august 2013 codes for rental cars?

Dollar is definitely appearing to be one to watch. An 8-day SUV rental with Dollar for my dates (August 23rd to 31st) is now down to $250 taxes included using the CAA/AAA rate code for our region. My National reservation using the KLM code is still beating it by $5, but I will be watching to see if Dollar dips a little more in the coming days.

Gina, I'm Canadian as well. I thought CAA only had a discount through Hertz.

Hmmm.. We have CAA/AAA as well, where would I go to find a code?

Here's the info on the CAA / AAA discount:

The corporate code for our area is TB7160, but yours may differ depending on where you are located. Be sure to click here for your individual CAA office's code:

Has anyone had any experience renting with Dollar? Are they one of the agencies that assigns your vehicle, or do they allow you to select your car?

I have never rented from Dollar but I did come across some information that made me choose another company last year. Apparently if you do not have any money for a toll and you go on through, there is a ridiculous service charge of something like $25-30 each time plus the toll! Alamo charged only $2 or 3 for the same circumstance.

We are very happy that we chose Alamo since we ended up in a situation where the automated toll booth was very wet (hurricane) and the money wouldn't go down the shute. After 2 or 3 attempts we had to drive through since there was traffic behind us and we immediately went into the toll station and the attendant said there was nothing he could do and we would be charged for failing to pay the toll despite having paid it 3 times already! He gave us a slip with a number on it to call if we would like to dispute the decision. It was not a really big deal because of Alamo's low rate but Dollar's rate would have been painful.

I notice that rates are starting to come down......Alamo has dropped by $150 so far and is at $526 for a fullsize for two weeks............last year we got a fullsize for $293 for two weeks so I will continue to watch...:surfweb:

We've rented from Dollar before. I don't recall if we were assigned a vehicle or not, but we had no issues renting from them.

I started off using a BJs code for our August rental, then got a better rate using no code, and now an even better rate with the AAA code!

I have no worries about having change for the tolls. We always carry a pocketful of US coins with us when we travel (we find them all the time in our Canadian change, and set them aside for this very reason) and $10 or so in ones.

So far, the Dollar rate is still $5 more than my National reservation (which also allows for a free 2nd driver, which is another consideration) but I am definitely going to continue to keep me eye on their rates. I know National will allow us to pick our own vehicle too, which is another bonus.

We haven't used Dollar but I do believe that they assign a car to you Gina.
I was worried about that when we used Budget but we got a great car and dh said if it had been a lemon we would have just asked for another.

Ironically it was Alamo that was the stinky car that smelled like mould whenever we turned on the air conditioning.. and we picked that one not knowing:rolleyes1.

The dollar rates are looking pretty good for me. I can't get it lower than 270 because of my extra day. I don't have CAA anymore and though I probably should I don't know that I want to buy it right now for a car discount. I am going to keep watching though.

I've mentioned before the 4th of the July was when I got my lowest rates last year and it looks like it might be dropping in the same way this year. I love it when the drops start.. it's as close to a gambling rush as I'll ever get.:lmao:

We did have change for the tolls but the coin slot was so wet from the driving rain that the money would not go down the hole so even though we did pay (3 times!) it still said we didn't and took a picture of our license plate as if we didn't pay. The toll booth attendant was completely unhelpful so with Dollar we would have been charged that fee.

We rented from Dollar.. This is the first year we Rent a car... Where would we encounter tolls and how many. We are just going from the resort to the parks and maybe the outlet stores.

You will encounter the tolls going from the airport to the Disney area (and reverse). There are ways to avoid them, but you're looking at a much longer trip (in time, not distance). There are two tolls between MCO and WDW. I think they're around $1.50 each, but don't quote me on that.

Once you're at or near Disney, traveling up and down (actually, east and west) on I-4 is toll-free. You can travel from Disney to the outlets, Sea World, Universal and even Daytona without paying tolls on I-4.

Thanks! Gina, we are Ontarian so it's the same corporate code. Current Dollar gives the best rate.

Is there a coupon code out there to sweeten the deal even more?

Does anyone know where is the closest Dollar car rental place is from Universal Studios >>> would love to drop off before staying onsite at Universal.

thanks.

I haven't been able to find a coupon code yet (there isn't even one in the Entertainment Book :headache:) but I will let you know if I can dig one up!

Alamo and Enterprise have now dropped for late August along with Dollar. Still about 70 more than I want to pay but getting close.

Thanks for the heads up! Last night my Alamo went down from $418 to $374 - this morning it's down again to $340 for 12 days. $28 day for a standard - hope it goes down a little more - but I'm good if it doesn't.
Insiders discount + $30 off coupon AD2338FDF

Must be a "late" August thing----my early August searches are showing the same or slightly higher :sad1:

Maybe a "mid" August rather than "late."

For a midsize (with the AD2338FDF coupon and Insiders pricing), my 8/3 10am to 8/12 6pm comes up as $447.77 while 8/10 10am to 8/19 6pm (exactly one week later) comes up as $301.66 for midsize.

Huh. I guess it's coming in on the 3rd that's the problem. 4th-13th gets the #301.66 price, too. Grrr.

Right now my best deal is using AAA discount with Dollar. 8/5- 8 pm pickup until 8/14 6:30 pm drop off, full size is 266.32 including taxes and fees. Looking back, in 2011 for late August I paid 138 with Alamo, would love to get that again.
