August 16, 2011 – 7 Night Alaska Sailing

also, dd (12) and ds (11) will be joining us on this fab cruise!

they're too old for oceaneer lab but too young for teen club. any suggestions or advice?

I don't think they are too old for the lab. I doubt any kid would be turned away.

hi everyone! i haven't checked in here since this thread started, haha. sorry, been busy!

i just tried to make ressies to palo but there were nothing available. what are the chances dh and i will be able to have dinner there?? he's not happy i wasn't on the ball this time with online ressies :(

tia!!

My son is 12 and I was able to register him online for the Lab. He probably won't spend any time in there but I went ahead and registered him anyway. They now have a tween area called The Edge where kids between the ages of 11-13 can hangout.

So I'm in the process of putting together my FE gifts for each cabin. It looks like our lists are complete, but I've noticed that for one (Mrs Gumdrop) we are missing a cabin # (maybe you are GTY??), and for others, I have names for some of the cabins occupants but not others (especially the kids) or I have just nicknames.

I'd like to personalize my gift for each cabin with either everyone's first name or a family name, but I realize that some people probably want to keep their real names private, especially on a forum such as this.

What is the best way to deal with this? Should I simply send a PM to each person in my group and ask for the information I'd like (how secure is this?) Or send everyone my email address and ask for the info to be sent there (more secure?).

I understand if some people don't want to share the information, but I'd hate to have to label my gift as "To: BoardMember001, DH & DD" :rotfl:

Aby

We are Julie P and Maya P. Maya is 9. So sweet you want to personalize everything.

i'm confused, my reservation page shows nothing available for tea, brunch or dinner. it'd be for 2 too. :(

maybe it's based on a criteria?

...still refreshing and still showing nothing available.

I am sorry you are having trouble getting a reservation. I have a theory that I have yet to prove. I think that what shows up as "available" depends on your Castaway Club status. For example there might be seating still available to "platinums", but of the "silvers" seatings are booked up. That is just based on what I have observed.

The good news is, if you arrive to the port on the early side, you can probably book Palo when you get on the ship.

If you don't count today (there is only a few hours left of it), and you don't count the day we get on the ship (of course). We only have 50 DAY LEFT!!!!!!!:cool1::rotfl::banana::dance3::cheer2:pixiedust::drive::rockband::dancer::jumping1::rainbow::maleficen:stitch::donald::ccat::dumbo::tigger::goofy::mickeyjum:moped::hyper2::yay:

thank you so much for your replies re: palo and lab/edge!

i will register the kids for the lab and let them have the choice of going to the edge if they want to.

as for palo...this is our 4th dcl cruise....you'd think i would be on top of these things but argh! i'm so mad at myself for not.

do you all want to know the good thing about yesterday being "50 days until the cruise"??? That means today is day 49;) and that means we are know in the 40's:)

Hello Dis friends,

I know it has been a long time since we have updated but with my son's graduation, plus my niece and nephew, eagle project, grad night, and then off to college for football...needless to say...I have been MIA.

So to update our info: Me--Karma, DH..Todd, DS--10 Brandon nickname Dino, and Princess Breanna.

We have two staterooms (currently...long story). Right now they are 6643 and 6641 but that might change.

We are in the second dinning time with Pops and the twins....

I have not made our hotel plans yet and will be finalizing those this week...

I am SUPER excited for this vacation...a lot of bucket list items we are hoping to cross off. So far we have gotten all the excursions we want but hope none of them cancel:)

Well, hope to update more later but I figured the info was needed for the FE groups. Sorry for the delay...life

ALASKA HERE WE COME!!!!!!:yay::yay:

Well if you have been paying attention the day before yesterday I posted the we had "50 days until the cruise". Yesterday I post that we are in the 40's and that we 49 day until the cruise. So today I am happy to post we have 48 days until the cruise. :)

Hi,

Is it better to exchange currency (for the few days I am in Vancouver before the cruise) in the states or in Vancouver?

Also, does someone know where I can find a good packing list for a man? I would like to see if I need to purchase any clothing.

Thank you.

:dance3:

This is Mellers, coming at you from the OIT dormitory Wi-Fi :)

Is it better to exchange currency (for the few days I am in Vancouver before the cruise) in the states or in Vancouver?

It is better not to exchange currency at all. You'll get a much better rate off your credit cards for credit card purchases, and a better rate from your bank if you use your ATM card when you get off the plane.

Also, does someone know where I can find a good packing list for a man? I would like to see if I need to purchase any clothing.

If you are not doing any really strenuous or dirtying excursions, and you don't mind doing laundry once, here is what I would recommend (it's my husband's packing list). If you don't mind doing laundry twice, you can sacrifice a pair of khaki's and a polo:

Either rent a tuxedo to wait for you onboard ship, or bring a suit
Bring (or rent) matching shoes
Bring (or purchase) matching socks
Wear walking shoes
4 khakis, with belt if needed
4 short sleeved polo shirts
6 pairs socks to match your walking shoes
1 warm sweater
1 3-in-1 jacket (These are incredibly useful in the Northwest. They consist of a warm inner liner (usually polar fleece), and a light, outer rainproof jacket. You can wear the liner separately if you need a warm jacket, the outer liner if you need a light rain jacket, and both together if you need a warm coat.)
Here is an example: http://www.llbean.com/llb/shop/65688?feat=2-SR0
1 pair lightweight pajamas
1 pair flannel pajamas
Hat
Gloves
Swimsuit
Exercise clothes

You are likely to encounter a variety of weather on the cruise, and this should handle it all. If it's warm in Vancouver, you can wear the khakis and the polo shirts and be fairly comfortable--you can also swim. If it's cold in Tracy Arm, you can wear the flannel pajamas under your clothing, put on your sweater, put on the 3-in-1 with the liner, double your socks and wear your hat and gloves, and you will be toasty warm. I promise you, if you wear a tux to semi-formal night, you will not be alone, as my husband plans to wear one also (with a portable mobility scooter to load, as well as our luggage, we like to pack light.)

Hi Everyone! I've been so busy lately that I haven't had time to keep up with the Boards, but it's so great to check back in - I can't believe our cruise is less than 50 days away. :cheer2: I hope everyone's having a great summer. Thanks Mellers and Dumbofan for all the great coupons and tips! We'll definitely be checking them out.

Hi,

Is it better to exchange currency (for the few days I am in Vancouver before the cruise) in the states or in Vancouver?

Scothen - Mellers is right about using your ATM and credit card. The only thing I would add is that some (actually most) credit card companies charge a foreign transaction fee ranging from 1 - 3% so you should call and check beforehand. I believe the Disney Visa Card for example charges 3%. My AmEx and British Airways Chase cards don't charge anything so there are cards out that that don't tack on a fee, but that can vary among the various types of AmEx or Chase cards out there.
