BTW I was reading on another thread that someone paid 40 euros last summer for a taxi from the Novotel to the port so I am not sure how accurate that taxi link is....I'm gonna do some more checking....maybe we SHOULD book a ride together?!

I have also read on another thread & other forums that some people have paid 40euro for a taxi from the Novotel to the port. I have read others that have paid less than this at around 25-30 euro. It may depend on time of day & traffic etc. I'm happy to share a transfer if you would like to since we have the same port arrival time. Remember the company I was looking at will only pick us up from the hotel at 10.30. I don't know about you but I think I would prefer to be at the port as close to 10.30 as I can to try and get a good boarding number. Anyhow let me know what you think.

The reason I asked for the taxi link was to try and get an idea of how much a taxi we be from the hotel to the Hard Rock Cafe. We are planning to head to Placa de Catalunya/ Las Rambles for a bit of a look around on arrival day and hit the Hard Rock for an early dinner as we will probably miss lunch. I'm trying to decide whether to attempt the metro or take a taxi.

Hard Rock. Hummm...our hotel after the cruise is very close to Placa de Catalyuna I think - let me know how it is - maybe we can check it out then. I'm sure the metro would be cheaper. I think it's supposed to be pretty simple to use. But yes, a taxi might be easier still.

I don't know what to think about this transfer thing. What is your gut telling you? Someone on that other thread I was reading suggested contacting the hotel to ask them about the taxi so I think I might do that. I DID email the Hotel Jazz to see about going from there to the airport & they said they "work with a company" and that it's usually about 35-40 euro from there to the airport and that we can just arrange it when we're there - they will help us. Still a tad higher than what I'd expected a taxi to run but less than hiring a private transfer. Perhaps last years prices that we've read about are just that - last years prices. Maybe the higher cost of fuel has put everything higher this year.



I am having 2nd thoughts about my dress that I bought for sem-formal night! I wish one of ya'll lived here to stop me from doing any more shopping!! (No, I didn't BUY anything else but I DID try a couple more things on!)

Just got caught up on about 4 pages worth of posts. Was off line last week with my focus elsewhere. DD had middle school dance team tryouts last week. It is a 3 day process from Tuesday to Thursday. Results were to be posted online after 9pm Thursday night. We finally found out at 10:45pm that
LEAH MADE THE DANCE TEAM!!!!!!!!!!
She is still on cloud nine and I am so proud of her since she did not make it last year and worked her tail off to make it this year. It was a great birthday present to herself. Her 12th birthday was Monday. Sunday night we took 3 of her friends to The Melting Pot. The three moms and I sat at a nearby table and had a great evening too. The girls slept over Sunday night then swam and we had cake by the pool. I then cooked a family dinner Monday night.
This week we have piano recital tonight, dance team uniform fittings, etc. tomorrow night, dress rehearsal for dance recital Friday and the dance recital Saturday night. Exhausted yet?

Annie, I love the Mickey ears. Once I think about what to do, I'll PM you if you don't mind to do us one.

WOW!!! BUSY, BUSY!!! Tell DD happy belated birthday and congrats on the dance team! Sounds like a good time with the party & all!! I've never been to a Melting Pot...there is one down in Rockville I think... I've heard it's really yummmy tho! Happy to customize a sign for ya with some text - just lemme know. The credit really goes to Milliepie for putting the map on the head for us!!! I made a BUNCH of signs on our last cruise. I've really been slipping up on this one tho.

Which companies are you using for your transfers from the port to wherever you're going after the cruise?

We are going directly to the airport and have been quoted 75 euros by Barcelona Airport Taxis. Originally it was going to be 50 euros, but they have changed it due to the fact that we will have 3 pieces of luggage and require a booster seat.

I'm just looking for some comparison or suggestions.

Also, say I book my next cruise for 2012, but I decide I'd rather go in 2013, will DCL let us change it and we can pay the difference? Is there a fee for changing the dates?

Discount is 10 percent on the cruise fare (not the taxes and fees) and it is a good deal especially if you are booking far out. Sometimes if you already have something booked it's not as good a deal if prices have risen. You also get some form of onboard credit depending on what they are offering.
And yes you can change your reservation as you list above.

Since we're staying in Barcelona for a couple more days after the cruise we have gone in with Mikki for a car service of some sort to take us to our hotel. She calls it autovillars but I haven't been able to find a website for them anywhere yet. Every time I try to search for them I get villa rental places. Maybe she can provide a link when she returns from her latest adventure!?

Yes, as Jeff explained there is usually a 10% discount as a rebooking incentive. Also, they usually offer some additional OBC (onboard credit). That amount depends on how long of a cruise you book I think. Also, they have been offering a 50% discount on the deposit amount (so 10% rather than 20% I think it is now). We're actually doing this cruise with a rebooking credit from 2008. We picked a dummy date at the time and only put 1 person on the reservation initially (since we knew we weren't really going to sail on that date). Back then the deposits were fixed amounts not a percentage so I think it was only $125 USD we had to put down at the time and we received the 10% discount and a $200 OBC. We named Dreams Unlimited as our TA at the same time and then we received an additional OBC from them (now $200 for this particular cruise date/length/cabin). So we have $400 in OBC now. NOTE that if you rebook for a date that you seriously want to sail on you should add everyone at the time you book so the lifeboat space and kids club space is reserved. If you try to skimp they could get shut out later once the cruise starts getting booked up.

We eventually moved the ressie about 5 times I think before we finally settled on THIS cruise. At one point when we moved the date we went ahead & added DH & DS and had to pay the additional deposits for them. I don't remember now if we had to pay the FULL fixed amounts for them or if it was still only 50% not tho. It's been so long now but I think it was still just 50%! Then when we booked the Med cruise the required deposit amounts were higher so we had to add to the amount down again - but still 50% of the normal amount. All of this was done before they switched to the percentage method that they use now. It was all in fixed amounts.

But so yes, you could rebook onboard for a dummy date in 2012 and you'd likely only have to put a 10% deposit down and you'd get a 10% discount on the final price + an OBC (not sure how those are tiered). If you name a TA at the time you book you lose control of the reservation & they would have to do any moving FOR you BUT you'd gain whatever OBC they offer.

Annie, autovillars are the same if both ways. Should be 50 euros to the airport from the hotel.
I like the look of the new logo too - but don't want to add on at Aulani. Just a bit far to go for us. Have loved visiting OKW since 1992 but don't like the refurb. Hoping to get into Kidani and/or BLT for our January stay.

Weather still beautiful here. went snorkelling yesterday. Very relaxing.
