Attractions going away

It seems the Poly waterfalls (not really fountains) are a done deal. I've heard that one from lots of sources.

The others are new for me.

http://q104.cbslocal.com/2014/05/08/5-walt-disney-world-attractions-that-are-going-away/#.U2zo0DVQsjt.facebook I wonder if there is any truth to this? 1. Great Hollywood ride 2. Fountains at Poly 3. Soarin over Cali (being replaced by local flight) 4. Captain So 5. Malestrom

1. Hasn't been announced but wouldn't be surprised
2. Already announced
3. It's pretty well-known that they've been recording the new film
4. It was also supposed to be a limited-time run
5. The rumor is that it is getting a Frozen overlay

Oh please not The Great Movie Ride!!!! :worship: It just needs to be refurbed / updated! ....And not Maelstrom either!

Please only be rumors....:scared:

I doubt the rumor about Maelstrom. Usually no movie tie in on the country attractions.

Did anyone read the comments on the original article?

Someone claiming to be a GMR CM says the ride is not going away. They then go on to say that Star Wars is NOT coming to DHS but Carsland might.

It funny that all the insiders say the exact opposite.

We are big fans of Malestrom and the Great Hollywood Ride but I could see how they would possibly want to update them....I hope not, but I will be making sure we ride both a couple of times on this upcoming trip just in case.

Usually, yes. But I've heard Norway (the real country) is thrilled with the positive publicity the movie has given them, so they might be willing to allow characters. Mexico does have the Three Caballeros after all.

Norway has no say in it. They haven't sponsored the pavilion in over 10 years.

There's a ton of pushback on the Poly fountain, I can see that idea being reworked.

And from what iv'e inquired, Soarin is supposed to be a global ride rather than California. They are already working on footage.

Maelstrom and Great movie I doubt, especially maelstrom. Unless they add a Disney twist to it like they did with Mexico's ride.

1. Eventually. Not any time soon. I would think that a "re-imagining" would come long before the wrecking ball.

2. Gone.

3. This is a sure thing. Disney is already working on the replacement film. It is a stretch to call this an "Endangered" ride. It will be reworked, not removed.

4. Likely. The film was brought back as a placeholer until they could find a replacement for HISTA. But financial cutbacks held back the reworking of that area and we have been stuck with the placeholder for far too long. Eventually, C-EO will disappear.

5. Seems good on paper. But a Frozen attraction is likely to be far too popular to be contained within the bounds of Norway. Crowd control would be a problem. Maelstrom, such as it is, often spills out into the middle of the courtyard. Imagine what a Frozen ride would do to that area. I see Frozen in the MK's future. Or maybe even at DHS replacing Under the Sea. (Why keep that open when they built a whole new LM attraction at the MK?) If I had to lay odds, I'd say that you will see a stage show at DHS or an indoor show where Under the Sea is now.

1. If they get rid of my precious Great Movie Ride, I will be absolutely heartbroken.

2. The waterfalls going away was announced a while ago. And I am not happy about that. I really think that they are crucial to the atmosphere. I'm hoping that they can come up with something great to take its place if they insist on getting rid of it. Honestly, though, I'm hoping that they change their mind.

3. I like the idea of changing it to more of a Soarin' Over the USA, personally. You can fly over the orange groves of Florida, the cattle ranches and oil fields of Texas, Grand Canyon, Old Faithful, Martha's Vineyard, and other places in America. I think that would be great.

4. It needs to go. Let's hope this one is true.

5. That rumor about Maelstrom changing to a Frozen themed ride was floating around when I was there in January and February of this year. Some cast member thought that it was a done deal, others encouraged us to talk to Guest Relations and let them know that we didn't care for the idea, and others thought that there was no substance to it. I worry, though. I love Maelstrom exactly how it is. I loved it as a child and my four-year-old loves it now. I like that it has something to do with Norway and don't like the idea of it taking place in fictional Arendale.

Norway has no say in it. They haven't sponsored the pavilion in over 10 years.

This is true. Disney does not have a good relationship with Norway and has threatened to strip the flag for years. They want to cash in on Frozen and Norway was the base of that so it makes sense, just don't think the world showcase makes sense for it.

Could you imagine the horrible traffic jam again in Norway if a Frozen ride opened? Blech! I must be the only person in the world who thought the movie just wasn't that great. I would definitely put it on the bottom of the heap as far as Disney films are concerned.

Don't know the answer to any other than that changes to Poly were announced before, but: (a) Great Movie Ride is truly antiquated with too many movies and actors, both in the ride through and at the end movie, that even many of the adults, not just kids, now attending don't know; (b) I can't imagine replacing Soarin with a "local flight." What would that consist of? Flying over sink holes, swamps, golf courses and the 20,000 man made lakes surrounded by condominiums?; (e) every time we go, attendance at Captain EO keeps getting lighter and lighter; nevertheless they really need to do something about the whole Imagination pavilion and before dealing with that, shouldn't they first do something with the Wonders of Life pavilion?

The only one of these changes that would bother me is Maelstrom. I love that ride. It's one of those old familiars, kind of like that favorite pair of old shoes that you know are outdated but you love them just the way they are. Hope the powers that be listen to the majority on this one.
