Aug 21st-27th????

Hi everyone,

It has been less than a year since our last trip to DL, and my family is really torn between sticking on our own coast or returning to the west coast for another return to DL.

Can anyone tell me anything about roughly about what is DL like during the above dates? Any info pertaining to crowds (are school in OC open?), weather, ride closures for holiday overlays, etc, that you may wish to share would greatly be appreciated.

We are going during those same dates this year! I expect crowds because of the AP's being unblocked during that weekend. But, yes, some schools in the area and bordering states ( like Arizona) will be back in session. Still, I think crowds will be better compared to, say, June or July. We shall see! Weather is usually wonderful this time of year, perfect temps night and day. I would not expect many closures due to holidays. August is great because DLR operates on Summer hours so everything is going full tilt! I would expect to see greater numbers of locals versus vacationers! That is my experience in the past. Probably really crowded but it is hard to say. The unblocked APs do show up around Aug 20 and it does drive lines up. I was there last year at that time and saw it. But it can still be a lot of fun. If it was me I would go before Aug 19 just to be safe.

We'll be there for a first trip August 11-18, sounds like we're getting in just under the wire as far as the AP crowds go. I've been looking online and their calendar, and the DL site says that August is their busiest month of the year. Should we expect wall to wall people and long lines for everything? I'm a little worried about that because I will be traveling with a 5 yr. old and also my parents who are in their 70's. Any tips would be appreciated here as well

If you use smart touring strategies then no. For anyone who shows up two hours after park opening each day and stays thru the afternoon and heat of the day and then leaves 6-8 PM, then maybe.
