With all of the discussion about temps I thought I'd take a look at the temps for our trip destinations later this month. Holy Cow!!!!!!
Vegas is 108 F....
Death Valley is 120 F... (48 C)
I showed my DD and she just stood there with her mouth open and said "Do we have to go?"

I used that familiar phrase... "Its a dry heat" not like the humid heat here.... Geez I sure hope it is... Otherwise I'll be one dehydrated blob when I get back...

Cheers,
Grumbo

Andrew thanks for your perspective! I really appreciated your view of the heat and each spot in particular.

I love deck 4! Guess I'll be sporting a hat for this cruise as well!

The weekend went by soooooo fast.... Now back to work Monday & Tuesday for my 12 hour shifts. The car show in Merchantville, N.J. was great over 700 antique cars but it was really hot!:sunny: I also don't do real well when it is VERY hot. I am bringing lots of sunscreen!

Hope you all had fun on the weekend. Have a great week!:wave2: :earsgirl: Toodles, JEANNE

My doctor upon asking said two things: sunscreen and water. Use one drink the other...your choice.
I am planning on getting light weight , light colored clothes. Hats are vital, especially for those with Male Pattern Baldness. I have one of those neck things purchased in April at WDW. Worked really well. Will be bringing that too. I figure the hottest will be the canal because we will be moving so very slowly. I think it is only about 9 mph or some such.
Got to go swimming this afternoon. Eldest DD has a friend with a nice house and above ground pool. Nice, water was about 90 degrees. Enjoyed just relaxing and having a nice quiet afternoon.
Talk to you all tomorrow. Estelle

I don't know if you all read the message I posted on the cruise boards, but if you are interested in playing games or cards on the trip you need to bring your own. It is too bad Disney doesn't at least provide cards. We sailed Celebrity in January and they'd give you as many decks as you want at no cost.

Just a quick check in as it looks like i'll be a lurker for a while. This pregnancy is taking a whole lot out of me both emotionally and physically. Still need to wait til July 20th for next Ultrasound. M/S is all day and night in waves, I have already popped a tummy so my pants don't fit anymore and I am tired all the time.
Poor Ryleigh can't figure out what is wrong with me but mommy can't pick her up and she is a little confused.
Have sent a letter to the contact that Andy sent me but haven't heard anything yet..... if it doesn't work out... at the moment, I'll be thankful that we have had the opportunity to get to know such a wonderful group of people.
Maybe we'll come and greet you all when you get off the boat and do a week at WDW!
Fingers still crossed though!

Hugs
Suzanne

Just some of the guys relaxing in Diversions throwing back a few.

:wave2: Hi guys, I have been away from the thread for sometime now due to my FIL having emergency surgery. He is 84 and went in for a regular dr. visit and they sent him straight over to the hospital for emergency surgery. His spinal column had grown closed and he was very close to paralysis. Due to his age, it has taken some time to recover. Hopefully he will go home this Friday from the nursing home where he was receiving therapy. It has been so crazy here.

Anyone willing to summarize what has been going on for the last 3 or 4 weeks? Just kidding. I will try and go back and read and read and read some more. I see that Mark is still up to his old tricks!!

I, too, am worried about the heat. I physically get sick from heat. I will not let that get me down. I have to enjoy this cruise!!
Neck cooler? What in the world is that???

IMHO those neck thingies don't work worth squat :( I just figure on melting on the deck with the occasional dip in the pool to get the body temp back down under 100 degrees ;) I'll be living on sunscreen (figure a bottle a day ought to work :teeth: ) and wearing the biggest floppiest hat I can find (skin cancer runs in the family :( ).

My biggest concern is "Aunty Brat" (Laura) - with the recent removal of the lymph nodes under her right arm she has to keep that arm from getting scratched, poked, bitten (i.e. mosquitos), sunburned, etc. That will prove to be a challenge I'm sure.

