So if you were auditioning for Miss Hannigan in Annie, what song would you choose? I am looking for something that shows her nasty side. Just thought I would throw it out to my fellow Broadway fanatic Dissers! PS... This, of course, is at the community theatre level :)

No advice...but I am SUPREMELY jealous!!! Miss Hannigan is my dream role!

How about Mme Thenardier from Les Miz? "I used to dream that I would meet a prince..." She's one of my favorite characters to sing (as much as I "sing!")

Queen Colleen

DO NOT SING FROM DISNEY.

Directors LAUGH and not in a good way.

"The Wages of Sin" from The Mystery of Edwin Drood is a good one.

I thought of that one too, but I wasn't sure if her solo lines would be long enough.

Dd14's voice coach told her to let her friends know this as well.

My daughter just finished a run of Annie (she was an orphan) on the community level and I love Miss Hannigan. What a fun role. What about Little Girls from the show? Good luck and break a leg!
:)

How long do you need?

What about "The Waltz Of Treachery"? I think her solo bit in that is longer (and, could you possibly also sing the verse that she sings with her husband - they sing together, so it isn't like you'd be having missing bits).

what about Just One Step from Songs for a New World. There is another one that is good but I cannot find the name of it.. Let me see if I can find it!

Thanks for all the great suggestions everyone. I love ALL those songs! Just One Step is so much fun and who doesn't love all things Les Mis! 'Wages of Sin' is good too. I had never heard of it until last week when I was browsing through some music books. Of course I adore 'Defying Gravity' but would do it a grave disservice by warbling it out. I ain't no Idina Menzel thats for dang sure! Despite being Disney, I do like the idea of 'Poor Unfortunate Souls' cause it does show an 'eeevil' side to the character. The music I have for it actually goes a bit too high for my comfort tho' (believe it or not) but I could sing it down an octave. I am pretty comfy in the alto range. No matter what I sing... I HATE AUDITIONS!!!! :rotfl: But then, does anyone like them?

I hate auditions also!!! I freeze up when I sing!

I like auditions, but I haven't had one in 4 years! I haven't done anything but church and friends' weddings since I became a mom.

You probably don't want to sing it down an octave, but you could change the key. What key do you have it in?

What about "Some People" from Gypsy or "When You're Good to Mama" from Chicago??? Not evil per se, but good if you're looking for a belting song with attitude. Break a leg!:goodvibes

If you can get a hold of it "Sensitivity" from Once Upon a Mattress. The queen sings it. Great song and good for the roll. Break a leg!

I would NOT do Disney and NOT do anything from Annie.

If you put the attitude of deceit in that the show has it sung with, I think Spread a Little Sunshine from Pippin might be good.

These were my exact suggestions. I coach professional teen performers in NYC and if one of them came to me I would definitely suggest these songs.

Also, there is a song from Thoroughly Modern Millie that Mrs. Meers sings I think its called "What They Don't Know". That could be really fun. They are similar characters with similar vocal ranges.

Break a leg! I hope you get the role!
