We are planning a sudden trip to Disneyland for August 14-20, 2011:cool1:. I know that the AP's are still blocked. Is there anything special I should be warned of? We have been in late June the last two years before AP's were blocked, so we are used to that, but is there anything else for us to be aware of? Is it really hot?
I am also thinking about trying to rent DVC points for the first time after reading about this option on the Dis. I appreciate anyone's expert opinions!

The D23 Expo is Aug 19-21. I think the parks might be busy.

We were there last Aug 16th to 24th. It was very crowded and very hot. We tried to take advantage of the late night extra magic hours but I think everyone did that to try to beat the heat. A friend went down on Aug 26th and he said the longest wait he had the entire trip was 20 on Peter Pan. Try to push it back two weeks. I believe school starts in the south in mid to late August.

Thank you for your feedback. I guess I thought that we would be better off going before the AP's are unblocked. I am concerned about going August 26 forward because then we run into labor day weekend starting? Now I am totally confused.:confused3

In 2009 the crowds went through the roof in August after the AP blockout lifted. In 2010 they did not. But in 2010 there was a huge heat wave that week and in 2009 there was not. So did the AP crowds in 2010 drop from 2009 because of the heat or because the issue has lessened? This August we will find out - unless there is another heat wave hits the week of August 22. :crazy2: My money is on the AP crowds being heavy after August 22. I would personally choose to go before that. My two cents. :)

I feel comfortable enough with knowing that AP's are blocked that crowds should be no worse than in late June before AP's are blocked. We are a get to the park at opening, get our FP's, head back to the hotel for swimming for the hot afternoon kind of people, and return in the evening with many FP's in hand. We know how to do DLP commando style. Although after doing some research it is actually cheaper to go the August 28-Sept. 3, so I will ponder some more. :confused:Hydroguy, thank you for your information. I very much appreciate it.
