August 18, 2010...Can't wait for the MAGICal Mediterranean!!!

thanks...I thought I was a gonner this morning...had a 45 minute coughing spell...I managed to get on about 7:15 and got the excursions booked. DH is talking to the concierge as we speak about Palo. We actually couldn't get into a session of one of the excursions, which tells me that the system wasn't down for everyone. I'll keep you update when everything is finalized.

Feel better. Wow I can't believe that you couldn't get into an excursion session. Which one? You would think at this point everything would be open.

The concierge said she thinks they are still open...I would just prefer not to have the kids get up super early every day, so I wanted the afternoon tour. Concierge thinks that it's closed until the morning tour gets full. She put us on the waiting list and will switch us if she can....but otherwise we got everything we wanted.

Congrats on getting everything booked. Hope you feel better :goodvibes

Hi everyone... I'm getting a little wistful reading the 4/24 thread. They're all starting to head out, if not already there.... Luckily it looks like everyone is able to get flights in to Barcelona. It makes me want our cruise to be starting on Sat!!!!!!!

Hi Mindy, did you find out the start times of the excursions ahead of time or just when you went to book. Disney should give us this info to help us with scheduling.

were you able to get your palo ressie? we are traveling with a family that was able to book our palo brunch for the first sea day.

It has been said That good things come to those that wait! You don't want to go on the first cruise when things may not be all worked out with vendors and excursion issues....Since ours is one of the last ones they should have all issues that can come up ironed out and we can also get pointers from all those who have sailed before us and learn from their mistakes or good fortune...I can't believe it's under 4 months.....

Ellen,

YOu can only see the times when you go to book them. I got the Palo dinner, I got brunch on our first day at sea and tea on our last.

I think I'm going to drag Darren to tea on the first sea day and hit brunch on the last. We were underwhelmed with brunch in Aug, so by doing it last it gives us a chance to cancel if we're too stuffed by then!!!!!

I hope that you feel better soon! I've had pneumonia before, I don't miss the extra long coughing fits!

You must be relieved to have all your port excursions booked.

My date is the 20th of May. I was going to be lazy and book the 20th in the morning but after reading your post about some excursions being already full, I think that I'll just stay up and start trying to book at midnight.

I pretty much have all my excursions decided but maybe I should have a plan B just in case.

Bleck, the stress! It's like trying to get Le Cellier reservations during free dinning.

Back from OH with a few travel tips:

1. The Purex 3-in-1 sheets seemed to work well. Wasn't too pleased that I had to do laundry at a hotel, but that's a different story entirely.

2. Used one of the new suitcases, and now I get to return it (thank god I got it at REI....). It had/has straps that you can fasten around the front. Now, one is missing and the seam it was attached into is frayed and open. And.....Delta does not cover this sort of damage (I did get a $25 voucher). Perhaps keep this in mind if you look to get some new luggage for the trip. I now get to look for another one, a task I'd thought was completed.

Anywho, after working yesterday, I'm spending today catching up on everything else. I was only gone for 5 days....how did so much stuff build up?

Well, I went to the library recently and checked out the Passporter's Field Guide to the Disney Cruise Line. :) It is the fifth edition from 2007, but it has so much good stuff in it, that I have ordered the new edition, which is coming out in May. Also, I bought a fun book called Mediterranean Summer, written by a chef who worked on a yacht calling on some of the same ports we will go to. The book starts with a brief visit to the Amalfi coast... Any other books that you would recommend that relate to Mediterranean cruises or cruise ships in general (I read a book called Cruise Confidential that was interesting).

Hey I have that addition from when I went on my last cruise...there's a little on the med cruise, but they wrote it before they went so alot was supposition. Since there hasn't been med cruises since, there wasn't a lot for them to add to the new addition, so I didn't bother ordering it. I knew it would come out too late to help me out. I think our best advice will come from the cruisers who go before us.

I have that Passporter as well. DH peruses thru it occasionally. He's slower to obsess about details, but he's paying attention to what I find!

Have you all been following the blogs/trip reports?

Yes and I have been following Magic in the Mediterrannean on Facebook. I will have to look up some books while we are at the library tomorrow.

Hi all. Hope everyone is doing well.

Mindy- I hope you are all recuperated. The weather today certainly isn't the best.

Yes it is very exciting following the blogs from the transatlantic and now The Magic has started it's first med voyage. It is so hard to believe. It certainly makes it feel like our trip will be here before we know it.:cool1:

I think we finally decided on a hotel for pre-cruise. We are goung to stay at the Royal Ramblas, I think. How are people getting to their pre-cruise hotel? Taxis, car service or shuttle. DH still is in the mind set that we have all the time in the world and we don't have to think about the small details. On that note forgive me if this has been discussed before, but has anything been set for a dismeet upon boarding.

Enjoy your weekends!

Susan, we're probably taking a taxi from the airport or arranging a shuttle. We arrive Tues night from Paris. I think I'm doing a private car in Paris though. We'll be at the Le Meriden or Rivoli Ramblas. The Rivoli is cheaper but pictures I've seen make it look like a run down motel. So I'm hoping some good reviews come back from earlier cruises or we'll stay at Le Meriden.

We haven't really done transfers yet...probably a taxi...our hotel is closer to the marina area, but it's hard to tell really how far anything is from anything else.

I wanted to stay at the Le Meridien but I didn't think they could fit 3 in aroom and I didn't want to get 2 rooms. I also got a quote to stay there through Disney and it was like $718 :scared1: but that did include transfers. I wanted to stay near Las Ramblas so I looked into the Royal Ramblas after reading many people on disboards had made reservations there it also had nice reivews on tripadvisor so hopefully it is good. One review mentioned a pre cruise package but they didn't seem to have any rooms available for that deal for our dates when I went directly to their web site
