August 2008 Disney Trek PTR

Havinfun thanks for the compliment on the picture. There were 6 or 7 balloons flying when we came out of church and on the way home I pulled off the side of the road to get that picture. I think it was well worth the stop. I love balloons. Thanks for reading our PTR. :)

Love the Disney photos as well as the hot air balloon! You've got a good photographic eye!

Thanks moparop that was very kind of you to say. How are plans for your trip coming along.

11 weeks from yesterday we leave Ohio and 11 weeks from today we're arriving at Pop Century!:cool1: :cool1:

Gotta love those milestone days!

The best ones are when you're so close that when you go the grocery store you are saying to yourself, "I'll be in Disney World by the time this gallon of milk expires."

Our ticker is telling us 37 days, 22 hours, and 1 minute right now!!!

You're right Memom. I love celebrating the little milestones. Before we know it you guys will be there and then we'll get to see your trip report and pics and then we'll be going. :woohoo:

Its a good thing we'll have MeMom's trippie to kep us entertained. Looking outside at the rain showers, I could use a vaca right now!

I know what you mean Pooksma. I'm ready too. At least we have sunshine right now, but I'm still ready to go. I just found out a guy I work with is going to WDW June 3. I can't believe he hasn't said anything about it until now. They're staying at Wilderness Lodge. Maybe he thought I'd drive him buggy talking about it if he told me before now :lmao: I asked him if he'd been to the Disboards, and he didn't even know what it was. :scared1: How can you go if you haven't been here to learn all about it. :confused3 Anyway, he's excited and promised to show me the pictures when he gets back so that's something else I can look forward to.:)

You were asking about the Pop room preference, right? Here are my thoughts, for what they are worth.

We were in the 70s Big Wheel right by Classic Hall the first on-site stay. It was a very good spot - just a very short walk to the bus stop if we went right out our door and to the food court and pool if we went left.

We were in the 50s Jukebox last summer. If you are standing at the bowling pin pool looking at the jukebox, we were just to the left, ground floor, right at the dancing guy's legs. Everybody liked being right at the pool, and the noise was not a factor at night. We had no problems with pool noise or foot traffic. It was also a great location in the fact that our decorated doors and windows were highly visible. Lots of people, including Disers, non-Disers, and lifeguards, came by and signed our dry erase board. It was fun coming in from the parks at night and seeing the comments and hellos.

When the boys and I went in November, we were in the 80s Roger Rabbit. You could see the Welcome to Disney arch on the main street if you went out our door and just to the right.

We are all young enough and healthy enough that the walking to the room is just not that big of a deal. Even with my cut-up lame leg, it's really no more than a couple of minutes to walk anywhere around. For going back and forth to the food court, yes, it is nice to be close, but again, really not a huge deal to walk even from the farthest spot, as far as I am concerned. I walk the whole place about every morning, anyway, on my picture-taking excursions.

If I were going to choose a perfect place, I'd say that the 70s Big Wheel or 50s Lady buildings are most convenient. If you want to be where the action is, get a 60s room on either side facing the pool. If you want quiet, ask for lakeside. It all just depends on what you want for your group. We have thought about requesting 60's non-preferred this time so that Jill can get to the kiddie pool with Brooklynn a little easier, but 60s non-preferred may be hard to come by. Trent wants the bowling pin poolside area again. I want to stay in a different building, so we can try everything from all angles, so I really don't care where we are. I hope we can get connecting rooms, but if we don't, we're fine with that, too. As you can see, I'm not picky about where I am when I am in Disney World. ;)

Thanks Memom for all the info. :flower3: We stayed in the 80's building by Roger Rabbit but we were facing the parking lot. We really liked the location except for when you'd get back late at night and knew you still had to walk 5-10 minutes to your room. I appreciate all your help.

Hi ,

Your Disney night looks like so much fun. I am 51 and have watched the "Planning WDW trip" 3 times all ready. I haven't watched Lion King in a long time. Soon as my Air Force son goes to his new base I am going to watch it along with my other Disney movies. Since he's been home I don't get my turn at the TV too often. Also I have summer vacation off starting June 2nd. I will have lots of time to plan and watch. I am looking forward to reading the rest of your pretrip, since we will be there at the same time.

havinfun I'm reading your report too. Isn't this fun?

