August 12, 2006-DIS DREAMS DO COME TRUE-Magical Western Cruise

I did do all the stuff I could on-line. We are going to GF first on 9th. I'm concerned too about Hurricanes but they say you just go to different ports. And if they cant get back to Canaveral who cares we'll just stay on longer :cool1: I wanted to go to the park first so we wouldn't worry about making connections. And if the weathers bad its thier responsibility to get us from GF to the Port. So I tried to do it the most conservative way just to make sure.. :goodvibes I wonder if your staying in the park if they give you your room number in the package for the room at GF??? Thx for your response Reg

Good afternoon! I changed my address but have not received docs yet. That is always so exciting when they arrive. Michelle, I definitely know what you mean about the passport photos. I would hate to be accused of any crime and have to show my passport as a form of ID! They would take one look and yell "GUILTY!!!" I am finally getting settled in here. It has been a lot of work but I no longer think the light at the end of the tunnel is a train. I hate moving, I have done it many times and it never gets easier. -Donna

This is our first time to cruise. :woohoo: I can't believe it's almost here. We booked almost a year ago. I'm getting into the packing mode and have been reading all the tips. Has anybody had problems with sea sickness?

We are staying on Deck 6: Me, DH, DS12 and DS7. (I hope I did that right :) )

Good Morning everyone!

pjclarke,

Welcome! We're also first time cruisers and will be on deck 6 with you. :) Where are your rooms? Our family consists of myself, DW, DD14 and DS8. We have two cabins forward starboard side. I'm sure the boys will get to know each other pretty quickly.

I'm Laura - sailing with my dear GH !!!
We are from Italy .
WOW !!! Coming from California !!! We have people coming from all over US !!!! :bounce: :bounce:

Have you already booked excursions / activities ???
Re seasickness : we maybe would not suffer from it - we have cruised many times with no problems at all !!!
But ... just in case ... :confused3 we don't want to spoil our so-long- dreamed of vacation :Pinkbounc :bounce: AND SO WE ALWAYS WEAR ONE OF THOSE "scopolamine patches": they have no side effects on us - but it's better to talk to your doctor .
Some NATURAL remedies are GINGER (pills) and sea bands (elastic wrist bands) ; some people say these prevent seasickness, some say they do not work - no side effects though ! :confused3
MOST PEOPLE ENJOY THE CRUISE WITHOUT ANY PROBLEM !!!!

Come in when you please :cloud9: and share your cruise dreams with us !!!
Laura :dance3:

My eye is black and blue, but I was promised it would be gone in about two weeks. I have a lot of explaining to do when I go out. Everyone asks "what happened to your eye?" I wish I had a better story to share!

Donna
Hope you are surviving. I don't want to move until I retire! It is so much work. You will really need this vacation.

We use bonine for seasickness and it worked better than dramamine. They also have "less drowsy" dramamine now as well. On our last cruise, we were trying to outrun a hurricane and we were really rocking! They even closed the pools because the water was sloshing out of the pols. The steward cut up some green apples for me and that seemed to do the trick.

Jess comes home today. Yippee!! We are on our way to pick her up today.

Our younger DD is in the show ""into the woods" and my husband just finished "Me and my girl" and then will start rehearsal for "lil abner". As you can tell we are a musical theater family. My DH and I met doing a show in Baltimore and so we have kept the tradition up with our girls as well. DH and I love to sing "i got you babe" on karaoke night, (mainly to embarass the kids) but we hope you will all come and listen.

Have a great weekend!

Michelle

We are staying on Deck 6, Foward Port side. Only have 1 room, but we're ok with that. DH7 and DH12 are bummed that they're not going to be together in the Oceaneer Lab/Club. DH7 will talk to anybody and make friends fast, but DH12 is shy. Honestly, we'll probably spend more time with them than they want. It's nice to know that they can go off and be with other kids though! :thumbsup2

We have booked our excursions and Palo reservations already on-line. I love that! The kids are really into the "Pirates of the Caribbean" movie right now, so in Key West they wanted to visit the Pirate Soul & Shipwreck Museum. We will do the Stingray City Snorkel Tour in Grand Cayman, and the Cozumel Beach Break in Cozumel. We wanted to do the Chankanaab Sea Lion Discovery, but it's no longer being offered. Well, that's what we have reserved. Do any "veterans" have other suggestions? :teacher:

Welcome Pam! I too use the scopolamine patches. You have to have a prescription but I have never had a problem getting one. DH and DS (11) have never had any seasickness. We are also doing the Cozumel beachbreak, we are doing the Stingrays on Castaway Cay. Last time we did the Stingray excursion in Grand Caymen and it was great but I want to try the new one. :sunny: Donna

Pam

First WELCOME to the DIS and our Cruise Thread, it's great to hear from you.

Terry (DH) and I used the patch last year when we did our first cruise they worked great. We put them on the night before our cruise then once again a few days later. The only time I got worried was the first night crossing the Gulf Stream. (a little rocky)

Hi Pam :wave2: :wave2: :wave2:

We didn't get seasick. I took stuff just in case, but didn't have to break it out. Probably best to keep some on hand if you aren't sure how you are going to be.

DH (Tim) really suffered from the wobbles (not sure of the technical term!) for about a month after. He had the feeling he was still on the boat and could feel it moving, which was kind of disconserting when he was sat in his office! I think it's an inner ear/balance thing.
