~ Aug 2013~ Sew what... We've gotta find a way back! Part I!!

Oh, poor MM. Prayers for you all. Hopefully because he is still a puppy that will speed healing, whatever the cause.

I work with a couple who are DVC people and everytime we talk, I think we should seriously look into it. DH, however, has it in his head that it's just for "older folks."

We bribed my BIL with golf the last time we all went to WDW. It worked out well because he and my FIL went to the courses and the rest of us went to the parks and had fun!

Poor Max! I so hope that the nerve can regenerate. Didn't know that was even possible! I will continue to say prayers. Our pets are so a part of our families, aren't they? Please don't feel guilty about how it may have happened. Puppies can get into such strange things all on their own.

MM has been pretty dreary all day - he hadn't moved at all from his spot on the livingroom floor.

Finally about an hour ago, I came down to check on him... I noticed he still hadn't eaten a thing since the night before last, nor has he had anything to drink.

So, I went to the freezer and grabbed him some ice cubes (his favorite treat) - I figured if he wasn't drinking, I'd get some water into him somehow. He ate 5! Whoot! Then Alli brought his food bowl into the livingroom and laid it in front of him... He ate it all. Phew!

Then she gave him his Eeyore, which wasn't the best idea, because he loves his Eeyore so much... He loves to toss him into the air and catch him... Which the vet said he is supposed to be "taking it easy"... So, we had to take Eeyore away. :(

He seems to be using his leg a bit better, and not limping nearly as much. However, we can't tell if he has any feeling back in it yet. He's not really dragging it any more, and acutally putting a little weight on it. I am hopeful.

Here's a few pictures from earlier today... Josh was able to get him to lay down on an ice pack for quite a while...

Then later with his Eeyore...

Glad to hear Max is feeling a bit better and at least he is eating and got some water in him.

MAX!! Oh WOW! I am glad he is feeling better!!! Will keep in our prayers.

AND WOW about DVC! I have no idea about any of it at all, so I'll just be sitting here with my popcorn following along. popcorn::

I really hope that the medicine helps and that the nerve grows back. Keeping MM in my thoughts and prayers.

So glad to hear MM is feeling better! Poor thing, and poor you :worried: I'm praying for a full recovery!

OH NO!

This is one of those times when I hop that the doctor is wrong...very wrong... Praying. And keep us posted!

Nini

Poor Max. It is such a bad feeling when you know he is in pain and you can't tell him why. Poor little guy. I am praying for the best for him.

sending many prayers for Max. Ihope the vet is wrong.

I've been really enjoying your pre-trip. Your bags are amazing! I love the Mickey ones best. One thing to think about with DVC is take a look at resales. You may be able to find what you are looking for in terms of size and location, and for a lot less money! Most importantly, hope everything goes well with Max and that he is on the mend soon.

Thank you. :) And thank you for the suggestion about looking at resales, I have been looking at them exclusively (I am too chicken to call Disney, because if the resales are expensive - I can't imagine how much they cost from Disney)... I am thinking that resale is the way to go - especially for my first contract. :thumbsup2

My plan: Start saving some cash. :crazy2: I would like to start off with a small contract... 50-100 points (closer to 50 than 100)... I would just like to get my feet wet and see if this is something that is really for us. If not - I have heard that smaller contracts sell quicker, so it should be fairly easy to off load. And if we like it, I would eventually like to possibly get a 2nd home resort with another small contract.

I do think the studios would work for us over the next few years. Whether I go with the girls or alone with Josh, or bring a friend - I think it would work fine. I definately would like to eventually have enough points that I could get a one bedroom once a year - but I would like to work up to that. I think. I guess I will see where I am once I save up enough $$. But I really appreciate everyone's opinion on this. I have never once heard of anyone regretting their decision to get DVC, the only regret I ever hear is that they "wish they would have done it sooner".

I don't think this will happen any time soon, but I would love it if I could buy my ideal contract.... A 50 pt contract at AKV with all of last year's points banked, so I could book a trip as soon as we close. :thumbsup2 With the bank and borrow - I could take 2 trips, 1 each year for the first 2 years, and I think that would be enough to tell me if I want more points, which I am pretty sure I would.