Coming from Florida, we may have a bit of an edge when it comes to dealing with the heat. Not a huge edge, mind you, but a bit of one! :D

You know, they say a Mojito is a great way to deal with heat. :p

Ok, so I'll bite........

Jason, what's a Mojito?

For Laura ~ she could get the clothing that has the sunscreen already built in. I can't remember who makes it but maybe somebody else knows.

Anybody know what kind of smog factor there is? With the Molson Indy here all week the gas smell has been giving me migraines!

Have a great day everybody!

Mojito
Ingredients:
2-3 oz Light rum
Juice of 1 Lime (1 oz)
2 tsp Sugar
2-4 Mint sprigs
Soda water
Mixing instructions:
Lightly muddle the mint and sugar with a splash of soda water in a mixing glass until the sugar dissolve and you smell the mint. Squeeze the lime into the glass, add rum and shake with ice. Strain over cracked ice in a highball glass. Top with soda water, garnish with mint sprig and serve.

I suggest that all of you move to Mesa AZ, NOW!!! You will find out what hot is, then in 3 weeks you will find out what hot as hell is, when the day times get to 120 or so and the humidity is 60%. I lived there for 9 summers, I can't wait to get on the ship and enjoy the warm weather. My favorite way to beat the heat, float in the pool. I can do that for about 8 hours a day. And drink lots of water. If you are going to dink alchohol (Who, us?), alternate every other one with water, in addition to the extra water. Because alchohol is dehydrating.

Now I remember why that sounds familiar! I was watching a show on the Food Network where they showed this!

I'll have to try it next hot day! That is if we every get a hot day here!LOL

We are use to the heat because we are from New Orleans. Today the temp is going to be 95 with 100 % humidity.

Marsha I can just picture 2000 guests trying to cool off together in that itty bitty pool!

If you don't mind me asking how many points did you have and how long ago did you sell? Did you keep ANY points so that you could go to WDW?

Sold all 650 of them. And yes, all we ever used them for was cruising and it broke down like this: the VWL (150) points; then the VB (100), then HH (400). At first, it seemed like a good idea then points started to go up and I didn't realize what a hassle making a change could and would become for me.

What upset me was having to use DVC as the middleman to make any arrangements and be on hold for 30-45 minutes each time - then having to pay the extra $75 for substituting my Mom for my husband on a cruise that was 10 months away.
It became so hard to preplan anything and I'm such a control freak that I have to be able to have control of each situation -

I'm pretty wired right now because we are using a TA but can't make a change to our repo cruise reservation without that TA being the one who does it. Seems to me that will be remedied a lot sooner than I did with my DVC "challenge"!

With the money I recooped from selling the DVC properties, our family went on a Pilgrimage to Europe for two weeks and we will be going on Repo cruise next year - plus I got a new horse out of the deal. (Always count on my getting another horse whenever I have some extra $$$).

When my brother and his boyfriend were here for my sister's wedding--they made the BEST homemade mojitos!!! My mother does not usually drink--but she sure had a tough time holding her 2 year old grandson in her lap that night!!! One mojito for her and she stood up from her seat--forgetting little Sammy was in her lap--and down to the floor he went!! Thank God for the rug!!:p

Gassmandy,

Boy, mom's gonna kill you for that one! Even I know better than to talk about her drunken adventures!

Grumbo.............

Hate to break it to you, but dry heat or not.......... it's HOT. I lived in Denver for a few years, where the humidity is usually very low. I was working on the lawn one day in 95 degree heat, very low humidity, and passed out from heat stroke after working only about 45 minutes. When it's that dry, anything you sweat evaporates very quickly, so you don't realize how hot you're getting.

Also, I once flew into Phoenix during the summer (115 degrees) and it felt like I walked into a wall when I left any building. Even the scorpions were looking for shade!

Take it very easy and be sure to drink plenty of water (zinfandel is not good for you in the heat!).

I think I'll have a bottle of water strapped to me at all times while we are in the Panama Canal. Sure hope they keep the beverage station on deck 9 well stocked.
