Fair enough - you wouldn't get my husband in AdC unless it was about 5 Euros a head, but dtr and I have eaten there twice and I actually loved the food. I don't often get to eat foie gras and veal, so it was a nice change. Although dtr is 10 (and knows the secret about them not being the REAL Cinderella etc) she really enjoyed the experience.
Neither of us has ever been even curious about BBWWS. Still, as my dear old Nan would say, "it wouldn't do for us all to be the same. What a boring world it would be" (I think everybody's Gran says something like that.)

May be the boys vs girls thing. It's like I prefer the theme of the Sequoia Lodge to the DLH (but love the service and location of the DLH).

Love veal, it's also on the menu at the DLH, Steakhouse, and sometimes the yacht club much cheaper. Also a little grumpy because AdC used to be one of our fav places and with the a la carte, you could choose what you wanted and how much you wanted to spend.

Still, this is better than another blooming buffet!!!!!

Yes they may be girls dressed in fancy dress but my DD believes that they are the princesses and who am i to take that away from her.

Agreed. My gripe is the cost compared to other character meals, shows and fine dining experience. But no doubt, the magic is cool for those that get a buzz out of it. My kids just don't get it with the humans (but they do with the rubber heads)

Personally, I'd love to see a combination of the two things here. I think it's wonderful that they provide a restaurant where children (mainly girls, but I suspect some boys like the princes / princesses as well) can dine with the people characters rather than just the animal ones. The character meals provide a great experience IMO because you get some private time with the characters and do not have to fight for your autograph and photos like you do in the park. However, I'd love to see this done with an a la carte menu available, rather than the quite strict set menu they have now.

I've mentioned before that this is what puts me off of AdC is the fact that I'm very selective in what I eat and almost nothing on the AdC menu appeals to me - especially the starter. If it was a la carte and I could choose just a main and a dessert for less money, or even just a main, or for that matter choose 3 courses from a good set of options then I'd think about going.

But personally I do not want to see a proliferation of (cheap) characters at the expense of skilled live entertainers.

If we can have both (like in California) than I am as happy as a clam.

agreed UKSTITCH. And yes, the character meals are much better than the scrum at the meet and greets, by far. What would be nice is if they did more character meals at lunchtime in the hotels, leaving the highly themed eateries without (or like in the old days when the characters might just surprise you).

I do think the sparsness of the menu lets Auberge down, but then again they have an awful lot of covers to get through in a short time - it isn't the same as for example a 4* restaurant in London where people actively want to spend 2 hours or more over a leisurely lunch. We've spent 2 hours in there but looking around a lot of people only spend an hour, so we are talking about all of the tables getting 2 sittings in a 3 hr period, and some of them getting 3 sittings. With that kind of footfall I just don't think an extensive menu is possible, sadly.

Never used to stop them when they used to offer about 5 starters and 6 -7 entrees for it's first 13 years.

That is what puts us off the Auberge- The lack of choice. I think for the price you're paying there should be a little more choice. Even a while ago there used to be a choice of around 3 starters, didn't there? I also think they should re-introduce the slipper as an adult dessert- It seems the one dessert everyone wants and yet DLRP refuse to sell!!

I'm new to Disney so can't really comment 'on the old days'. We are going first and foremost for our DD1 to see the Princesses (so Disney must have something right for some people as this is our main reason for going for her and this restaurant sounds ideal to us - less scrum as others have said) and I realise she may not get to see them in the parks (depending on events etc) so I'm booking for that reason. I don't like the look too much of the food but I'm not sure when we'll get again and I know this will make her trip! It's blooming expensive though but hey - she's only 3.5 years once!

BTW I don't suppose she'll eat anything either! :rotfl:

:thumbsup2 I don't think my DD who will be 2years 11 months will eat the food either but oh well :rotfl:

Last time we went, this family at the table next to us (2 adults and 2 quite small children) were obviously there only for the character intervention. The starter came and the mum and dad ate so little that I was tempted to lean across and ask if I could have their pate/chutney/bread. :lmao: The main course was barely touched either. They didn't seem to mind - I think they had decided before they went in that they wouldn't bother with the food. There I was, shovelling it all in and loving it.

I was there yesterday 13th Aug with my DD aged 6. She still totally believes that the princesses are all real. Cinderella was not there. Belle was doing the meet & greet & photo bit. We also had Perla, Suzy, Princess Minnie, Fairy Godmother (who I think should be played by an older CM - she always struck me as a granny aged character), Ariel & Prince Eric. All the characters were lovely & in particular the Fairy Godmother who is now DD's favourite character.

About the food. I personally loved the adult menu, but then it appealed to me. I think the children's menu is very limited. DD didn't eat any starter & now the chicken option has been removed from the menu, she wasn't very fussed on the beef one.

DH usually goes to this restaurant with DD because he also likes the princesses! and he likes to avail of the wine served, but I just stuck to the water.

When did the children's option change? Could you tell me what the beef option is - we're eating there in a couple of weeks.

Strange not to have Cinderella in Cinderella's restaurant, but DD would love to see Belle there, and Princess Minnie and the Fairy Godmother, what a great selection!
I'm with you, swapping chicken for beef on a children's menu seems like madness.

The menu says something like "ground beef in its own juice served with potato and veg". When it comes it looks like a large thin burger & is a bit pink in the middle. The potato was about the size of half a potato & the veg was brocolli, carrot, peas in their pods. Nicole didn't eat too much of hers. I don't know when the option changed, but I wish they would change it back!

I like the sound of that meal personally. If you don't like the meat being pink you can ask them to cook it for longer.:thumbsup2 We learnt that on our first trip there.

I'm going with the notion that DD1 will eat v little and then I won't get stressed!

She'll be beside herself if Cinderella isn't there :( I told DH off the other night as he said she was going to see Cinderella - I'm so anxious not to build her little hopes up!!

Of course she loves all the Princesses but Cinders is her absolute fave!!

PS - I wouldn't eat pink meat let alone my DD1 - I like my meat cremated :rotfl: I hope burgers etc are all well done as I know how the French have a penchant for blue stuff!

I'm like you - I don't like my meat pink if I can avoid it. I don't now about burgers, but when I went last month, I had 2 steaks while I was away - one in Cafe Mickey and one in Walts. Both were ordered "well done" and both came out as I was expecting - "British well done". If they don't offer you a choice in how you want it cooked, then I would expect pink because that seems to be how steak "should" be cooked, both in France and other places (Uk included in fact).

Maybe somebody can advise whether you get that choice with the child's menu at Auberge. If not, then I'd personally expect it pink (medium or so).

Don't worry to those who wants to meet Belle or Cinderella.
Belle is in the restaurant everyday for the lunch or dinner
And Cinderella is in the entrance of the restaurant. And if you're lucky, you'll meet her Ugly Stepsisters and her Wicked Stepmother outside the Auberge.

You can also meet Mickey and Minnie in theirs Royals outfits, Fairy GodMother, Suzy and Perla, Aurora and Prince Philipp,Snow White and the Prince, Ariel and Prince Eric!

Well i hope that isnt just for the Summer season as im not going for another 4 weeks and 6 days :lmao:
