August 18, 2010...Can't wait for the MAGICal Mediterranean!!!

I just thought that I'd pop by to say hello. My family and I will be on the same cruise. I'll be travelling with DH, DD, my parents, my sister's family and family friends. All together, we'll be a group of 15.

It's my 2nd Disney cruise (4 night Wonder in 2008) but we have all cruised with different cruise lines in the past.

:welcome:

Glad you found us! Did you all just book?

kim

Unfortunately, this is correct. The rule is that the salon is for only 18 and over. There is no flexibility here. DCL is VERY strict with their adult only areas.

I thought I saw a thread around and about that occasionally there were on-board "specials" that would be a mom-and-me sort of thing aimed at the teen/under 18 set?

Hi,

Welcome..I'm glad you found us!! I'll add you to the roll call on page 3. How old is your DD?

She's 6!
My DH and I figured that at almost 7 she'd be old enough to at least understand and maybe even slightly appreciate the european sites. How wrong we were, I've been showing her books of some of the places we'll see (most notably Rome). She's really interested but she doesn't want to see any old broken buildings. She doesn't understand why they won't just repair the Coliseum and the other ruins!

So, we're rethinking our shore excursions! :confused3

There are plenty of family tyoe excursions: Valetta (Malta) for kids, Bardo Museum for Families(Tunis), Sorrento & Amalfi Coast with Pizza Making for kids, Perfumers Apprentice (France), Tortoise Protection Center (Corsica)....

They don't have a Coliseum repair program, yet. ;)

I believe that's only for nails. On our Aug cruise last year, one family we met wanted to get their daughters hair done for formal night and were denied access to the salon for their girls, they were 13 and 10. The mom commented that the salon was empty, but was turning away passengers more than willing to pay, due to them being kids. The girls did get their nails done though.

That is why the spa is in the adults only area....they're pretty strict about that...they should probably add a children's spa type place....maybe there will be one on the Dream?

There is a rumor there will be a one, like they have at MK and DTD. It's for little kids though not teens.......

My DD turns 7 at the end of next month, so they'll be close in age! I started talking about the volcano that destroyed a city and got a great reaction, so I went from there! She's almost morbidly interested....We also got her to watch Rick Steves episodes to give her an idea of what to expect. Now she points out naked statues to us when we see pics of them. Hmmmm....maybe don't take a page from my playbook! :rotfl::rotfl:
Anywho, we're taking her to Rome, but that's the only long structured day. I might try to do some sort of game to make it interesting. I'm going to make up a scrapbook, and I might put in pics of sights we're going to see, and do a "scavenger hunt" of sorts....with as of yet undecided "prize".

I know. My son, who will be eleven, was like, how many churches are we going in?

That is why he is getting a new DS for his birthday to help with the boredom.

Do you have any of Rick Steves' books? I am thinking of downloading a few on my Kindle to carry with on the trip.

Thanks.

We have his "Italy" guidebook. It is nicely done, and will come in very handy, I think. Great discussions on Rome, Naples, Cinque Terre... all the places we are going to visit. Now we are getting excited about this trip.:cheer2:

Now that I've paid off my cruise, the OBSESSION starts with looking for my room number. We're booked in a cat 4 GTY, and I just KNOW our room will be right next to the captains... 8000 anyone?????? I actually wouldn't mind that, because then we'd definitely have a clear veranda. There are 6 cat 4's with solid white ones. We had it once and weren't fans..... The good news is that if I get a solid white one, I'll be REALLY close to Mindy.... I might try to "balcony hop" into her cabin!!!!

Welcome :goodvibes. That is wonderful that you are traveling with such a big group. On my previous cruises we have gone with my parents and brother and wife but they just couldn't make such a big trip.

I am acutally going to Toronto tomorrow for a friends wedding.
