59 days for us, less then 2 months. Its going so fast, I started counting down at 145 days, lol. I wanted to do a 60 days til Disney party but we had Yds birthday so Ill start planning my big 50 days til Disney party. Not sure of the theme yet but need to start figuring it out.

Can I ask a question today?
If you have gone to Disney before, do you typically travel in August? What has your experience been in summer with crowd and what do you like about August trips? If you havent, why August 2012?

Weve gone in March,April,May,June,July,August and October. So I guess theres really no "typical" time for us:goodvibes. We had to choose August this year because my son is taking an extra college course through the Summer, so it was either August or not at all!

I like August alot! Although hot, it's doable as long as you pace yourself-for example, we dont stay in a park all day long:eek: We take nice long breaks by our resort pool and have a nice lunch in an air-conditioned restaurant and maybe even a nappy:) and then we'll go back to parks at night when its a little cooler and we've rested. We've been there enough to know what our "must-do's" are so we dont do commando touring anymore.

August is one of my favorite times to go because of the lower crowds and lower resort pricing. Unfortunately, we missed FD by 1 week:rolleyes:

We usually go in Aug. Here in NJ Aug is just as hot or hotter than FL. I like to go just before we go back to school. This year we picked late in Aug because ds1 is working and his school gets out the 16th and ds2 is taking a grad course and we thought he would be done. We just found out that ds2 is finishing his grad course the week we are there and ds1 is starting one that week. Fortunately both are online courses.

I also just agreed to teach some prep courses that go until Aug 9th.

I agree with litlpixie that you take is slow. Go back in the middle of the day and rest and then hit the parks again at night.

Ds1 was in DW the first week in Aug 2 years ago and he said that it is a lot more crowded that week than the 3rd or 4th week.

We chose 19-26 because of my school schedule, our work schedules and we got decent prices on everything. Also if I have to deal with heat anywhere I go, I'd rather go somewhere with fun!

I could NOT agree MORE with the above statement!:thumbsup2::yes::

:wave2:

Me and my family are going Aug 4th-11th. I don't start back to college until the 4th of September so this will be a great time to go....I hope:laughing:

We have dining reservations at
1900 Park Fare
Ohana
Garden Grill
Via Napoli
Olivia's

All our favorites especially Olivia's. One of the best kept "secrets" of Disney. popcorn::

This will be my 21st trip and I'd say probably half of those, if not more, were in August. I love going in August. It is SOOOOO hot and you sweat like crazy but I actually LOVE the summer (can't stand the cold) so I'm okay with it. It's very easy to cool off at any time during the day. I just remember one day it was so hot, we were literally running from shade to shade around World Showcase.

I don't think the crowds are so bad. Careful use of FP and the crowds don't even enter the equation for me.

3 Of our last 4 trips have been in late August. It works out better with the kids camp schedules and we like to get in a last minute vaca before they go back to school. I'm another one who loves summer and hot weather so the heat isn't really a big deal for us. With all the deals and the low crowds we just can't pass it up!

We've never been in August but we've been in the middle of July. The weather can't be that different and I'm hoping the crowds are less crazy. I'll tell you though... we used touringplans and the Unofficial Guide previously and we barely had a wait time!

Besides, we're from Texas! The weathers actually better in Florida in August!!:laughing::laughing:

Okay I'll bite.....

QOTD: Do you visit the waterparks while at WDW, if so which one do you prefer and why?

Oops, I forgot to answer....

We actually do go to the water parks each year. Since our trips are for two weeks, I like to mix up the park days with a couple resort/pool days and a couple WP days thrown in.

I don't think we have a favorite although we usually end up going to TL twice and BB once. We love the wave pool at TL and the Family raft ride at BB. I love the mini donuts at both! :cool1:

We've been to both and prefer TL. It's been a few years though since we've been to the WP's and I would love to go while we're visiting-I just dont know where I would fit it in our itinerary...........:scratchin....oh now you've got me looking to change things around cuz of your waterpark talk:goodvibes

We haven't gone to any of the WPs before, however on our trip (in August/Sept) we are going to try out both of them. We are also going to be trying out DisneyQuest for the first time too :goodvibes and we are all very excited about this. I can't wait to see the responses to the QOD because I am curious to see who likes which WP better....not that it will really make a difference, because I know we will have fun either way :lmao:.

