August 17, 2012 Magic in NYC!

Last time I was in New York..1981
I hear t has changed.

A Yeah, I would say so. Especially since 9/11. The 9/11 memorial is supposed to be amazing. We have not got down there yet but is on our list to do. The top of the rock is awesome too! I like it better than the Empire State. You have a full view thru plexiglass unlike the wall and wire at empire.

Are you coming in ahead of time too? :wave2:

Hi,
Don't forget to pack a rain poncho for the day at Disney World. It often rains in August and the ponchos and umbrellas for sale at the parks are really expensive. I found our ponchos at the dollar store. I am putting them in the bottom of my suitcase.
:thumbsup2

Especially along 42nd Street.

That is exactly what I was referring too. I remember being a child and driving to the Greyhound bus station to drop off family who would be visiting us from New England. All I remember is big neon signs with XXX. Now I drive that way to going see a show and it's like a whole new world.

Just call Disney Cruise Line up and tell them you want to prepay-(800)951-3532.

Gratuitys are now automatically charged to your ship board account so you do not have to go to guest services unless you want to adjust from their recommended amounts.

I don't get this. If gratuities are automatically charged, then why would someone have to call to pre-pay?

Do you mean pre-pay as in charge your CC before the cruise? That makes no sense:confused3

I came to say Hi , since Tupperware mentioned I should in another thread.. But really I was pretending you guys didn't exisit because I missed the FF sign up.... LOL, it's my own fault that's what happens when you book less then 30 days out ;)

So.... Hi... Looking forward to this cruise...As I am sure we all are :cheer2:

For us the amount is $288. We pre-paid it so when we get on the ship we owe nothing. The amount we have on the account (OBC plus cash) is what we have to spend.

I agree this close to the cruise it makes on sense unless you want to charge it to a different credit card than the one connected to your ship board account. I think some prepay so there are fewer bills following the cruise.

Even with OBC our shipboard account is always pretty scary when we get off:eek:

I put a credit card on file, but, I would rather just pay cash, do you just opt for cash in the check in and then go and put it on the onboard account?

I don't much care either way about the tip piece it is all coming from the same place.. But, my credit card company is fraud alert happy and it I find it to be a real pain in my behind especially when I am traveling...

I guess I didn't understand the limits associated with the cash option in the payment forms enough to determine if it would work ok for me or not...

dont worry we are not all doing fe's, but someone was looking to do last minute maybe you could do one w her family. see below for her info.

also we have a link that shows who is sailing by family, my kids loved to see who was there age to help make connections on the ship seem easier.

You can put cash down at guest services at any time. If you have a card on file they automatically run it when the account hits a certain amount(I think it is $400 but I might be wrong). We usually pay cash so I check my account a couple of times a cruise and when it is getting close to them running the card I'll pay it down.

Not everyone is doing FE so don't feel bad, you get to relax a little more rather then worry about giving gifts out, and you can still meet all us lovely folks

I am finishing up my FE gifts, and do not have names for 2taxedmom and Nycdisney. I will just buy something if I don't hear from either by the end of the weekend, but wanted to give one last try so everyone gets the same thing from me!

Hi all! I've been super quiet because my Dad has been really sick. We were worried we might have to cancel the trip and just coming here and reading this thread knowing we might not get to meet all of you was heartbreaking! But it's decided we can go and so I've tried to catch up. I'm not going to quote everyone but try to comment/answer from memory (which is notoriously bad):

To the poster with the teen that likes Minecraft - we are HUGE fans of the game. but I don't think he'll want to discuss it with us since my son is just 8 and I'm 40mumblemumble, lol

We are the Elwell's for the poster that was asking. :)

I'm planning to run the 5k but I slacked off running once the really humid heat hit. Now all those nice outfits I bought for the cruise are getting snug! I have to get some runs in right away! We are arriving in NY on the 15th and I'm hoping to jog in or around Central Park so I can say I did it. we are planning on going to the Empire State building because my son has a fascination with skyscrapers, and we were thinking about trying to go to Ground Zero. Someone told me I needed tickets to see the memorial, does anyone know if that's true? We are also planning to see the Intrepid on the 16th (DH is a space shuttle fan) and maybe fit in an exhibit at the Discovery Times Museum if we're not completely wiped out. Also at least one breakfast at Ellen's StarDust Diner.

I have to admit I'm not even close to finishing my FE gifts.

A quick story: A couple years ago we were 5 days out from a Magic Eastern itinerary cruise when suddenly my husband discovered he had lost his wallet. He was annoyed but not dismayed since he could still use his passport for ID. He applied for a new drivers license and took to carrying his passport around. 3 days before the trip he loses the passport (from the same pair of shorts. I tried to throw them away since they were obviously evil but he fished them back out.) so we commence scrambling for a state department appointment to get an immediate reissue of the passport, he drove to about 3 registries to expedite his license renewal... Then 1 day before the cruise, when he was completely frantic and I was ready to throw him in the garbage with those shorts a neighbor walks up to us and says he found a passport in our driveway and was holding onto it until he saw us. Then another neighbor runs into DH and says the same thing about his wallet. So trip (and marriage) saved! I mention this because I just got a call from DH that his license has been expired since February. Sigh. What will I do with this man?? LOL

Wow! That was a lot for one post! So glad you will still be able to cruise and hope your father is doing better. Get your dh to the dmv to get that license!!! Well I guess he could still use the passport. Love the 40mumblemumble! I am 40mumblemumble as well!
