August 18, 2010...Can't wait for the MAGICal Mediterranean!!!

That person would be me:) My business has been REALLY busy (good in these times I KNOW)...but haven't been on the boards as much as I would like! I will post the info to the front right now:)

much easier to find now....hopefully this board starts getting more activity. My DH says the cruise is completely sold out of cat 01-04. I was hoping that in these times it might get discounted but apparently it's one of the more popular sailings of the summer...I guess the timing fits in well with camp endings and before school starts.

500 days and counting.

We can't keep our thread in the active section because it's died...LOL
With the amount of people supposedly on this cruise, one would think more would have joined the board by now....cruises after ours have more activity....what are we to do? Our busy lives have silenced the DIS board.

Happy Friday!!!!! Everyone. We are having some awseome weather this weekend in NY so get out and enjoy. :cool1:

We also have had great weather! I've gotten some painting done inside the house, DH has been doing yardwork, and I've been running in anticipation of a 10k race tomorrow am. I think I'm nuts, but I'm probably throwing my hat in the ring for the DIS's WDW marathon team next January (i'd do the 1/2 marathon). We'll see how tomorrow goes...

I think our cruise is too far into the future for most people to think about it and get involved. I keep thinking I have over a year to worry about planning so I haven't done any research yet. all I'm thinking about is september when airfare becomes available and that's still 4 months away.

the weather in NY is supposed to be in the 80's this weekend. I'm figuring to see a lot of people on the beach but the water temp will still be in the 50's.

good weekend everyone,
ellen

I've also been paying more attention to the news that the Wonder is moving to the west coast to make room for the Dream. I'm already thinking about spring break 2011 on the Dream.

I've been thinking a lot about it, and have been steadily chipping away at the balance (will be paid off by the end of the year), but I think my husband will go apoplectic if I were to talk about it as much as I think about it! I've done some research/reading, but what I really want to know is what the excursions will be! I know we can't book them forever from now, but it would give more to dream about....

And by the way, I finally got my website updated with the Disneyland pics. If you want a glimpse of West-Coast nirvana, go to this link:

I've got the pre-and post hotel booked, but I think I'll be waiting for airfare until January...

Hi Kim,

what hotel have you booked?

we will be flying out the 17th, arriving the morning of the 18th. we'll try to do something in barcelona on the 18th but will have to deal with jetlag. might spend an extra day in barcelona when cruise is over depending on flights out and if we want the extra day before heading home.

we tend to book excursions on our own but will see what disney has to offer.

when we did the disney repo cruise in 2007 we did a combination of both. in barcelona we did a great bike tour excursion on our own and are thinking about it again. the company is called fat tire bike tours and it was a great way to see the city. it was the only way my DD was willing to see the sites. we had an american guide and he was very knowledgeable and entertaining.

there's also a fountain in barcelona....forgetting the name...it was featured in one of the cheetah girls' movies. we were supposed to see it but jet lag got the better of us.

Hey Kim,

forgot to mention. we'll be in your neck of the woods this august. we are going to washington and oregon to visit mt. rainier, mt. st. helens and crater lake national park.

we fly into seattle for a couple of days then on to mt. rainier for about 3 days and mt. st. helens for a couple of days then drive down to crater for a couple of days then drive back up to seattle and fly home.

have you been to any of these? any recommendations or tips would be appreciated.

thanks, ellen

See post #200 on page 14 for my hotel saga! MUCH cheaper to do it myself!!!! I've booked 2 days before at Le Meridian on Las Ramblas, anticipating arriving in Barcelona the 16th, and one day after to relax a bit. The bike tour looks awesome! I saw a few listed, but will have to look up the fat tire one! The more outdoors stuff the better!

Mt. Rainier was awesome!! We were there in January and went snowshoeing. We stayed at one of these cabins: http://**********bearslodge.net/
It was nice, but pricey. However, to get anything near-by and not yucky, all the prices were about the same.
I've been to Mt. St. Helens once about 13 years ago for a day trip, and it was amazing. My husband tried both Mt. St. Helens and Crater Lake last month when DD and I went to Disneyland and got snowed out (see website I'd listed for pics..). So we have no advice on those.
Seattle is an absolutely fabulous city! If heights don't bother you, the view from the Space Needle is incredible on a clear day, but make sure to make reservations on-line prior to going as the line is looonnngggg to buy tickets there.

When in August will you be here?

k

Hi Kim, no problem on the website...i'll check it out. right now we are thinking of staying in packwood which is in the middle of mt. rainier and mt. st. helens.

we fly out on aug 22 and leave seattle sept 1st on a redeye.

Nice! You're going to have awesome weather!

I googled Packwood and it looks like a great location! Are you all going to stay at one of the cabins they have links to?

k

i do have a reservation for one of the cabins at mountain view lodge if that's the place you are referring to. we figure that if we stay in the middle of the two parks we can be flexible in terms of shifting from one to the other and not have to move.

we love visiting the national parks in the west. they are so much better than the ones on the east coast. this will be our first ones in washington and oregon.

We booked this cruise while back on the Magic in November. It is myself, DH and DD10 at time of sailing. As I said we are booked. It is our plan to go but so much can happen between now and then. On the one hand it seems so far away but on the other there is so much to plan. I have done no planning yet. We have a couple of trips to get through first, which is great. But it makes it harder to focus on a trip for summer 2010. We are going to DL for the first time this summer and going on the Magic in October for a Western with my parents and brother and his wife. When I heard the Magic was going back to the Med in 2010 I told my DH I wanted to go. We had been wanting to get to Europe and figured this was the best way to bring out daughter. It should be an amazing trip and I hope we get to go. :yay:

We were on the 11/1 (otherwise known as New Jersey Teacher's convention cruise). That is the one we are sailing again on this year.
