August 16, 2011, Disney Dream - Part 4

Did anyone get an email from DCL today?? It basically just said your cruise is approaching VERY SOON!!:banana:

Well in one of my occasional posts, it looks like DS Mason 11 and I will be doing almost a back-to-back, but only because real life business interfered. All 3 of us will now be going this Sunday, August 7, but Lisa will probably not be with us August 16...(we traded in our Thanksgiving week cruise since we were outside the 75 days)...and it was too late to cancel or flip this cruise over to the 7th...(yes I know there may have been the possibility of a credit for future use, but that was uncertain...I spent too many hours on the phone today w/Disney).

So while we were fortunate, sort of, just remember that real life can mess up any plans at any time.

Sounds like a lot of work for you ... but hopefully it all worked out the way you wanted it to.

Anyone know or hear anything about taking the shuttle from the car rental agency with everyone in the party AND luggage? I was going to send DH to return the car & take the shuttle back to the ship on his own, but with all the new embarkation schtuff... Any thoughts? I'm looking at a town car service (if I can still get one), but it would be ~$115 more. :confused3

I am having DH take our rental car, drive me and the kids and all our luggage to port, drop me and the kids and all our luggage off, drive back to the hotel, park and then take the shuttle back to port. I don't know how this is going to work with the new way things are being done so we will have to see how it goes.

I didn't get anything. :confused3

Alright....time for bed. I have to set the alarm because DH and I have to run 16 miles tomorrow. Night everyone!

I'm so sorry you had to change plans! I hope you will enjoy your back to back though! I have always wanted to one!

I just got off the phone with Avis in Cape Canaveral. Initially the guy believed I was with the Port Authority because of the questions I was asking. :cool1:

They said that their first shuttle left the lot at 11AM this morning and was able to make it to the drop off point with minimal traffic.

They had received a notice from DCL or the Port Authority to wait until at least 11AM to send out the first shuttle. By then the parking garage would be open and the traffic would be clear. He also told me that there are fewer shuttle passengers on Tuesdays than the other days. :thumbsup2

Doesn't sound too bad. But the days of arriving at 9:30, unloading and then hanging with friends are gone! :sad1:

It's also tough on the non-DCL cruisers. This will move their potential arrival times back also.

Thanks for the update. I am still trying to figure out the car rental business. We are renting thru Budget. Our flight lands on 8/13 at MCO at 9:25, so I figured by the time we got our luggage and got the car, we would be OK with returning the car 3 days later on Tuesday morning around 10 AM. I still need to call Budget and find out if there is a slight grace period. Last cruise, we rented from Avis and things went smoothly. DH dropped us off at the terminal with our luggage and went to return the car and took shuttle back. This time, we're all going to the car place with the luggage and coming to the terminal as a group.

RE: David Doss artwork and where to find

I have purchased mine at the Art of Animation store in Downtown Disney and also the Art store at Epcot. He usually is on property once a month with even more artwork than the "stock" ones-sand pails, lunch boxes, M&M at Poly, Grand Floridian, M&M snowmen to name a few. He also has some Epcot ones and seasonal prints. The DCL prints are exclusive to the ships so I'm hoping to get both of them this trip, especially the newer one that I posted a few pages back. I've had the sand pail one for a while, actually have two of them. The older one has MGM Studios on the pail and the newer one has been updated with Hollywood Studios :)

HTH!

Thank you so much. I am thinking there is going to be a stop at DTD on the day we return from the cruise on our way to AKL.

Chuck -- :sad2: I am so sorry to be missing Lisa but glad you were able to swap the Thanksgiving cruise to next week. Looking forward to seeing you and Mason.

Candidly, though two trips may sound like fun, I would have much preferred had we not had to make the changes...

One more question before I go to bed....how much does it cost to park at port?

We already have parking at the hotel but I am concerned about this new process and having DH have to go back and forth. It seems like a waste to pay but I also don't want to have to wait a huge amount for him to drive back to the hotel after dropping us off...wait for the shuttle to bring him back to port....and then have him get inside with us.

Randy (DH) called Avis and they told them that usually Ties are not very busy days. They were told not to shuttle anyone until at least eleven. So they said that their first shuttle would leave at around 11;00. I hope this helps. I'm sure they deal with lots of large parties and their luggage all the time.

I am now re-considering my own post. I might call the hotel and find out just parking our car and having all 4 of us and all our luggage take the shuttle from the hotel to port. I need to call and ask them about what time they will be running shuttles as well.

We are leaving our car at CIS and taking thier shuttle to the port.

I didn't get an email from DCL either!!

Thanks for all this information. I really need to find a few of them. Do you know if they were expensive? I would just buy the print and frame it myself.

Not expensive at all...the 8x10s are around $15-20 and the larger ones were maybe $30. They're prints, open stock. I think Downtown Disney may even have a poster size one (of the sand buckets). Now that I think of it, World of Disney might have a few in the Jewelry room. If you use your Disney Visa you save 10% over $50

You beat me to it Erika!!!!:lmao::lmao:

Good evening all!!! How is everyone doing tonight?

I am good and you??

Sorry, you had to change your plans!!

Re-reading my post, I guess I did not say that very well....Mason and I will still be on the ship on the 16th cruise...Lisa probably will not and we are figuring out which family member gets the 3rd bed...

We have the same situation. Our flight comes in at 9:40. I would be interested to hear if budget has I grace period. I believe it may be up to 1 hour. We will probably be hanging out with you at the budget terminal until 11am when the shuttles leave.