Oh poor MM! I hope the medication works and the nerve regenerates! I will continue to prayer for him.

Oh poor Max! It's so hard when our pets are hurting and you can't do much to help them. :( One of my schnauzers is having serious eye issues and has gone blind pretty much over night. It's been hard getting him to adjust and we've had some scary moments as he has fallen down steps twice.

I hope all goes well and his foot heals. But, for some comfort, I volunteer every weekend at a local animal shelter. We have had many dogs (and cats) who have lost a leg and they do really well. Most of the time they do so well that you don't even notice right away that they are missing a limb. If it comes to that your baby will be fine and he will just be more special than before! :goodvibes

I am sorry about your schnauzer - that must be a hard adjustment and so scary about the steps. I hope he is able to adjust quickly. Our next door neighbors at our old house had a blind dog - she was so smart and lived a wonderful (spoiled) life.

Thank you, that did comfort me a lot. I just worry that he wouldn't be as happy, but even Josh told me that there are lots of dogs who still hunt with only 3 legs.

Oh, poor MM. Prayers for you all. Hopefully because he is still a puppy that will speed healing, whatever the cause.

We bribed my BIL with golf the last time we all went to WDW. It worked out well because he and my FIL went to the courses and the rest of us went to the parks and had fun!

You should look into it... I don't think the savings are that great - honestly - because I am able to get my trips fairly cheaply. But, it would guarantee me a trip once in a while.

And I really think that Josh would enjoy AKL a lot - if I could ever get him to go with me again... And yes, golf might just get him there - but I don't want to walk around the parks by myself all the time either while he is golfing, if we were to go alone. So we would have to do some compromising. :flower3:

Poor Max! I so hope that the nerve can regenerate. Didn't know that was even possible! I will continue to say prayers. Our pets are so a part of our families, aren't they? Please don't feel guilty about how it may have happened. Puppies can get into such strange things all on their own.

I was quite clueless about DVC until a few days ago too... To be honest, I had no idea how it worked, and it confused me greatly. But the more I read, the more I like it - and I like how individual it can be. I was always under the assumption that you could only get large contracts, and I am really not interested in those yet. Once I figured out that I could buy a small contract or two (or three) - it made me a lot less aprehensive about it.

I really hope that the medicine helps and that the nerve grows back. Keeping MM in my thoughts and prayers.

So glad to hear MM is feeling better! Poor thing, and poor you :worried: I'm praying for a full recovery!

I wanted to take a moment to thank you for all the prayers for Maxy. I don't have much of an update this morning, as he is still laying on his blanket on the livingroom floor. I do know that Alli slept down stairs on the couch with him last night. :lovestruc He continued to use his leg a bit more last night, and I am so very hopefull that he is healing. But like Josh said last night, just because the inflamation is down and he is using his leg more, doesn't mean his leg is healing properly. :( We are praying that because this happened while he is young, that he will be able to bouce back. I am sure, like Josh's back, he will still have problems with this intermittantly through out his life, but hopefully not. I will just ask for all your continued prayers so that he heals and is able to just be the puppy he is.

Today, I will be in my sewing room for most of the day. My neighbor and I committed to a walk this morning, and I have to pick Alli up from school later today, but other than that - I will be sewing. I am starting a new bag, and excited to get going on this one. :thumbsup2

I hope everyone has a fantastic day, and thank you again for all your prayers for MM. :lovestruc

I hope that Max's nerve really does heal and he can live a pain free life! He is young so I am sure that is in his favor in terms of healing.

I saw on the new this morning that it is getting cold up where you are. We're having a terrible rainy, windy day today. I hope you get a lot done in your sewing room.

Oh poor MM! When I read the first post, I was hoping it was just a pulled muscle. Buffy gets those sometimes when she is playing extra hard. I will keep my fingers crossed that he has a complete recovery.

DVC! Oh wow! I can't wait to hear more about it and your experience if you go ahead with it. I think it would be wonderful if you could start with a small contract and add on from there. Wishing you good luck with it!

