Okay...for all those with Dkids who don't want to miss the beginning of school. I am here by asigning a written report on their trip thru the Panama Canal. For those in 1 thru 3rd grades a one page report with pictures taken either by them or their parents will be required. For those in 4th thru 6th at least three pages in cursive with pictures taken by them (if possible). For those in grades 7 thru 12... they won't be upset at missing the first few days of school so no report is required.

Mike unfortunately you don't count. Really sorry you are going to miss the cruise. Let Jazz and Grumbo know where you want the tiny glass of Zinfandel sent.

Oh if anyone really does a report please give it to their teachers when they return to school I do not grade reports.

But i agree with you...I will have my kids do some kind of report and pictures to share with the class.

Sorry you won't be able to make it Mike.

Luckily, school is not an issue yet. Kaleigh won't even turn 3 until the end of September next year.

First here is a link u will find VERY HelpFul..

http://www.allaboutacapulco.com/localbusinesses.htm

"Acapulco is great for the serious shopper. There are open air markets, ocean view malls, indoor malls and specialty shops of every shape and size. Acapulco's proximity to Taxco makes silver a serious commodity with many stores featuring the work of local artists. The Costera M. Aleman is home to the finer shops, but don't leave without looking for some bargains in the downtown area. The downtown area has many typical local businesses and a Sears store. The area also plays host such American favorites as a massive Wal-Mart, Sam's Club and Costco. There are also many specialty shops selling unique items, produced locally, for the home."

Note the part about Costco! 14 Days is a long time to have to go without.. Now u wont...

HAVE A GREAT DAY ...:sunny:

Hmmm No habla espanola senor?
DW only does English, Russian, Polish and Ukrainian :)
Going to start telling her that "Costco" is Spanish for sewage. :) Yep that should do it :) "Whatever you do, don't say "Costco" as they'll look at you like you've got two heads!!!"
Phew that was close.

I know next think you'll be telling me is that they're building one of the #*%)@#* places on Castaway Cay

Cheers,
Grumbo

I'm back from a week of mother/daughter bonding in the Poconos of Pennsylvania. We went & did everything - flea market, outlet shopping, saw the "Red Barons" win, bingo, movies, pool & ate too much! BACK ON THE DIET!

You are such a talkative group:chat: :chat: :chat: :chat:

No more vacations until the October Disney Cruise. Now I need to work, work, work.

Hope you all have a terrific weekend. Toodles:wave2: :earsgirl: JEANNE

Anybody remember where the post for the Panama Canal pin from the DIS shop is? I cannot find it? I think it was from Melinda or Lynn.

TIA!

Barbara

Barbara,

Sorry, it wasn't from me. I remember reading it though. Someone's husband was designing it, I believe. Maybe it was Melinda.

I remembering reading about the pin, I went to the DIS shop, but I didn't see anything there.

Hi All,
Just read a great article on how to do Disneyland area in a three day weekend. It is in the June issue of Sunset...a magazine distributed in the western United States. Besides the Disneyland article there are 20 classic California drives, for those of you planning on spending some time here. And to top it off, a great looking recipe for fish tostados. If you're interested the magazine website is sunset.com.

Sorry you won't be able to make it Mike...I'm betting you won't be the last of our group to bow out. 15 months is a long time, so many things can happen.

Forgot to add...the above mentioned article lists the Disneyland hotels, then mentions the surrounding properties. Disneyland isn't like WDW...there isn't the whole on-site thing...last time we went to Disneyland we stayed at the Candyland, very easy walk to the front gates, $70/night, clean rooms, nice pools and hot tubs, and substantial breakfast.

Thank you very much Andy for your search! I could not find it for the life of me at the DIS shop. I will look more later, going soon to see the new Harry Potter movie. Did not get to see it before our trip, too busy getting ready. :)

Thanks again, you are a gem!

Barbara

Hey Grumbo- An article printed just for you. I wonder was it written by you as well ??...Mark

"A Trip to Costco or a Root Canal?
I’m not sure which is worse.

