in the case of an emergency.

No worries about extra baggage fees here. We will travel down light (we have a washer and dryer in our villa) and save lots of room for purchases. We get one 50 pound checked bag per person free with Jetblue and we will stay within that, and load up our carryons as much as we can.

I have brought my Entertainment Book with me today, and will re-run all the various quotes using their codes over my lunch hour. Perhaps there will be some changes to those rates since I last took a look.

Everybody looking for Alamo, go price your rentals NOW!!
Just got the lowest rate to date...162.00 base rate before taxes and discounts for a standard size. Previous lowest weekly rate was 186.91. My dates are August 15-29 picking up and dropping off at 2:30pm at MCO. I used the VISA code 7015504 and VISA coupon code for $30.00 off. Total for 2 weeks is $380.51.

$458.46 full size for my 8-day rental using the code and coupon. But I'm later in the month, so perhaps this is reassurance that my drop is yet to come.

My dates are 8/27-9/1 and I'm hoping that late august dates will drop soon. I have a decent deal with Dollar, but I'd prefer Alamo for the free additional driver.

Yes, I'm sure you will see more movement closer to your date. I'm almost 3 weeks out so I will be checking constantly. A friend had hers drop just 3 hours before her flight, so it's always worth a check! I'm finally down to only holding the Alamo rental since it is now lower than the KLM National one.

For early August (8/3 AM to 8/12 PM, 10 days) for a Standard I'm getting $282 vs. $180 from last Wednesday, the 17th. ( T minus 17 days )

The base rate for a Standard on that day just before 2pm was $113.97/week and $16.28/day. It was bouncing up and down a little throughout the day but that was the lowest I've seen and by the next day, rates were substantially and have stayed high.

I'll keep checking, but I'm happy with my rate and I'll be surprised if they go lower for my dates between now and the third.

If I recall correctly, the later August dates were not low at that time, so I think downward movement is more likely for them.

Oh, and as of right now, I'm getting $361.54 for 8/15 Noon to 8/29 Noon for a Standard with Insiders and AD2338FDF (Visa $30 off) which is a weekly base rate of $162. (When I tried earlier with the Visa code, I got a higher rate - not sure if it's the timing or Visa CID vs. Insiders.)

I just went through and ran the Entertainment Book discount for each participating company, and other than Enterprise, nothing even comes close to the current rates for Dollar (the city special) and the KLM discount with National. Enterprise was $330 for 8 days, taxes in, for a standard SUV (no midsize available) and $204 for a full size.

Still no response to my email inquiry to Flying Blue regarding the KLM code. I will keep you posted if they ever reply.

Using just the Alamo Insiders and the free upgrade, I have had a standard car booked with Alamo for 14 days (Aug 14 to 28) for $332 since about 10 days ago. Dollar is still winning right now with $287 for a full size car at MCO with all fees in. I'll decide in the next week or so which I am keeping

Thanks for the heads up. With no codes, my Alamo week (Aug 4-11) is still a whopping $450+. Still no movement. At that high, I don't even bother putting codes in. I'm still sitting on $145 total (fullsize) with Dollar.

Still not budging on my rates for Aug 16 - Aug 24. Around $400 for standard size. I have a $200 rate with dollar and a $260 with National but would really prefer Alamo....guess I'll just keep checking :(

Actually, there's no reason why you couldn't just hold both of your reservations. I don't like to have lots of them, but having two, especially with different agencies, isn't a bad idea in case something goes wrong.

If you've got a maximum of 3 checked bags and some carry-ons, you will not have any luggage issues with the SUV. Worst case you might have to put one in the back seat and I doubt you'll have to do that.