So sorry to hear about MM. I hope he continues to walk more and ends up with the nerve regenerated. Poor puppy. At least he is eating now, that is a good sign he is starting to feel better.

DVC is exciting to think about. I know I want to buy resale, at AKV, but I don't want to finance it and I need to get some of my finances in better order first, too many bills. Have you looked at the Timeshare store, they seem to have better prices, but I usually don't see the smaller contacts with them. Anyway good luck with everything!

So glad to hear there has been some improvement...and that he's eating and drinking again! Prayers for continued healing!

Awww...poor little furball! Fingers are crossed ::yes:: But you are right, he is a puppy and has a better chance of bouncing back than an older dog. :goodvibes

sorry to hear Max is hurt, hope he continues to heal and is up running around again soon

I'm looking into DVC too...have put it on hold until the spring, needing to do more research and get my accts up a bit...we will do studio's too, Megan really wants BLT, I'm still deciding which one I like best!

I am way behind..again...Poor Max, HUGE hugs for him and his pain. Is it possible the nerve damage occurred before this weekend (maybe at the lake); however, just got worse as time went on...:confused3 Praying for a complete recovery, I know this hurts all of your hearts.

LOVED the Mickey Sorcerer's Bag (yes, I am THAT far behind on commenting ) No special effects for me to rip off...NOt a fan of Princess anf the frog...BUT that bag is spot on!

I hope you can find the DVC that fits your needs and pocketbook....one thought, if you DID purchase from Disney, could you get a discount with your Target gift cards? ;) Just a thought, I know it is more than you want to purchase...

I am reading, even if I don't have a way to lo in and comment.

Hugs for all of you, including Max.

 Poor Max. How scary and I do hope the Vet is wrong. Glad to see he is eating and drinking. Hopefully he will start feeling better soon.

Also I heard a rumor on FB that free dining might be coming out for Jan-Mar.:rolleyes1

What is a value studio at AKV? I see on the points chart it's a very nice value! But can you tell me the difference? Do you have a crappy view with them?

D~

Actually the value refers to the size. They are just a tad smaller than the regular DVC rooms but not much. They are the best kept secret in DVC and book up quick so having your Home resort here would be helpful as you get the 11mths too book it before other DVC members.

The values are also located at the best part of Jambo near the lobby. :goodvibes They can be either pool view, savannah view or parking lot but we have yet to have the parking lot view.

Also going resale you get more for your money. It is about $120 pp right now and the rumor is GrandFloridian may be around $200 pp :scared1:

I hope so too... He was running around a bit too much yesterday, and he is back to limping a bit again this morning. It's so hard to keep him settled down, and to keep him from running.

It is getting colder up here - I am definately not ready for it. I love fall and the cooler temps, the changing of the leaves, but I hate winter and all that comes with it - especially the driving and traveling over the holidays (where it's almost necessary).

Oh poor MM! When I read the first post, I was hoping it was just a pulled muscle. Buffy gets those sometimes when she is playing extra hard. I will keep my fingers crossed that he has a complete recovery.

Thank you. I hope so too... I was very hopefull yesterday, but he is back to limping a bit again today, so we need to try to harness his energy a bit more - which is very hard.

Yah - DVC still scares me, and I am just not sure what to do? On one hand, I want to jump in so that I am able to use it for our upcoming trip - otherwise it just feels like a waste to me to pay for a hotel and then turn around and buy into DVC, when I could have put that hotel $$ into DVC. If that is the case - I really need to act fast. And then I struggle with how many points to get, do I get just enough to get us the bare minimum and be squished? Or do I just break down and get what we would be comfortable with? It's such a difficult decision - and even more so, since I feel that is it frivilous on my part, seeing that it would be primarily for me and Josh doesn't have any interest in it - although, I am hopeful that one day he might?

So sorry to hear about MM. I hope he continues to walk more and ends up with the nerve regenerated. Poor puppy. At least he is eating now, that is a good sign he is starting to feel better.

Yes, he is back to eating and drinking - which is such a relief! We just have to be very careful with him over the next weeks.

