audit for 17 year old?tax return of a little 56.00 dollars?

why in the world would they audit 17 year old girl (now 18) taxes? we looked up to see why she hasnt got her little 56. dollars and it said they were holding it for an acutal person to aduit it ??

If you went through a firm or another preparer that has been flagged, it's my understanding they will hold all of them from that preparer.... but you got yours back. Hmm...

Did she waitress? Are the tips in suspicion? Really wierd.

One day I hope to work for the IRS. Hey my parents gave me the Biblical name of Matthew and I've gotta live up to it.

To my understanding the audit process is automated. If enough red flags are raised, yours can be chosen. My guess is that this is computerized though I am not sure. It is a very secretive process as obviously they don't want people to know what will make you get audited as then the real crooks would find ways around it. As long as you have kept good records and provide the information they request you should have no problems, unless there is a mistake. Good luck I hope it all turns out fine.
