August 18, 2010...Can't wait for the MAGICal Mediterranean!!!

I do like the party thing, the issue is space cramming in 30 people in to a space that is too small is not party - it's steam bath:rotfl:

We're in 24 a-d going and 26 a-d returning

Mindy, I've been either in your room on 8102 once. We had a TON of people in there, you can easily fit 30 on the balcony alone!!! PARTY AT MINDYS!!!!!:rotfl2::rotfl2::cool1::cool1::dance3::dance3:

It's not that you can pack more. They keep everything organized. Especially undies and socks. They also help stop things from getting wrinkled. My favourite are the ones for dress shirts. You fold them on a board and place them in a packing sleeve. Shirts stay unwrinkled. We used them when we were in Asia. They truly are amazing!!!

I may have to try some just to see; esp if they prevent wrinkles. I am already a very organized packer and I immed unpack and organize everything
upon reaching destination. I even make a list of everything I pack so I make sure to re-pack everything when leaving. I saw a set from Rick Steves that had a large, medium, small and also some from Eagle Creek. Does anyone have a rec for brand?

Thanks:wizard:

Hi

Well not a good day today!!! Took DD to tennis and then up to the school to help set up for the summer fayre tomorrow. DD was running around the playground and field with her friends and tripped up. Unusually, she cried and cried, obviously hurt her knee and arm. I took her to the A&E and she has broken her arm!!!!:sad2:

It is a greenstick fracture about an inch up from her wrist, on her radius and they have put a cast on it and she has to go to the fracture clinic on 23rd July, when they will reassess and may put a fibreglass cast on it.

Bad news is that she starts her summer holidays from school next week and won't be able to go to holiday club (summer camp), as it is sports related!! Now I will probably have to pay for private care at great expense for the three days that I work. No swimming, soft play etc. etc. It is their sports day on Monday and she so wanted to be in the hopping race :) We had so much planned. :sad1:

The cast should be on for 6 weeks, which means it is due off the weekend after we sail:eek: I am hoping that they may take it off slightly earlier before we go, she will be gutted not to go on the Mickey slide and in the pool.

I just can't believe this happened today and so easily too. Has anyone got experience of this kind of thing in kids? I feel totally drained and could have cried myself when they said it was broken, I just feel so sorry for her, she still doesn't really understand the limititations that it will have for her summer break and she was so brave.

It seem lots has been going on on the boards, I still haven't caught up with everything, but I had a look at the Journal page, absolutely beautifully done.

I will add you all to the FE list, I agree that we should close on 1st August. I will use room numbers you have at the moment. If anyone upgrades, then let us know at the dis meet and just in case anyone doesn't make it there, I will put a note on our cabin door, and you can check there for a current list.

I don't know if you would rather have a day to 'drop off'. but feel personally perhaps that as it is such a port intensive cruise, things may not go to plan and people shouldn't be pressured to have to do something on a particular day, so maybe we should just leave it for you to deliver when you wish. Let me know your thoughts - I realise this may mean on sea days we have lots of things, but anyone who had a port day may find it a bit stressful to fit in and this should be a holiday after all.

Irene, please do PM me. We have done all the ports before, except Tunisia and Malta. Malta will be easy, it is only Tunisia that I think is 'different' from the rest of the stops. But reading on the boards it would appear that it is 150 euros for a taxi for the day. It is a very popular tourist destination for us in the UK.

I do agree though that some ports are very easy to do on the train, we have been to both Rome and Pisa on the train before and also got the train in Naples, Although I wouldn't recommend the walk to Naples train station, it isn't a good one (along a very busy dirty road).

Reading how organised you all are, I am a little worried, I usually pack the night before! and never get around to putting an itinerary together, I used to BC (before child), but now it all just seems to get taken over by other things! Last time we went I even forgot the guide books!!

I will do some catching up and update the FE list. Let me know if I have forgotten anyone.

Oh my goodness! Your POOR daughter! I hope she can have her cast on and then off rather quicklyl I'm not sure what a greenstick fracture is, but it doesn't sound good! Best of luck to her...and you in arranging day care for her. What a bummer!

UUgghh - failed to finish booking the hotel the other night..... price has gone up and I cannot complete the transaction .... I have tried 4 different browsers.... If I use bookings.com - it says i need to book a triple. which appears to be the same as the QUeen + sofa for $35 less..... Off to seek another hotel option... not keen on 180 for one night.

K8T - hate to hear about your daughter... how frustrating for you and her.

Hi Kate: So sorry to hear about your daughter ... hopefully all will be well by the cruise. Take care, just think of the fun your family will have once you reach the Magic.

Kate,

Sorry to hear about DD. I broke my wrist when I was 5 and I know that I just didn't get what was going on. Luckily my kids haven't broken any bones yet. DD sprained her hand real bad once, but that was the extent. What awful luck. I know how it is to try and find child care for when you work. Give DD our good wishes that it heals quickly.

Aren't you essentially across the hall from me?

It won't be right after...I have a couples choice spa appt at 2:goodvibes

Mindy who says you need to be there... We can just balcony hop over from my cabin, just leave the balcony door unlocked!!!!!!:rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2:

Kate - sorry about your DD, my DD broke her wrist before our Mexican in 2005. She was due to get the cast off right before we sailed, but unfortunately for her and us, it wasn't all the way healed yet and she needed to wear a splint for a few more weeks. So, she couldn't play in any of the pools onboard, she was 7 at the time. She wasn't happy about not being able to swim, but with the cast off she could go in the ocean. We just took the splint off then, the doctor and I just didn't want anyone jumping on it or having it get hurt on the slide. If it's not completely healed by sailing, you might want to go that route ask them to take the cast off and put on a removable splint.

It sounds like she "FOOSH'ed". Fell On OutStretched Hand. There are a few different options that she could have as long as healing goes well. They'll probably be able to tell more once some swelling goes down and they reevaluate her on the 23rd. What does she have on now? A splint wrapped with an Ace bandage?

I had the same fracture when I was 9. It was after swimming season was over, though...:sad2::sad1:

Hope she's doing ok...

kim

Goodness - It's been busy on here the last couple of days:-) K8, your poor daughter, hope it heals quickly x

Kate: So sorry about your daughter! Thankfully, at that age, they heal pretty fast and she will be good as new in no time. My son has been very accident prone over the years and it does always seem to come at a bad time
for us too. He just got a new skateboard yesterday and I don't even want him to use it for fear of a broken bone or sprain! Hope you get good news at the next assessment.

Erin: You're not going to be at the Novotel BC with us after all - darn!
See you on the ship. Hope you have found a good hotel that you like.

Mindy: ha-ha, I agree with Lori, who says you need to be there:laughing:

Vicky29: just realized after looking at the FE list that you are also our neighbor on the ship, we are 2539 and Erin's family is 2537!

Have a good day all:wizard:
