Yea it's Friday!

I'm doing my first 5K tomorrow. I can sometims run 5K but we'll see. Hopefully it won't be too cold in the morning.

To fight boredom, I download audio books from our library's Overdrive to the ipod. It keeps me going much longer than music. Especially since the ipod belongs to my 9yo son. You can only run so many times to Crazy Frog.

So, not to get off topic since this is supposed to be a cruise thread, but since we have a lot of runners here, I figured I'd bring it up here and see what you all had to say.

So I finished W7D3 today which is another 25 minute run. Because of the weather, I did it on my treadmill instead of outside. I made it just fine without stopping (Go me!:banana:). So at the end of it, I wasn't quite at a 5K, but I could have completed a 5K in about 45-46 minutes. Now, I know that is pretty slow, but what is a reasonable goal? I am planning to run my first in June and it looks like last year the winner was at 17 minutes, which a friend says isn't even a world class time. Of course, I have no plans to WIN the thing, I just want to finish without humiliating myself. So the question is, what should my goal be for a 5K?

Good Evening Everyone,,

Busy week here.........

Today, we had Hanna and Hope's teachers baby shower. Such FUN!!

All packed and ready to go!!!:cool1::banana:

Hello Everyone. Bet you all thought I dropped off the face of the earth.:goodvibes

Getting ready to leave for our favorite place in the whole world - Yup Disney - we leave a week from today. :yay: Our vacation with Kristin and her family overlaps 2 days so we are going to meet them for lunch one day. Really looking forward to that. :woohoo:

This trip is with the dance troupe as I have mentioned before and involves Sea World, Universal, Two days dancing in downtown Disney, and a DJ Dance Party for the kids. Needless to say my DH is having trouble planning because it will not be all DISNEY and we have other commitments.

Some how I will get him through this.

Jen - congratulations on your running. Keith is actually trying to get ready for a 1/2 marathon in Disney January 2012. I will be the one cheering him on.

Have a magical day!! Janeanne

Hey Janeanne,

Looking forward to having lunch with all of you too!!:thumbsup2:thumbsup2

You Go! I bet you will be so excited for your first 5K that you will be able to run the whole thing! Can't way to hear all about it!!!!

You are doing great! Don't worry too much about your time at this point...just do slow and steady and enjoy the run! DH and I have been running since January and we run anywhere between a 10 minute and 11 minute mile. There are many days where we run closer to an 11 minute mile even. You will not be humiliated at all - just keep going and your time will improve slowly.

We can claim that all our running chat is on topic...aren't we all in training for the 5K on Castaway Cay?! :rotfl:

Kristin - Have a fabulous time and enjoy the trip! I can't wait to hear all about it! That reminds me that I have to write the next section of my trip report. I hope to post a couple days worth tomorrow.

Say hello to the family...

A good 5K has very little to do with the actual time, particularly your first time. Actual times really depend on age and the course (flat, hills, etc). World class?! Try about 13 - 14 minutes! ;)

The best part of your first 5K is meeting your goal to compete and feeling good about it. That alone makes it a good time.

After that, I'd say that any time is good if you feel like you gave it your all. Any time I finish a race strong and almost puke but DON'T, is a good race. :scared1::rotfl: (see my previous posts about that!!)

I guess what I'm saying, is don't get hooked on a time. Train to do your best and just go. There's going to be people who finish ahead of you and there's going to be people who finish after you - don't worry about any of them!

Now the CC 5K is different of course. Last place finisher buys the drinks, right?! ;):lmao:

Thank you all for your warm welcome! The Wonder cruise was fabulous! I'm hoping to do a trip report and post it within the week. :thumbsup2

Would like to do the FE exchange. We had a blast with it on our recent cruise. Where do I sign up? :confused3

Hello! I am the one who you want to send information to for the FE. If you send me a PM with the following information, I will add you to our website and send you a link to access all the information. Here is what I need:

Names, ages of kids (at the time we cruise), stateroom number, dining rotation, where you are from, if you are celebrating anything and are you doing anything more than a cruise (like WDW before or after).

As soon as I get the PM, I will add you and then send you the link.

Thanks! Have a great day!
Jen

Thanks for all the encouragement. The 5K went well. The other runners and the crowd made it a wonderful experience. I had to walk some, but still finished faster than my usual time. DD came in first for her age group in the 1 mile fun run.:woohoo:

So as long as I don't get beaten by the walkers at the Race for the Cure I should consider my 5K a success? :)

Hi guys,

Well we had a lovely time in our caravan over Easter - although there was a lot of mud around. LOL x

Hope everyone had a lovely Easter.

I've had a lovely week off work and whats best is I've still got another week before I go back.

The dogs ran really well last week at the competition.

Im really excited about Remy's:cool1:

Also I found this info on a thread about other dining on the dream. A fellow disser emailed DCL and got this reply

Way to go! I love races because of all the runners and the crowds. I think that is what about running. Who cares if you had to walk some...you still did it and you finished! Here is a great quote for you to think about...

Dead Last Finish
is Greater Than
Did Not Finish
which Greatly Trumps
Did Not Even Start!

Congratulations to your DD too! :cool1:

Well, true. I can't imagine how HOT it will be in August. Wonder if someone could follow me around with a fan or something. I hate to sweat. :)

I am not fond of sweating either. I already have issues with heat when I run. It was 64° here yesterday and I ran in my skirt and a little t-shirt. I am planning on running in my skirt and sports bra on Monday when it is suppose to be 74°. I cannot possibly run in few clothes and last time we did the 5K at CC it had to be over 90°! :scared1:

So as long as I don't get beaten by the walkers at the Race for the Cure I should consider my 5K a success? :)

You should consider your 5K a success the moment you cross the finish line! :yay: My goal for my first race was to just finish (even if the walkers did beat me)! :goodvibes

WOW! Thanks for sharing this! :woohoo: I have not been following the website all that closely and will have to check out if all of this information is really there. I love it! I will put it on our website today in the dining area!

Thanks again!

Yummy!!!
Food court, I wonder if that means there will not be a buffet up there on the Dream and a mall/resort style food court instead?
