August 17, 2012 Magic in NYC!

We are platinum, but haven't booked a thing yet. I haven't taken my friend & her son off the reservation as of yet (hoping that we talk Dh into joing us & not wanting to "lose" the spot) so since I am not paid in full, I can't book yet. When does bookeing open for Gold? (The day before this is my "target date" to pay in full, so I can beat the "Gold crowd" ;)

PS- We were on the 4/14 Fantasy (Western) & it was fantastic! I love the imporovements that were made over the Dream! Much more adult areas by the pools (including Satellite Falls), the dinner show at Animator's is wonderful & my son really like The Aqua Lab! :) With that said... I still can't wait to get back on the Magic!!!

I think the booking for gold opened at 105 days, we are at 96 now. Silver is at 90 days.

I couldn't agree more about the Fantasy, we were on the 4/21/ Eastern and had a great time even though the weather left a little to be desired. I too am looking forward to being back on the Magic, going to get a little teaser on the 2 night on 6/15, before this cruise:thumbsup2

Hey guys! I think I've posted here before but in case I haven't, hello fellow cruisers! We are also on this August 17th cruise and cannot wait. We are flying up to NY on the 16th and staying for 1 night. I haven't booked us a room yet because we haven't decided where we want to stay yet. I know NY is expensive especially if you stay right there in the thick of it all but I'm looking to find a deal (as most of us are :) ). I'd like to know from the families on here actually spending at least one night before or after the cruise where are you staying? What was your reason for choosing that particular hotel? I'm looking for any help I can get! :flower3:

Welcome. As a native New Yorker who lives in NJ, it is hard for me to say but I will tell you, when I go away for short stays I always use priceline and bid on my hotel unless I want to stay in a specific hotel. I have used them for one or two night visits in Boston, Hershey Park, Orlando, Rhode Island, Philly. I choose the start level (usually 3.5 - 4) and the area (such as midtown-west side). I have lucked out every time.

I (a single female senior) will be traveling with my kids and grandkids on this cruise. Have any of you ever dined alone in Palo, and did it make you feel awkward or uncomfortable?

Or if there is anyone else in my age group who would like to share a table in Palo, let me know. (I'll be booking this at the 90 day mark.)

Opinions please?

WHile I can't speak to eating alone at Palo, I have eaten alone in many restaurants. Sometimes it is my way to decompress - enjoying a nice meal, nice glass of wine without the need to hold a conversation. But I recognize not everyone is comfortable doing that. But I have to say I don't think you will feel uncomfortable or awkward. The waiters are so attentive that I think you will feel fine.

Haven't dined alone at Palo, but have eaten there and know of some people who have dined alone there and they enjoyed it.

Hi everyone. We were booked on this cruise in Cabin 5522, Secret Porthole. I just sent a note to my travel agent at Dreams transfering our reservation to another date. As soon as she makes the transfer, it'll be available - so if someone wants it....have at it! Happy Sailing to all!

I held out waiting for add on people for as long as possible, but I think silver gets to book tomorrow so I just just paid in full-- it is going to just be me & DS Gavin (12)-- booked excursions, etc... so excited! So how many families are in the FE exchange? I had booked this so long ago I forgot it was done onboard & was just told I have a $350 OBC for Platinum! That will be sweet!

What did you book? I am not sure how many are participating in FE. It seems like a small group. Midnight tonight can't get hear fast enough!

I booked 2 massages (day 2 & day 7), parasailing in CC, & 10am bus time to WDW (DS is not an early riser on cruises! ;) . Still debating on Atlantis in Nassau-- we did it last summer on the Dream & had a blast but not sure we are going to do it again. I didn't book a Palo becausethey call the platinum guests & let them choose any day/time they want-- but since it's just me & DS (12), I may skip it this time.

so I've been looking into a British Colonial Hilton Nassau Day Pass while in Nassau. Seems pretty good for the price and stuff:thumbsup2

Lots of questions on this thread...here is my input:

I am staying up late to book at midnight. Sooooooooo exciting!!!!
:mickeyjum:mickeyjum

annmorr - I've never been to Palo but I would say don't miss the chance. If you want company, I am sure it would be easy to round up some DIS friends to share a table. I'll be 52. is that senior?

Update for the Fish Extender - six cabins are participating with a total of 21 individuals. How fun is that?!!!!! You can follow the list on the website below.

We are staying at Doubletree Family Suites pre-cruise. Right in the heart of Times Square.

I love Doubletree. They give the best warm chocolate chip cookies when you check in. Are you seeing any shows while in the city? If you are considering it, check out playbill.com for the latest discounts.

Yes! We may do a show! Thanks for the tip.
Just finished the on-line booking. No cabanas.:confused3
made lovely plans otherwise.
90 more sleeps!!

Same here. Were you able to check in? I was able to book everything I wanted but was unable to do the online check in. Don't know if I did something wrong:confused3

Keep checking on that cabana! You never know.

Ok I have checked in! Didn't realize the check in time was 3am!!! I am excited. It feels much more like a reality now. I keep checking the prices, hoping the price will dip. I would love for my brother and his family to join us but the price for a family of 4 is too steep.

I am going to try to book two connecting cabins on board and convince him to come in the future.

I have been debating on booking a room at OKW on 8/22 through DVC (I would prefer BLT, but it is sold out). I'd like to WDW for as long as possible that day, but with my bad knee a 12+ hour day may just be too much & it would be nice to have a room to crash in if necessary. Since it is just me & DS (12) I am leaning towards a studio, but if anybody is interested in sharing with me, we can go larger. Let me know!