I love, love, love coming to this thread and seeing all the excited people. Isn't is wonderful that we will be in DISNEY soon:woohoo:
It is extra special because Me and my kids will be joining my brother there, who we havent seen in over a year and we timed it perfectly that we arrive at the airport at approximately the same time. So magical express here we come.
Also he hasn't been there since we were teenagers and all Disney was was The Magic Kingdom, boy will his head spin with all the great things to see and do!
:cheer2:Yeah Yeah Yeah DISNEY:cheer2:

OH, that is awesome!! I do hope you all end up riding Magical Express together. How awesome! Oh yeah, even if it's only been a couple of years since he's been, a couple of years can make such a difference. :goodvibes

Epcot and Magic Kingdom are my favs. Epcot was the first park we visited on my very first trip to the world so it holds special meaning. But I cry everytime I walk on to Main Street in MK LOL

77 Days !!! :flower3:

I am a MK castle crier too lol:thumbsup2

:wave2: Hi! My name is Ann and I'm a castle crier. This is the support group for that, right?? :lmao:

I have never been in August before. Prior to my marriage I've been in June, December, February and April. We got married on September 18th in 2010 and brought my daughter to Disney for our honeymoon, so it's now a tradition to go late summer. We went in September last year, too. This year Victoria will be a freshman and she didn't want to miss any school, so we opted for the latest time we could --- we return the night (10:30pm) before school starts!! We are cutting it close, for sure! I've read that it's going to be hot, so I think I'm prepared for that, but for us the big draw is LOW CROWDS. All of us dislike crowds, so a low crowd time of the year is a must. Free Dining doesn't hurt, either!!! :rolleyes1

I know I'm really late to the party but I just found this thread last night.

We'll be at WDW from August 3rd thru August 13th. Staying offsite in a rental condo. We've been planning this trip for over 2 years and have just made some major changes due to almost half of our group having to cancel.

Less than 2 months to go now and I'm really getting excited! :cool1:

It's NEVER too late to join in the party! Welcome and enjoy! :dance3: :yay:  :cool1: :dance3: :yay:

I have never been to the waterparks. We have a pool and a great waterpark about an hour away from where we live. Neither my husband nor I are big swimmers, so it really doesn't interest us much. Maybe someday.....:confused3

We love the waterparks.. Like them both maybe TL a bit better.. We are not going our next 2 trips to them but we are in April.. I notice if we go too much my kids get bored too easily so if we go far and few inbetween they love them more

We've been to the waterparks. I like both of them equally. I am not a huge waterpark person to be honest. I'm good for a few hours, maybe half a day if I'm really enjoying myself and then I'm outta there:rolleyes1

My husband and son LOVE them though and seem to enjoy the waterparks as much or more as the theme parks! So we compromise and dd and I leave early and go do something else.

For this reason, when we got AP's this year we got the ones that include waterparks for DH and DS. DD and I just got the regular ones and will buy a single day ticket with the AP discount on our August trip. I'm happier to hang out at the pool.

First time August travelers to WDW. Preferred time was week of MLK in January, when the kids were younger. Now my oldest DD is in HS and with the amount of homework she has, no way she could miss a week. Staying at the Poly, got a decent discount, so chilling by the pool during the midday should help with the heat. Picked week based on crowd levels and not to miss soccer tryouts.

QOTD: Do you visit the waterparks while at WDW, if so which one do you prefer and why?
No waterparks. Additional cost & were usually closed during our Jan trips. Rather spend time at parks or in pool.

Add me to the August list! Doing a split stay:

August 15th-23rd @ AKV-Kidani Village
August 23rd-28th @ BWV

And in response to the QOTD: not on every trip, but this July I'll be doing a day at each! Typhoon Lagoon is my fave though.

69 days and counting!!!

we ALWAYS make sure to do a WP, we are totally in love with typhoon lagoon :goodvibes it's just one of those parks that no matter what we always have an incredible day together as a family!