I know what you mean about DVC, it is much more appealing now that I have looked into it more thoroughly. It is definately not a money saver - IMO - well, it would be if I stayed in deluxe accomodations all the time, but I don't, so the savings is minimal (at best) and I wouldn't see any savings at all until I have several trips under my belt. The only benefit to buying resale (and it's a big benefit) is the price savings... You know that since you purchased resale, you are not going to take as big of a price cut when you resell as if you prucahse directly from Disney. So, I am just struggling with what to do. :confused3

So glad to hear there has been some improvement...and that he's eating and drinking again! Prayers for continued healing!

Thank you very much. :lovestruc

Awww...poor little furball! Fingers are crossed But you are right, he is a puppy and has a better chance of bouncing back than an older dog.

Yes, it seems that way - he is bouncing back - a little too quickly, and it's very hard to keep him mellow so that he can continue to heal.

sorry to hear Max is hurt, hope he continues to heal and is up running around again soon

I'm looking into DVC too...have put it on hold until the spring, needing to do more research and get my accts up a bit...we will do studio's too, Megan really wants BLT, I'm still deciding which one I like best!

Thanks Lisa!

I know what you mean... It's such a difficult decision. I could see you and Megan really getting your use out of it though, and a Studio being perfect for the two of you.

BLT is not on my list of contenders... I would love to have one of my home resorts be on the monorail some day - but I think I will hold out until the Poly gets theirs. My dream is to eventually have 3 home resorts, with enough points to rotate the 3 of them every 3 years. By the time the Poly opens their DVC, I will be old and feeble and way better off financially. I am pretty sure that AKL is going to be our first, followed by either BWV or BCV - definately one of the Epcot resorts. However, I do LOVE the feel of VWL, but the rooms seem a little less "lodge-y" to me, and I am not sure that I would like that? I would love to stay there some day to check it out, and that's what I love about DVC, I can do that. :lovestruc Right now, I will just be happy enough to have enough points to go every once in a while. :thumbsup2

I am way behind..again...Poor Max, HUGE hugs for him and his pain. Is it possible the nerve damage occurred before this weekend (maybe at the lake); however, just got worse as time went on...:confused3 Praying for a complete recovery, I know this hurts all of your hearts.

It is possible - but not likely. Josh asked that same question, and according to the vet, the nerve damage would have happened immediately. So, 95% chance that this happened last Thursday or Friday. :confused3 We are still so stumped as to how it happened, and just very relieved for him that he appears to be having some improvement. Now, the trickiest part is to keep him mellow so that his body can finish whatever healing it can.

[LOVED the Mickey Sorcerer's Bag (yes, I am THAT far behind on commenting ) No special effects for me to rip off...NOt a fan of Princess anf the frog...BUT that bag is spot on!

That is something I was wondering about too... YOu know me - all about finding the best/cheapest ways of doing things. It is something I would like to call and ask about, I just haven't gotten the nerve... I am afraid to call, because I may hang up owning DVC. :faint:

[I am reading, even if I don't have a way to lo in and comment.

Hugs for all of you, including Max.

It's all good Judy - I totally understand... I don't always have the time to comment either. I am super excited for you and your family right now... Praying for bright sunny skies your entire trip, and LOTS of Pixie Dusting all around! :thumbsup2

 Poor Max. How scary and I do hope the Vet is wrong. Glad to see he is eating and drinking. Hopefully he will start feeling better soon.

Thank you Michelle! :thumbsup2 He is starting to feel way better, but he was a bit too hyper yesterday, and he was paying for it a bit this morning... we need to be a lot more careful with him over the next several weeks... I may even have to resort to leashing him in the house, to encourage him to be mellow. :confused3

:Also I heard a rumor on FB that free dining might be coming out for Jan-Mar.

Oooh - now that piqued my interest. :thumbsup2

Thank you so much for taking the time to explain. Are the value studios very hard to get at the 11 month mark? I know the girls and I could squish into a studio, but after our stay at POFQ (it was very nice, don't get me wrong) but it would be even nicer if we had a bit more space. A 1 BR would be ideal for me in almost every situation - no matter who I went with. So, I am really struggling with the "do I squish, do I not squish?" Or "do I squish occasionally? Do I not squish occasionally?" LOL It's so hard. Then I look to the future, and think that someday (it better be a LONG time yet), I will have grand children, and then, it will be imperative that I take them to WDW as often as I can - after all - I missed it with my girls, and I am not going to miss it again.

