It amazes me how well I slept last night. Sleep just seems better during a storm. I woke up rather early to jump start laundry cleaning and pack. The owner called again to check on us (i.e. his house). He was pleased to learn that his house was perfectly fine. We didnt loose electricity, only cable!!! But honestly, the owner was really nice. I would rent from him again in a heartbeat. Our plans for today was to go to Sea World or Universal Studios later that afternoon, but decided against it. I called and was told that Animal Kingdom was closed today due to the storm. Our Rainforest Café PS of course was cancelled. All the other parks were opened, but we didnt feel like Disney today. Around Dinnertime everyone wanted something different and I suggested Don Pablos. A few years ago David and I went to Don Pablos with some friends of ours. This is when I fell in love with Mexican food. Before Don Pablos my interpretation of Mexican food was Taco Bell. Last summer we didnt make it to Don Pablos so we were anxious to visit Dons.
As we drove down I-Drive we were amazed at the damage. For those who have visited I-Drive, do you remember all those beautiful palm trees in the median? Well, they were in the streets literally. We drove past Westgate Lakes and saw all of the trees in half. Large trees were in the parking lots of businesses. Lots of people were in the streets more than usual. It was unbelievable. Lots of stores were out of power, so we were a little surprised to find Don Pablos had power. While we wanted to be seated, I went next door to the Welcome Center and overheard many people trying to find hotels in the area with power. Wow, I just realized how lucky were. The last two summers we stayed at Westgate I believe didnt have power!!!
I head back to Don Pablos and we all order a little of everything. I dont know why, but it wasnt nearly as good as I remembered. Maybe its because Ive had lots of Mexican food to compare it to, I dont know, it just wasnt the same. Although David and I ordered lots of food our bill was like $40.
We left Don Pablos and headed to the SuperWalmart on S. Kirkman (apparently the Wal-Mart on 192 was closed due to no power). The Wal-Mart was crowded, but not as bad as it was the other day. Tammy was craving get ready people- Birthday Cake!!! She heads to the Bakery. I head to the DVD area. I was looking for a DVD season to buy for our long trip home. I wanted CSI, but spending $68 today wasnt working for me, so I went with the Second Season of Will & Grace. After an hour of Wal-Mart we headed back to the house. Its now about 9pm. David and I were turning into Formosa Garden, when something hit me. I say, David, do you have the key? He says, No, I thought you had it! We pull up to the house and I ask if anyone picked up the keys. Their responses, NO!
Of course we locked the front door, and the door in the garage going into the house. David goes on the right side of the house to find the gate locked, so I head to front desk to see if security has extra keys. The guy at Security lets me in his little office and called VillaDirect to if someone will come to unlock the door. Of course its closed so I leave a number on VillaDirects emergency line and we should hear from them soon yeah right!! The security guy tells me this happens all the time and my best bet is to call a locksmith. He gives me several numbers that service this area and I head back to the house. The boys are in full criminal mode. James is taking the screens off windows, contemplating climbing on a car so he can get on the roof to see if the window is open upstairs. David had a screwdriver trying to unlock the doors, and Chris is calling a locksmith (whose number is on the garage door). Chris finally got a locksmith and they are on their way. Then it hits me. Im not paying for a locksmith by myself. The security guy already told me it could cost as much as $200. David and I are not paying that alone. Im sorry, we all left together!!! We should be responsible together!!! We will sit out here until housekeeping comes are my thoughts. After about 40 minutes of this James says lets try the back again. This time David, James, and I tried the left side. James is stopped as he walked thru a spider web that was (according to him) thick as leather! With a little light from the neighbors (who were swimming and we frightened) David opens the door Tadaah!!!! It opened!!! David slowly walks toward the patio door and reached for the handle. I closed my eyes, tighten my fist, and hold my breath. Thank goodness it opened!!! We just wasted an hour Can U believe??? We spend the evening watching Will & Grace, eating cupcakes (no birthday cake was found) and discuss next years vacation!!!!! Vegas and Disneyland here we come!!!!!!!!!!!
Up next Fights over gas, tire blowouts, and bitter sweetness!!!! Day 10
Day 11 and 12
