August 13, 2011 Med - Mickey's Marauding Mates

Hi Karen, you where the opposite to me then. I'm so glad i didn't book a transfer. We walked off the ship and straight into a taxi and it only cost us 17.50 euro. Although i'm sure you didn't want to hear this!

What a hassle with your hotel.

I'm going to book our flights to Florida tomorrow for next year's summer holiday to WDW. Let the planning commence...

Just out of curiosity, what time did you get off the ship? We had late seating breakfast so took our time getting off , about 9:30 I think...
maybe that was a mistake. I'm glad it was smooth for you. It really wasn't too bad as the kids still were entertaining eachother in line and the dads stayed in one place with the luggage until it was our turn.

I KNEW I should have booked a car service getting off the ship, but I let it slide so we waited in the taxi line for an hour. I was so impressed with how easy it was to get off the ship and then was faced with that crazy line.
Good luck getting home, LeeAnn. Maybe we'll see you at a Redskins game!

oh no. That was our experience last year - though it was 90 minute line and it turned very ugly at one point. That's why we used Disney transport this year - and even though it was more expensive it was worth it to avoid the hassle.

Lee Ann - so sorry to hear about your canceled flight. What a mess. Best of luck getting home soon.

just a suggestion; if there are other ships in port, you can walk to their taxi stand. Disney's is usually a lot longer than others due to the large percentage of families needing larger vehicles; it makes the wait longer.

Anne, so sorry to hear about your delay.

LeeAnn, I hope you are all home safely very soon!!! Not a fun end to the vacation, I'm sure.

We had booked transfers via Autos Vilar and they were WONDERFUL! Yes, they were a little more expensive - we paid 50 euros from the port to the airport, including tip, but they were there on time at 9:30 AM. The taxi line at that point looked daunting so I was happy to have set up the private transfer.

Our next trip is to the Beach Club Villas in WDW in late Feb / early March. Not sure I'll be able to wait that long....would LOVE to go for a long weekend in early December to see the holiday lights. :)

LeeAnn: Arrrrghh. What a horrible end to a wonderful holiday. I hope that by now you are on your flight and heading home. What reason did they give for the cancellation? That's a BIG plane to simply cancel

Like Kelly, we had an early seating and left the ship at about 8:30-8:45
We waited a little bit for a taxi - maybe 10mins? And then 9 hours in the airport in Barcelona
It was so hot, and the kids so tired that we decided that this was a better option than dragging/carrying them around Barcelona. Fortunately the airport has a playground, so both played there. Kid 2 slept for ~4 hours, kid 1 slept the entire flight home, so both were in high spirits by the time we got home late that night. :)

Well, we r back at CDG...After a very sleepless nite without AC. they told us to come at 7:30 this am but we didn't know what sort of line / mess we might face or if they would be trying to make us fly standby or what so we got here at 6:05!! We were the first in line ( tho others came only about 5 or 10 min after us) . The agents came at 7:30 & began issuing boarding passes for us ( on a smaller plane...we r now stuck in the middle 4 seats almost in the last row:headache:). They said that was the only way to seat us all together. Kinda irks me as I thought we should have had similar seats ( ie NOT in the middle section). Anyway , supposedly boarding will begin in 30 min....cross your fingers!
:goodvibes:goodvibes:goodvibes:goodvibes

We were at early sitting breakfast and we didn't hang around. We must have been off the ship by 7.45 as I was trying to beat the taxi queue.

We're back from our long flight home and delighted to see DS again. The trip and the ship were amazing and we've booked a placeholder too. Glad to be home, but boy is it ever a chore to have to scoop my own icecream now! DD loved the ship and the Mickey pool. The dining staff handled the celiac thing really well. We can't wait to go back!

Well. We made it home. Finally. But OY what a day!! Boarding was a total mess & then we sat on the plane at the gate until Noon. The flight was 8 hours. We landed at Dulles at exactly the same time as the freak earthquake in Virginia!!! It was a rough landing but at least we got on the ground before they initiated the ground stop they started while they inspected the runways!! Otherwise we'd have been circling for 2 more hours I suppose! As we came into the terminal from the plane they were making announcements to remain calm & that everything was fine & they were doing everything to ensure our safety blah, blah, blah. It was a weird scene. It took 2 hours to get thru Customs & get our luggage then another 2 hours to get home because the entire DC area shut down & evacuated after the earthquake so traffic was a NIGHTMARE. We headed northwest from the airport & waited on a car ferry out in Leesburg to cross back into Maryland. There was no way we wanted to head for the Beltway!! We were relieved to get home & find the house stood up pretty well to the earthquake. There were a couple of wine glasses that had fallen over in the wall unit and a picture & candlestick had fallen off the mantle & some of the stuff that had been on the frig. with magnets had fallen & a stack of old mail was in the floor too. Nothing too major. The cats seemed spooked (or else pissed that we'd left them for so long) but they've warmed up to us again now.:goodvibes All I can say is I can't WAIT to sleep in my own bed with my own pillow tonight!!!:cool1:

So glad you finally made it home Leeann. You will all sleep well tonight!