We've got 10 weeks!!. In fact right about now we should be around Richmond KY on I-75 heading south. :woohoo:

Here are 2 of the drawings my DD has done.

WoW, your DD's drawings are amazing. Here's alittle info. that might be of interest for her. At MGM... errr Hollywood Studios there is "The Magic of Disney Animation" , its just right of the Hat in Animation Courtyard. We went here last Dec. they have 15 min. classes on drawing characters, and then you take the drawing with you at the end. We drew Donald. After the class you can go back around to the entrance again if you want and do it again, as many times as you want. I believe each class is a different character.
We also are going end of august and want to do this again, my 7 yr. old grandson loved it.

Glad to find another August Pre-trip. You are correct that learning things from other people and this forum is a great wealth of knowledge. I am going to have to start turning up the magic in my house. Can't wait for the new disney movie release. That will help with my DS & DD. Of course my DW and I are already counting the days.

Im_with_Dopey Thanks for the compliment on my DD's pictures. She'll be really thrilled to know someone liked them. We did that animation thing when we were there in 2006. Absolutely loved it. We drew Donald too. Of course DD's actually looked like Donald, I won't say anything about what I drew. :lmao: :lmao: I plan to do it again this time too. I thought it was a lotta fun. :)

Chkysbak I'll be checking in on your report. I just read the 1st post, but I'm on my lunch break and need to get back to work soon. Anyway, it's always great to find someone else that will be there at the same time we are and this board is a great place to get lots of good information, plus just to receive some of the magic :goodvibes that makes the wait bearable (but just barely):rotfl:

Not much going on right now for the planning, so I thought I'd post a couple more of the pictures my DD has drawn.

This is the girl from High School Musical (I forget her name)

We got our specialized maps from disney.com today!! I didn't expect to get them for a couple of weeks. I just ordered them last week and we already got them. Here's a picture of the one from MK.

It's so fun to get a little bit of pixie dust when you're not expecting it.:tinker:

We also went and bought the girls new shorts and tank tops today to wear at Disney and also summer camp. Youngest DD will be counseling primary camp next Monday and Tuesday and oldest DD will be counseling Middler camp Tuesday through Friday. Then the next week oldest DD goes to Senior High Camp and the week after that youngest DD goes to Junior High Camp. As you can probably tell, the month of June is going to be very busy for our kids. ::yes:: But that usually makes the time go faster, which means the 9 1/2 weeks til Disney should pass really fast. :thumbsup2

Memom your trip will be here before you know it. You just have about a month left, right? Then the rest of us (Chkysbak, Pooksma and Declansdad, havinfun, moparop, Im_with_Dopey, mom3sonstt, Native NYer, Nicole786, and all the rest) will get to hear all about your trip which hopefully will make the last few weeks before our trips more bearable. :hyper:

Ok, I have to leave now as we need to go to the grocery store. :( Man that's quite a letdown after the Disney excitement.

Talk to you later.

We just ordered our 10 day Park Hopper Passes!! :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo:

We also called and requested a room in the 50's section of Pop Century thanks to Memom's suggestions. Hope we get it!!

This has been a fun day. We got our maps, ordered our tickets and made a room request. WOW, I just love all things Disney! :cool1: :cool1: :cool1:

Did you just request 50s, or did you request a particular building, section, or floor? We liked the bowling pin pool, because it was never very crowded.

Doing anything toward your trip is super exciting! We just got our Magical Express stuff last week, and I just looked through it over and over. I could really picture us walking out of MCO and getting onto that Magical Express bus headed for Pop!!!

Ten day hoppers - that's awesome! Are you doing waterparks, too? Trent, Kristi, and Drew did both BB and TL last year.

Now that we're under the thirty day mark, it does seem very, very close for us. I have my suitcase in the back room, and I'm tossing little odds and ends in it as the days go on.

You know I will have a lot of fun taking pictures for you guys to enjoy as you all wait for your last weeks to pass by. If you have requests, I'll take them from anyone and do my best to get them for you.

Glad you had such a great Disney-filled day!
