August 1st 2009 - Eastern 8/1/2009 The Eastern Caribbean Castaways

Dear Maria,

I'm planning to do both, too! The pillowcases are for my kids, the mats will be for myself and the other adults on the cruise! I haven't investigated fabric markers yet, but I plan to. Also, I _think_ that the quality of the pillowcase can also have an effect. My kids made some "color in" pillowcases with their grandmother 2 summers ago. (Sold in kits at AC Moore/Michael's crafts.) The cases are lousy quality and are pilling like mad. The marker is still visible, but it has faded over time. The woman on the boards with the killer embroidery machine might be a good person to ask. On the most popular auction site, her username is "gradysmommy." I forget her username here on dis. She posts in the FE forum; I'll try to find it.

Wow! Just saw her pillowcases. They are much nice than my 2 250-thread ct. turquoise ones from Target. Too bad I already washed them! Oh, well... I may have to order from her. I'd love to have an embroidery machine like that!!!

Well its another Saturday and another week closer to the cruise:cool1:

Is it me or is time going quicker

Its nearly report time at school and I have started writing them this morning.

We have one more week until our half term holiday (1 week)

Then when we get back its 7 weeks:banana:

I really can't beleive it

School finishes on July 17th and we fly to the states the next day.

Hope everyone is ok

:grouphug:

Alright, I have counted 63 people who are going to be part of our own private "Podcast Cruise". I was thinking, since there are so many people maybe one of the days at sea we can all get together in one of the clubs, during the slow part of the day, and listen to the most recent podcast together. And if it is late enough maybe have a "mojito" in memory of Bob Varley.

Any takers?

Dave

This is a weekly podcast that is put on by the owners of Dreams Unlimited and creators of the DISboards. On the homepage of the Boards you will see a link to the Weekly podcast called DIS Unplugged. They just got back from a DIS Unplugged 4-day pod cruise and the live show is available. There were about 300 people who signed up and went on the four day cruise. Kim and I listen to the weekly show.

Bob (Bawb) Varley was one of the crew and he died one year ago, which hit the team and the listeners pretty hard. He was from Boston and had a deep New England accent. On some of the signatures you will see an electric cart with angels wings, that is in memory of Bob, who drove around on an electric cart with a video camara attached (he called it the Khat Cam)

I suggest you also listen to the latest show from the Disney Wonder and also the "Best of Bob" show, it is really funny.

I've been looking at some of "gradysmommy"'s stuff there! I didn't know that she was a DISer - now I'm more likely to buy one of her FEs. They are a titch pricey but I was thinking of how it could be used at home too - as a place for mail or something....

Dear Barbara,

I noticed your other post about maybe coming in a day early. Most of my family is doing that too. FWIW, when we did our first 4 day cruise, we took the DCL bus to port, and I honestly didn't enjoy it very much. I plan to take the DCL bus back from port to MCO, but I've asked our TA to book us a van from MCO down to port. You _might_ want to look at that. For a larger group, it can be much less expensive than DCL's bus, and you might have less waiting around.

As for "gradysmommy," her username here seems to be 'luvtheears'. I believe that her name is Tiffany. I'm debating on getting some of her pillowcases. There is a good chance of that. I didn't get my FE from her, but I did get it from another Diser who made a totally cute Chip/Dale FE. I saw it posted here first, and then was lucky enough to notice it on the other site.

I've GOT to get to bed! Oh, maybe this isn't yet reasonable, but I'd love to have a running post of FE exchangers. I'm planning on giving some personalized items, and it would be great if I could make a start. I totally understand if this is unreasonable, but I figured I'd ask.

Night night

I'm getting really excited for this cruise, the closer it gets:banana:

Went shopping with DM yesterday for cruise attire (she's coming on the cruise as well). DH thinks we're both crazy - he's a "let me check to see what I need" the day before kind of guy:rotfl2:

I'm currently unable to book a reservation for "High Tea" or Brunch. The website reservations state that there are no reservations currently available. (I can, and did, book dinner at Palo!)

Does this mean that High Tea has been booked solid already?? It can't mean that, can it? My wife would be very disappointed!

We went shopping yesterday and Saturday, too. My husband usually shares the attitude of yours, but the whole family went. Mostly we bought dress clothes for the boys. Typically they don't have need for slacks, jackets, and ties! Then we all watched the Wonder set sail, live on the Port Canaveral webcam. I'm quite excited, too!

I just went on the reservation site and it looks like there are no reservations for High Tea and the brunch left. Maybe when you board the ship, you can check at the Palo reservation area. There may be a chance that someone's cancelled and there could be an opening. I really hope it works out for you!! Perhaps someone else has a suggestion.

Dear Daniel,

My understanding is that Palo "holds back" 50% of their reservations until embarkation. If you are at the Port early, you may be able to make a reservation. I'm kinda in the same boat. Most of my party are CC members, but we have one new person, and we are having trouble adding her to our current brunch reservations.

The dinner times are really going fast too! I just booked for myself and DH, DS and her hubby, and my parents. We're all going separately though. Just one night eating just with our spouses! Our times are on the same night but staggered.

Whew! Thanks for this info!

Yes - DCL does hold back Palo seats so people can book on board - but get there early.

Actually I have been very surprised at how long there was availability - I dont think our cruise is full by a long shot. I checked last week and there were still Palo seats and also spa treatments in the villas on sea days - normally these go within minutes of booking opening.

Maybe, Helen. However, this weekend I tried to book, just to test how full it was. My attempts to book sailing for 2 adults and 2 kids led me only to a deluxe family stateroom. No other cabin option was available to me. So, I think the cruise is getting pretty full, but when I look at the cost for the room offered to me - yikes! :scared1:

I have a question for my fellow cruisers. Who listens to the weekly DIS Unplugged Podcast? When I started on the boards I used the homepage as the conduit to go to the forums I enjoyed posting on and reading. Then I listened to the podcast and was hooked. Now a week doesn't go by when I don't listen to Pete, John, Kevin, Corey, Julie, Walter, Teresa, and Kathy. In fact i have downloaded the previous podcasts onto my I-Pod and am catching up on the past episodes.

So are we the only ones or are there others out there?

Dave
