August 2012 Car Rental Thread

Yes they do and it is $10.00 a day. Mousesavers has info on all of the rental car places and if they do and do not charge.

Thank you. That tipped the scale for me. I was on the fence about renting a car or sticking to Disney transportation. $150 for the week was tempting, but if we have to add $70 for a second driver, then no dice. That's a silly thing to charge for. DH and I are both insured on the same insurance policy- what difference does it make which of us is driving?

I checked the Dollar site today and there was a Orlando city special for a full size available to me that wasn't there previously. I bumped my mid-size up to a full size. Just FYI.

Exactly what I am doing - keeping my National rental! I am going to suck up the difference of 44 bucks and not having to worry about toll charges, gas receipts for a full tank return, etc...

But I will continue to monitor the rates for my dates for last minute deals :surfweb:

Me too!

The Dollar "special" is $185 after taxes/fees and my current rate with Alamo is $158 (for 9 days, midsize). I'm guessing it won't get much lower than what I have but one can always hope!

What discount code did you use for Alamo? I've been getting rates over $300 for 9 days (Aug 3-12) with all different discount codes?

My Alamo rental has dropped another $15 as of today, 7/11

My rate is now $174.20 for a standard car, or $181.37 for a full size car - which I am told there is no standard isle at MCO, so when booking a standard, one actually chooses from the full size car isle - but I have never experienced that personally.:confused3

My dates are 8/7 to 8/16 - pick up/drop off at MCO
Codes used : BJ's corporate code 7014696, E.Coupon code AD2359FDF

It was actually on July 4th and I don't know if that had anything to do with the rate. I used the insiders code and the $35 off that everyone else is using (AD2359FDF I believe).

Currently my rates are back up to more than double that (8/25-9/3) with Alamo. Sorry I can't be more helpful.

No problem. I believe the rates after mid August is low to begin with.

I currently have a car booked with National for $230 for my 9 days (using the KLM code) which is ok. I wanted to change the drop off location to DTD so I can take the ME and not have to drive 6am to MCO (flight is 7:40am) but the KLM code jumps to over $400! :confused3

Oh well... more :surfweb:

Thanks.

Just a heads up, my DH told me his company had a discount. I thought to myself, yeah right, you are going to tell me the planner who has been obsessed with car rental prices for months how to do it cheaper...to molify him and prove to myself how superior my opinion was:lmao: I told him send me the info...

Well guess what, he was actually a help! In all the years he has "tried" to give me advice about our Disney trips (usually outdated or inacurate) he got an important one right:rolleyes1

So this is my long winded way to say check if your work or your spouses work has a discount! It may make a huge difference.

I got a 10 day in August for a minivan down to 410. and that is saying something because the discounts on Mini vans have been few and far between.

This code is not one to share, because it will not work unless you have your work ID;)

I don't know if anyone notice but lately the only airport in Florida that Alamo has been offering last minutes seem to be Daytona. That's of no help for any of us.

We need a car 8/18- 8/26. However we are flying into Tampa this trip because we got better airfare and times that way, plus non-stop flights. We really prefer National. We have always rented with National (Emerald Club members) at MCO. The best I have been able to find is $239.00 total for a midsize....that's with the #1234567 code and ND8578ADT/$35 off. I'm so frustrated because we've never paid more than $175.00 for a week. This is actually an 8 day rental but still seems high to me!!:headache: Does anyone know which rental companies are on-site at the Tampa airport? I may start comparing prices!

Alamo base rates for my dates (Aug. 22-28) dropped this afternoon by about $70. Not good enough for me yet, I have a much cheaper rate with Dollar ($116) but thought someone might want to check it out.:flower3:

They sure did drop

These two codes work:
Amex code: 7014291

$35 coupon:AD2359FDF

Unfortunately, I don't have Amex, but I'm seeing a better rate for my dates with either the Visa (7015504), Insider's (7015135) or AA (7014136) codes. For example, a compact with any of these codes is $229 all in, whereas the Amex code is $267 - discount is bigger, but the base is $75 higher.:flower3:

My Alamo rates this morning were even lower than what I saw yesterday afternoon. It's still not as good as what I found a few weeks ago, but it's close. I have a full size for 11 days for 206. It's at 260 today.
So they are still dropping and everyone should take a look:)

Yea! Just got my Alamo rate down to $151.59 (with tax and a free additional driver) with the Costco ID and $35 off coupon from AA. Dates are 8/14-8/22. It was still cheaper to put in 10:30 as my pick up time instead of 11:00am. Drop of is 11:00 am.

Sent from my iPad using DISBoards

YES! Just beat my lowest rate!!! :cool1:

Alamo 8/15-8/25 using AmEx code & $35 coupon

$170 all in :thumbsup2

DO you have an Entertainment book? There is a coupon in there and I got my rate down to 229 for the week.:thumbsup2
