August 17, 2012 Magic in NYC!

Our boarding time is set for 3:00, so hopefully I can come up for a quick hello!

How many people are in your travel party? We will be boarding "group 1" because we are platinum. There are only 2 of us, myself & 12 yr. old DS, Gavin. If you will be there in time, you are more than welcome to be "honorary" members of our family & board with group 1 with us! (They only give 1 card with boarding group # per family) I think I would have a heart attack if I had a 3:00 boarding time!

From what I heard before platinum might be boarding group number 2. And only concierge is number 1, a friend who is cruising on 2 night right now is finding out for me. I know in PC platinum are now group 2. Though, they really don't need to be honorary family members, I'm pretty sure they can go early if they want and get on with a lower group

Wow, that's pretty late for boarding time. Will you be eating lunch on the ship? I don't think I could handle getting onboard that late
I didn't know it was late. It is just what it says online. As for platinum, concierge, etc...I have no idea what ya'll are talking about. I am so a cruise newbie!

You can show up to port earlier if you want or show up later after boarding starts its fine as well. I've never heard of people showing up before boarding time and not being allowed to board. Well Platinum is people who cruise DCL more then 10 times. And concierge is just room category

Got it! Thanks for all your help! Planning on being there by 2:00 anyway and have everything done online. Hopefully, we won't be runningup the ramp as they are dropping the lines! ;)

If you are there by 2:00 that sounds like a good time. That's the time we got on the ship in past in PC when we took transportation. It's after boarding starts so don't have to wait around in terminal at all usually. So if you wanted to get there at 1:00 I'm sure wouldn't have a problem either

Hi all sorry to butt in.
I'll be travelling on the August 25th sailing from NYC, so I'll be boarding after you get off.
I notice my name on your roll call, but I don't think I ever signed up for this sailing unless in my deepest dreams I was hoping to get 16 nights on the Magic.

As for boarding at 3pm, I would definately get on board earlier, I'm sure they will not refuse you, the port would probably be almost empty at 3p, and the buffet closing and activities such as ship tour over and done. If you get get on with the platinum cruise family go ahead.

I boarded on the 2 night NYC July 13th sailing as a new platinum member. Our group number was 1. The only people who boarded before us was the Family the the Day.

Enjoy your cruise everyone.

Brenda

thanks for the info about boarding I know I did hear back in May/June that they were going to change it so Platinum board in group 2 instead of 1, but that's more for bigger ships I think, still someone is finding out for me, but thanks for the info. If I hear something different tomorrow I will let you know. Your on the 25th? my friend goes that day as well:cool1:

Who wouldn't want to get 16 nights on the Magic.:)

You posted a while back on this thread about bringing an iron on board, that is probably how your name ended up on the list of passengers.

Ok. Someone please explain all the initials to me like DS, DD, DH, etc. I'm in as a DisGrandma. But I'm the mommy and only 38! Grammy sat out the vacation and is staying home in NJ to housesit with our dogs......:confused3

FYI
These cruisers expressed interest in FE
Is everyone below still keen?

Hi, We're Chapmanfam... I think we better skip Fish Extenders this time. We're 5 days from leaving for NYC and there's no way we can do everything (making the FE, and crafts) plus helping mom-in-law with putting together furniture, school meetings, working in our classrooms...I wish we'd known ahead of time but it's too late at this point. Another cruise perhaps... :P

I'm not even sure what cabin we're in at this point, we've got so much going on! I just remember it's on deck 6!

We will see you around the ship perhaps!

Kent & Karina (46)
Maddy (12)
Kara (5)

And Mom-Mom (grandmother) Barbara who declines to state her age, and is in the cabin next to us. :)

DD: Dear Daughter
DS: Dear Son
DH: Dear Hubby
DW: Dear Wife but I never see this because most guys either don't post or don't use the acronyms. lol.

:)

Hope that helps!

Karina

We booked Palo for Thursday as well, it's actually Semi-Formal night, formal night is most likely on one of the first two sea days. Not missing a good time, though semi-formal is lobster night, but from what I heard you can get that at palo if you really want

I just saw this (we are brand new to the board and it's six days from sailing, yikes, talk about late) and I wanted to give you the scoop:

Formal night is Saturday August 18th
Semi-Formal night is Thursday August 23rd

I called to talk to a Disney cruise CM about formal night and she made it sound like hubby could get away with semi-formal that night. Whew. She gave me the dates on the phone. Hubby is delighted to get it over with, it's the one thing he dreads. I can't get him to agree to bringing a sport coat, unfortunately, so it'll be slacks, shirt and tie...basically what he wears when he's teaching. Ack!

Hope this helps...

I sailed in April on the Fantasy & was group 1 as platinum. Even if they change platnium to groupd 2, I'm ok with that as well! I remember a few years back we used to get to the port before 9am & line up outside the guard gate just to check in early & get a low boarding number. This started after getting there at like 11:30am one year & getting group 30 something! It was torture to wait!!! Now we just stroll in at our leasure & are basically one of the 1st families on the ship! LOVE IT! Oh, one change they did make (which stinks) is the OBC for platinum was reduced down to $200 from $350! So, after this cruise, I have 2 more booked with $350 OBC and after that, it's back down to $200. That really stinks!

Oops!
I misread your post. Instead of reading Jenny, the mom, I read Jenny, my mom....that's why I listed four in your room including Grammy.
All corrected now, but check it to be sure.

I don't read many Internet threads, so I assumed that DH meant Disney Husband, DD Disney Daughter etc. I believe that these are standard initials for dear husband and dear daughter...although I prefer my initial understanding.

We will, definitely. Should we make name tags? I'm not sure mom-in-law will. I wish I had found this board earlier. We've been really clueless, my mom-in-law booked the cruise over a year ago for all of us, and the travel was handled through California (where she used to live). We're just finally getting up to speed on everything and feeling like we are playing catch-up. Since she moved partway through, we didn't even the brown envelope with all the basic info--she had hers but doesn't know what happened to ours. We finally borrowed hers a couple weeks ago and have been finally getting excited since.

This is our first cruise ever, and our first time to WDW as well--we're originally all from California so we're Disneyland/CA Adventure people. A friend works for Disney (marketing) and we used to go in with her all the time, sometimes we'd just go to ride a few rides or catch a parade. Once we only went to go to the Company D Store. lol. Oh those were the days when we were truly spoiled!

Kent and I both remember Disneyland when there were ticketed rides. I remember leaving with A-tickets and B-tickets left in the books. I wish I still had some of those now...I kept mine for years but you know how things get lost over time.

This will be such fun! Wish we'd been more in-the-know earlier. :sad2:

We'll see you Friday at 3! We board at 1 that day so we have plenty of time to get there.

OH! Quick question: What's with the beer mugs? I read that somewhere and really we have no clue on any of this stuff. :confused3

Thanks!
Karina :)

I saw the list at http: //magic1708. weebly. com/, (sorry it wouldn't let me post a link). Thanks for the information! I will share with my daughters tomorrow. Yay!

Can you fix my name though? Karina...like hurricane Katrina without the T. Or the hurricane.

Thanks!
:)
Karina

See you all in 6 days!

The beer mug is a 22oz glass beer mug that is purchased for about $15, when you fill it up you pay the price of a 16oz beer. so it's 6oz free beer each fill up. I don't know what the math is where it pays for itself but it's a nice souvenir and you can bring it back on the next time you cruise.....and be warned-Disney cruises are very addictive. I suggest you book your next cruise while on board for a 10% discount and $200 on board credit.
