August 2009 code watch

Still deciding if we will go back next year (probably wait til September) or wait til 2010 to go back. Hoping for free dining or a very good deal to come along.

We are also planning a trip for August 2009. We went in August 2007 and loved it. I am new to this forum and I wonder if someone could tell me about the discount codes. We would like to go the last week of August and get the FD package. Can I book now and then update it when the FD goes public? Also, what other discounts could become available? Any info is really appreciated. Thanks!!

Can you add FD to your reservation when they offer it? We also want to go during FD and I was wondering about booking now and adding it when it comes out. Any info you can give me would be great! Thanks!
We had already booked our vacation package well in advance of the free dining promotion announcement this year. After it was announced we called back to see if we could have it added to our reservation (we had the dining plan on our package anyway). We were able to have it added provided we wanted to upgrade to a different view. Even with the higher priced room we still saved several hundred dollars.

Tigger_03,
did you book directly through Disney when you were able to add the FD? I have received a quote from AAA for just hotel/tickets that is over $600 cheaper than DU, but due to some not very experiences with AAA (their staff doesn't seem to know as much as I do about Disney), I'm not sure they could handle it. The lady I spoke with today from AAA said we would have to cancel our current package if the FD offer came out, and rebook. I'm afraid of losing my room this way.

I am not sure as I have never booked a AAA/CAA rate, but from what I have been reading you can book the discount directly with Disney. If you did that you would have no problem changing it if FD did come out. But you would not be able to do both the AAA rate and the FD. $600 is a good chunk of cash, it would be close on whether it would be a better deal. Guess it all depends on how many people you are going to be feeding with FD.

We have 5 in our family, so the FD would be a tremendous savings for us. I was told though that you had to book a package (at least hotel and tickets) to get the FD and you can't do that via Disney and get the AAA discount - it has to be a room ressie only. I'm so confused and afraid I'll make the wrong choice.

yes, if you are booking a room only ressie you will need to cancel it and book the package for the FD. Even if you booked it with Disney. From what I understand anyways.

But think of it this way, the only way you could get screwed here is if you book your AAA discount and FD comes out and for some reason you go to change it over and the hotel is all booked up. But, if the hotel is all booked up, they wont be putting out FD. So really I don't see you having a problem.

That's a good point! I didn't think of that. We have a family of 5, so I guess if I had to move to a different resort (we are booked at the POR in the Alligator Bayou section with a trundle), then that's my one chance in life to stay at the Poly!!! ;)

Thanks for the info tigger 03. I'm going to book early!
You're welcome. Glad I could help.

Yes, we booked directly through Disney. Once I found out about the free dining we called back to see if we could get it added to our reservation. Even though we had to upgrade to a different room to get the free dining package it still saved us money.

I'm not sure how AAA works because we've never booked through them (nor do we have AAA).

We originally thought about staying at SoG and buying our tickets through them. After we compared we actually ended up saving money by going through Disney (having the free dining helped) since we'd have to pay for our own meals and DH really wanted the dining plan.

I just had another question. We were thinking of booking from Aug.21-31/09 because I am a teacher and I have to be back for work. If I did this could I add FD when it comes out for the portion of my trip that it's being offered. (Aug 23-31) ? If I do should I pay for the dp for 21&22 or should I just pay for our meals? We're a family of 5- 3A and 2C. If anyone has an answer for me I'd love to hear it ! Thanks

Yes you'd be able to add the free dining for the part of your trip it applies to. That is what we did last year when we learned about Free Dining.

I am hoping for it again this year, or another code (got one for 40% last year)...because we didn't book bounceback, because we weren't planning on going in 2009...and now my boyfriend wants to take his nephew in August! So heres hoping!

Hoping to go next august too for 14 nights.Haven't been to Florida for 2 years and will be taking my Disney virgin botfriend this time-very exciting!!!

Does anyone know what sort of discounts are available to general public at this time of year?

We're going on a "short trip" next August as well - 6 nights/7 days - staying at our favorite Pop. Hoping for a code of some sort because in July it looks like we're going on an 8-day cruise to the Carribbean - daughter's HS graduation trip - sort of downgraded from Ireland like I planned - but should be fun nonetheless. Here's hoping that these 2 trips don't break my back!!!:lmao: :lmao:

Dh, the family and I just decided today on our August dates: August 6-15, 2009. I am hoping for a good rate.

Those are our exact dates too! Where will you be staying? We are going to give Pop Century a try. A little nervous 'cause we've never stayed at a value.

The value season starts on Sunday August 9th. I will be there on the 8-16 at POFQ for my honeymoon! The first night was charged the peak season rate but the rest of the nights are at the value season rate.

Where did you find this information? Thanks!