This weekend, I went to Costco to pick up some things for the bar at the American Legion. Here are some impressions:

1. English? Does anyone speak it any more?

2. Family gatherings? What is with the people who make a trip to Costco an outing for the extended family? In some cases a half dozen people (with one cart) meander down the aisle, effectively blocking the way for anyone else. They often stop, of course in the center of the aisle, to hold some sort of family meeting. It is difficult to pass, as I don’t know how to say, “excuse me” in Hottentot or whatever language all the aunties and uncles were speaking. I assume that only one family member pays for a membership card, which accounts for these people shopping in packs.

3. Free-Range Children. Children are often left unattended to run up and down the aisles to do whatever tickles their fancy. Feel like bouncing a ball up and down the aisles? No problem. Help yourself to a new basketball from its box and have at it. These feral children are a special treat at the electronic keyboard display.

4. Free Food! Some people spend the morning going from free-sample station to free-sample station bulking up on whatever Costco is trying to get rid of. Don’t worry about what to do with that little paper rice pudding cup and plastic spoon if you’ve finished the pudding on the way to the next free sample station. Just leave your trash on one of the shelves. No one will notice.

6. Garment Plundering. Sure lady, pick up a sweatshirt, unfold it, hold it up to your blimp-like body with ****s like ‘55 Buick bumperettes, and when it doesn’t appear to fit (surprise, surprise), don’t bother re-folding it. Just toss it on a pile and unfold another. Repeat this process until you satisfy yourself that Costco does not stock circus tent sized sweatshirts.

7. Book Plundering. This lady must have studied under the sweatshirt lady. Pick up a book from one of the stacks, take a quick look, and if you don’t like it (maybe it didn’t contain enough pictures), don’t replace it. Just toss it.

8. Parking Lot Blockades. During your family outing to Costco (see above), be sure to spread out in the parking lot when strolling to and from the store at a snail’s pace, thereby ensuring that cars cannot pass your pack, herd, pride, pod, or whatever the hell you call it. It’s a great way to enjoy the outdoors. We’ll all just wait until you get to your destination.

I had a swell time."

ROTFLMAO!!!
I am tempted to show that to my wife but if I do she may realize I've been discussing how to hide the fact there are Costcos out side of the area and I'll be toast and then I'll be spending loads of time at that place :)

Truth be known I like Costco.
Thing is I can go in, look at all of the good stuff. You know - The computers, software, big screen tvs, DVD's, CD's, garden stuff, free samples, 40 chocolate bars for $10, and the book section.
I can go in, peruse, buy a hot dog and bottomless Coke for $1.99 and be out of that place in 15 minutes (Well to the cash register anyway). DW is still on the first table of sweat shirts or blouses!! Sheesh.
My incentive to NOT buy things there is the fact I'll be standing in line with one or two items while the "herds" of other folk have 3 shopping carts (Alot are corner store owners buying stuff to resell) and are always in line in front of me and I am now spending another half hour with the ice cream bars that I love, that are melted by the time I check out. Of course it is always time for the cashier's "break" just as I hit the register and now they have to count their money to make sure their float is right, and invariably we may as well change the register tape while we're at it.

Other than that Costco is a great place and can't wait to hit the one in San Pedro, Acapulco, Curacao and Castaway cay

Cheers,
Grumbo ;)

I love CostCo...free lunch of snack foods and cheap books. My DH and DS refuse to eat the samples though...much better if I have to cook something once we get home.

I really have to find a Costco. There has to be one somewhere nearby. They sound like such fun. Of course DH would be agreeing with Grumbo. Fifteen minutes tops.
I am going to be making an experiment I finally found out how to do smilies, I think. So I will be doing them at the end.
Talk to you all tomorrow. Estelle

The pin is just a personalized DIS pin. She will make it say anything you want (with in reason, I'm sure). Just go to Pins and Personalized. (I hope).

I am laughing about the Costco comments. Although I no longer belong, we always had the Price Club Rule (Costco's old name): You had to spend at least 100 dollars per trip or your membership would be revoked!

Mark - you have it to a T. And many of those same shoppers frequent all department stores.

Tomorrow is gonna be a great day, enjoy it, everyone.

I just received this photo from Grumbo and he asked if I could post it here on the thread.

Has anyone seen this new building, near the dock, at Castaway Cay?