I just wish I could afford to try it out before we commit. But then I have a heart attack about renting points, and also "wasting $$" by renting points if we end up buying - when I could have put the $$ towards my DVC - and been that much closer. Sigh.

Now, this, is what I am talkin' about... Absolutely beautiful! Thank you for those pictures... Would you be willing to share with me your points and how you use them? I know that sounds weird, but I like to get a feel for the different points that people choose to purchase and how they like to use them. You can send via PM if you prefer. :thumbsup2

I am super happy with my day in the sewing room yesterday - I was able to accomplish soooo much! Despite the fact that I went for a walk with my neighbor and didn't get up there until after lunch time... Today I plan to work exclusively on the applique, and potentially start the final assembly of the bag. :cool1: I hope to finish totally tomorrow morning and get it in the mail by Friday.

Once I finish this bag, I will be going back to my Super Secret Project... I have so much left to do on it, and a deadline that is quickly approaching. Thankfully I have some easy orders coming up over the next few weeks, and also a scheduled "week off" in there, so I am hoping to finish the project during that time - I am sure it won't happen, but I am hopeful.

I am still struggling with DVC, if you read any of my above comments... I am really so unsure of what I want to do. Actually, I know what I want to do - but wanting and needing are two different things. I am really struggling with A: Where to purchase my points from - if I purchase directly from Disney - it's so much more expensive, but I am not limited in how I use them. B: How many points to get. C: When to get them. D: Which resort to start off with. It is so hard, because each family is so unique - and that is the good/bad about DVC, you can totally tailor it to your needs and adjust as necessary. I really want to buy in before our next trip (which may mean that I would have to bump this trip back to October 2013). And it's so hard to talk to Josh about it, because this isn't like a car purchase or anything necessary - this would be a LARGE frivilous purchase mostly just for ME, and I am finding it hard to justify - even if it is something I would get much enjoyment out of (and I have lofty dreams that Josh may enjoy it someday too - especially if I was able to get him to come with me)... :confused3

When I went for my walk with my neighbor yesterday, we got to talking about DVC... She has owned a week in RCI for over a decade, and she likes it. But I have a hard time comparing RCI with DVC, it's like apples and oranges. When we came back, she logged in with RCI to show me how it worked, and she did a search for Disney availability - which there wasn't any. It didn't surprise me, because I am pretty sure that DVC holds most of their properties close until the very last minute. And the way RCI works is totally different than DVC... I dunno, I hear so many people who own other timeshares that truly regret their purchase, yet the only regret I have EVER heard from DVC owners is that "I wish I would have done it sooner"... So, that makes me think that it is a really spectacular program that the overwhelming majority are happy with, and it must be different than everything else out there.

Anyways... I better get on about my day. I would love it if any of you who own DVC would be willing to share your story with me... How you came about getting it, how many points you chose to purchase, how you use your points... And, my neighbor also mentioned something... She said this last year with RCI, she had to pay for some sort of water tax thingy - it was a huge ammount of $ - like +$3800 more than what she normally pays for dues...With a due date of Paid in Full with in 60 days. Ouch! Being a DVC owner, do things like that ever come up?

OK - have a great day everyone! :wizard:

D~

D I will compose thoughts on how we bought and then added on while I am at work. Granted we did finance and then pay off in about 6 months to a year after we bought.

We started with a small amount of points and added on an extra 30 about three years later when we needed them. I have never had trouble booking at the seven month window so my advice would be to buy the least expensive points resale and just use that. You can always add on a small second contract! We are at BW but we have only stayed there twice and we have gone on a lot of trips. And don't forget you can borrow and bank, as well as rent points from other members of whom you know many. In my opinion, at least starting out and getting a feel for everything, is that "less is more". If I could do it again, I'd buy even less resale points, say 175 or 200 total from Vero.
Good luck and an ear scratch to Max.
