August 20, 2005 - L.A. to Port Canaveral - Eastbound Repo Cruise - The SHIP OF FOOLS Part 2

We're going to fly out on the Sunday (That is as long as we don't have any hurricanes to contend with). Probably go around DTD. Doubt if we'll bother with a park but who knows. We still have hoppers left.
We're still going to go to Vegas BUT it may be cheaper to fly into LAX, drive 4 hours to Vegas, stay there, and then back. The flight is cheaper to LAX than Vegas, plus the vehicle rental is a few hundred dollars cheaper. With 5 of us flying it would be about $800 cheaper in total.
Lots of time left though so waiting.

Cheers,
Grumbo

My father was just over and we were talking about the Panama cruise. He was asking me if we all realized how "hot" we are going to be when cruising. (he is going too with us along with my mom) and he was telling me that his friend was on a panama cruise last summer in august and it was very very hot!! I told him, "oh yeah, we know and that is why we are having a nudity deck party when we go thru the Panama!!" LOL!!!! he thought for a minute i was serious and then said, "Disney wouldn't do such a thing!!!" I said, "Disney?? no, it is JGE party compliments by Grumbo and Jazzman!!!" He didn't know if i was kidding or not!! I just love to kid around!!! LOL!!!!:hyper:

I'd stay the extra day too. In fact I'm not planning on leaving until that Monday. Since that's Labor Day, I figure we get an extra day of vacation without having to take the extra time off from work.;)

Same here - we plan to fly home Monday 09/05 - we figure on going to KSC on Saturday when we disembark the ship, and we'll do Discovery Cove on Sunday - don't want to do the theme parks because that'll be too much activity, and after relaxing 2 weeks on a ship we don't want to all of a sudden go "commando style." :)

I must go to Epcot on Saturday when we get in. By then Soarin' will be there. That's one of my favorite rides at DCA. We'll either fly late Saturday night or early Sunday. I need a day or so to get all the laundry done, go through mail, etc. before it's back to work.

I'd like to fly into SNA (Santa Ana), but I think LAX will be much cheaper. We'll see what the family wants to do because they have to fly home from there.

12:15 may be ok for a domestic flight (ok, mine is at 12:18 in three weeks) and I do believe it is do-able, but what if it takes us even a couple hours more to get back or more time to clear customs, not to mention the dreaded hurricanes, I'd be safe and schedule the flight the next day.

Bob, good luck with Jeanne. I hope they are wrong with this one. We are going to be in Oviedo next Friday night then "hopefully" sailing out of Port Canaveral on Saturday. Don't really want to change the plans at this point, but we'll do what we've got to do. Anyway, Jeanne looks to me like she's just going in circles and doesn't know what to do (though the projections have her going by Castaway Cay again).

I don't mind flying into LAX. I'm hoping that I might get Heather Locklear to pat me down!:hyper: :hyper:

Would you settle for Grumbo or Jazzman dressed like Heather Locklear, Grumbo has the wigs, Jazzman has the legs.

Here's Grumbo doing his best Heather Locklear impersonation. It's amazing, it's like she's looking in a mirror.

I hate LAX. It's ugly, crowded, and dated. Unfortunately, it's usually cheaper. Also, don't discount how long you will sit in traffic at any time of the day getting anywhere in So. CA.

Sorry to all of the Californians who have been offended by my less-than-glowing opinion of their homeland.:sunny:

If I had a choice I would fly into Ontario rather than LAX. Especially for those folks talking about flying in and then driving to Vegas. Ontario is closer and much easier to get in and out of. And at LAX you are more likely to get patted down by the winner of a beat with an ugly & stupid stick contest than Ms. Locklear...

Actually almost any other airport in So Cal is better than LAX...

Total (USD) $444.30
now.

Renee-check all the different flight times...I noticed (at least from Denver) that the 7:20 am and the 3:40 pm flights were cheaper than the other flights, and there were three pricing tiers for the same day and airport.

Hi everyone

Just thought I'd drop in and defend LAX and Los Angeles. I for one love LAX. Not just the TV show, but I do like that too. I've even driven through LAX "just cause" on many occasions:moped: . I Love L A, :cheer2: all the cars, the traffic :scared1: , the people, the weather, the sites, the noise, The Lakers, the music, the fact that it takes forever to get from one place to the next :scared: . It gives you more chance to hear the music and see the people. And yes there is traffic, :crowded: I sit in it 2 hours daily on my way to Anaheim :earsgirl: and back. But that gives me a chance to sing along to the music :goodvibes in my car or listen to old times radio programs on tape. I wouldn't live any place else. I hope you guys enjoy are fair city. :thewave:

We have had a situation in our family as of late as well, My uncle is leaving for Iraq on Wednesday. My aunt is devastated. He just turned 50 on the 6th of this month and was told he was leaving on the 7th. He's an Army reserve. Has been for over 20 years and has never gone out of the country. So this has been difficult. We are trying to talk my aunt into going with us on our cruise and WDW trip this November. She really needs to get away.

Bob, Good Luck with Jeanne.

Well nite everyone,

Sooz :flower:

I hope hurricane JEANNE behaves herself. Since our Disney Cruise is leaving October 23rd.

After reading the board the other day, I started looking at airfare. I could not believe we are flying from Philadelphia to LAX for $89.10 each (including tax) on Frontier Airlines. We are flying out Wednesday night & will have two whole days in Disneyland before the cruise

:boat:

Hope you all have a great weekend. Off to food shop, then visit Mom in hospital, etc. Tomorrow is my first day with "the cowboy". Toodles:wave2: :earsgirl: JEANNE

I think we're going to stick with our original plan -- fly out of Phila on Friday to Las Vegas and rent a car. Drive to L.A. on Monday and stay in Anaheim and then the cruise on Saturday.

Although Grumbo has given me some really good pointers about Las Vegas and one-way car rentals -- so we are still finalizing plans. If it costs too much to have a one-way car rental, we may do what Grumbo is doing and fly into L.A. and just drive back to Las Vegas.

Hard to believe we have to think of all these details so far in advance -- especially since I just got back from the "10-day" cruise on the Magic 8/28. Time sure flies when you're having fun planning......:p

FORGOT TO ASK.....

Can someone give me some info about Frontier Airlines? Has anyone ever used them and how do they compare to U.S. Air, Southwest, etc?

Thanks.

Good idea. I did just check the day before like the OP suggested and the cheap rate is there. Humm, maybe I can talk DH into going out Wednesday night instead of Thursday night and have 2 full days instead of 1. That's a thought that I'll have to check on tonight.:teeth:

I asked this question on the transportation board and got two responses that were very favorable for Frontier. I plan on flying with them either Aug. 17 or Aug. 18, depending on what DH says about the extra day.

Well i got a call from my mom this morning and she asked me about the nudity deck party business that i was telling my dad yesterday...She told me to stop teasing my dad about it since he seems to beleive it. He know that the other cruise lines has "topless Deck" and can't beleive that Disney would have it too. I told mom "what makes you think i am kidding??" and she said, "Because i know Disney, and Disney would not have it like that on a family ship" and i said, "they are making an exception for the Panama Cruise guests because we will be on it for 2 weeks and it is HOT and that Grumbo and Jazzman pushed for it and the request was granted!!!" She was voiceless!!!

AHH, I had to give in and told her the joke on her!!!! It was fun while it lasted!!!