Glad you're home safely, Leeann! This will be a trip to remember in future years. I hope you sleep well tonight :cloud9:

I don't think I can blame Air France for the earthquake but they sure made a mess of the rest! Glad you are now safely home.

Going to miss this thread with no cruise to look forward to....

Glad you eventually got home safely Leeann - not the best end to your vacation.

We all had a fab time and are now back in the UK after a relaxing couple of days by the beach north of Barcelona - not made it home yet, instead we are visiting family in Wales over the holiday weekend. It was good to catch up with everyone at the meet - thanks again for organising the kids craft Leeann.
Like Kelly we were lucky with taxis on the last day. We had early seating but gave it a miss & went to Topsiders instead. We walked off the ship at 8.25 and had a 5min wait for a taxi to the station where we picked up our rental car.

Jeff - our DD is planning to email your DD when we get home as I think they want to exchange photos - just so you can let her know we haven't forgotten :thumbsup2

I now feel the need to plan the next holiday - the girls get 2 weeks for half-term in October so we'll try and do something then  Maybe we'll see some of you on a future cruise - you never know ;)

Jon

OK, raise your hands if you're like me & hate going back to the reality of unpacking, doing up dirty laundry and  cooking for yourself!!:scared1:

I ran some errands today (grocery shopping:headache:) & started trying to unpack & do laundry. :laundy:. What a time consuming chore! :sad2: Then I started trying to go thru our pictures. I took about 1,700. I had thought maybe 2,000. I had a free photo book on Shutterfly good thru today but am not going to make the deadline since we got home a day late. I am deleting as I go but not as many as I thought I would.

The cats are soooo happy we're home! They keep climbing up onto the back of my chair then onto my shoulders & start licking my head.:rotfl: They are such silly creatures!!:goodvibes

Found out that DS DOES have a 1/2 day of Freshman Orientation tomorrow. :thumbsup2 WHEW!! I woke up during the night worrying about him starting high school without knowing where he was going. The school sent out info. while we were gone on vaca (nothing like waiting for the last minute huh?). There is a parent meeting tomorrow evening. Sooo I will have to get him up early as the bus will come around 6:35-6:40. I am just glad he will get a look at the school, meet his teachers & get his schedule so Monday won't be as bad of a shock. I am about ready for bed now tho. I slept BETTER last night than I did most nights on vaca but I still woke up a few times. I suppose it's just jet lag. I hope?!

Hell yes. My hands are both up. Laundry purgatory. And work. And cooking. And cleaning.
Even the kids keep moaning that they wish they were back on the Magic

That sounds good! I hope he enjoys it and settles in quickly. He's a very nice kid indeed!

Awesome. We do have some photos to share with you. We took a few the last day when they were making flubber in the lab. Very cute stuff. I don't think we have your email address, so once we receive from you..we'll return one with the photos attached.

It was great meeting you all and I know the kids enjoyed themselves more by having each other as cruise friends!

Well, peeps, it appears our little thread is dying off. Just thought I'd pop in to say hey.

I've been busy with uploading pics into albums on Facebook and preparing for Hurricane Irene. We are far enough west that we're only under a Tropical Storm warning but that still means sustained winds around 30 miles per hour for 12 hours or so. We moved everything off the patio (brought the lighter chairs inside & used tie down straps on some and turned the glass top table upside down in the grass next to the house & weighed it down). Hopefully it was precautions we didn't need to do but there could be some higher gusts & we didn't want anything to go airborne. I picked up plenty of water & have enough 'D' batteries to change out all of our lanterns & flashlights once if the power goes out. All it takes is for the wrong tree to fall on the wrong lines to lose power.

Started getting a cold on Thursday & have a nasty sore throat.:headache: Probably got it from someone at the airport or on the airplane. Just glad it waited until we got home but I'm trying to stay away from DH & DS. I don't want DS to start school on Monday sick.:sad2: Hope all the other kiddos that started back already had a good start.:thumbsup2

Thanks for hosting the thread and organising the meet Annie! It made the cruise much more fun!

Glad we had the cruise when we did - the change in Alcohol on board thread would have made a big difference!
