Attraction effects Disney installed but doesn't use ( w/pics if possible )

Oh and how about this one. Its a house in Frontierland that you can see if you take the Liberty Belle Riverboat. It used to be on fire constantly ( but never actually burned obviously ), but supposedly it was too costly too keep up, so now its just a charred house. Here you can see the flames of what once was:

I actually have a photo of this somewhere at home... I'll have to find it and post it!

OMG - we thought we must have imagined this! DH & I were at DL in 1990 and had this happen. I totally freaked out because the suit of armor kind of stepped out suddenly and swung at me. I was like "but what if I'd been sitting up more or had my arm up or something - it would have smashed right into me!" We realized later that it was actually an actor, not an animatronic, so they could see what they were doing, but it really worried me then!

haha...a few times when my friends and i were on cast members still in the HM costume (not in armor) would wander around the ride and knock on the back of our cars or jump out and scare us... LOL

Great thread :thumbsup2

Up until the Pirates of the Caribbean ride was redone with the movie characters, there used to be a small hill that you would fall down (like a much smaller version of Splash Mountain). I used to LOVE that part when I was little and was extremely disappointed the last time I went to MK to find out it wasn't there anymore . I could have sworn that the drop in the Norway ride used to be bigger too.

As for other things I miss, I'm really mad about the changes with the Figment ride (especially the downplaying of the Imagination song). There used to be a lot of fun stuff at the end of the ride too for kids like the paintbrush thing on the ceiling which someone else already mentioned. I also miss the Horizons ride (especially the smell of the oranges) as well as the World of Motion and the "Tomorrow's Child" song that they used to play in Spaceship Earth. I also remember all the old scuba diving suits that they used to have on display at the Living Seas ride, and who else remembers the hydrolators??? Oh, and I can't forget the Dreamflight ride at MK!!! Man, I loved that one. For someone like me who grew up going to Disney World all the time, these weren't welcome changes :sad2:. I feel like Epcot in particular used to be a lot more educational, but they took most of those elements away. I think it's really sad, but I still love Disney.

I agree with many of yours. Although to me, it will always be "If you had wings". I can still sing the song for you. And speaking of songs, I can't go to Carousel of Progress without singing the "Now is the Time" song. Yeah, I know "Great Big Beautiful Tomorrow" is the true original, but grew up with the other one and always want that one back instead. And how about "Listen to the Land" - again I tend to still sing that (under my breath to my DH), whenever we ride the Land boat ride! And the old "Universe of Energy" song! Man - I miss all of the old songs!

The drop is still there. That's the point where the ride goes under the Train tracks. If it didn't, you would end up in the tunnel just before Splash Mountain.

Earlier discussions about Spaceship Earth. What about the guy in the Mastodon scene that, while everyone else is throwing rocks or spears at the beast, he is throwing rocks about 40 yards behind.

The Boss caught this last time we road. It's very strange.

Well I guess I should have specified that there was a tiny hill, but it was significantly smaller than normal. I'm a Disney veteran so I definitely noticed it right away (the hill used to be so big that it could give you a serious case of butterflies). It's also interesting that I didn't notice it until after the renovations were done so I wonder if it's more than just a coincidence. I wouldn't at all be surprised if while revamping the ride, they made the hill smaller too. Maybe it was scaring the little kids? who knows. lol But something is different, that's for sure.

To the previous poster, thanks for reminding me about the Listen to the Land song. How could I have forgotten that one! It has always been my dad's favorite. He used to sing it around the house all the darn time lol. I used to enjoy having lunch at the Garden Grill and looking at the ride below. I remember that they used to serve the butter in the shape of Mickey Mouse. I wonder if they still do that. I would love to buy a CD with all the old songs on it though.

1-Still the same.

2-The Epcot restaurants all used to have that.
They stopped serving stand-up Mickey-shaped butter, I'd guess, over 15 years ago.

How about this one? This is also at the GMR. The first few years that MGM was open, your cars would split into two parts with your own tour guide. The first two would go through the gangster scene where your car was hijacked by the gangster. The last two cars would stay behind and have that experience. The first two would pass through to the wild west scene where the bank was being robbed and that robber would hijack the car. You can see the fire damage to the bank in the corner around the windows are all scorched because someone shoots or blows up the bank and it catches fire. I remember it very well because the heat from the fire was intense.

Maybe they stopped it because of the heat or they only do it when the crowds get really huge.

If anyone out there knows the reason why they stopped the bank robbery part and/or if anyone out there remembers it like me please be sure to answer.

Okay, maybe I do have "Mad Cow". But I swear this still goes on.:confused3

Isn't there a wave machine at the Poly in the lagoon that was never used? I thought it was installed with thoughts of surfing. I know I read that somewhere.

The equipment is still off of the shore line. They quick using it because it was eroding the beach.

Same here, I thought I just saw the gangster scene last year...I think this was explained earlier in this thread or on another thread, that both scenes run when they have the crowds to do it. I know Robo has the official answer posted somewhere...;)

I may be confusing Disney with something else- but was there ever a time that Disney World had live alligators in MK? Like back in the late 70's maybe?

sorry wrong thread. supposed to be on the one with old disney attractions.

A long time ago in a land far far away, Fort Wilderness, there used to be a steam train that ran from the check in area to the other end of the campgrounds. The trains were discontinued due to maintenance costs, but some of the rail bed is now used as walkways.

I thought I remembered this too from the 70's - but I may be thinking of Busch Gardens (if they even had them).

do they still have the talking trash cans in Tomorrowland and the talking water fountain in Epcot/Future World?

The GMR still runs both scenes. I originally was under the impression that they only did the bank scene when it was busy, but when we were there in November last year the ride was a walk on and the park was empty and we got the bank scene.

On Dinosaur (Countdown to Extinction...as it will always be for me), the teradactyl is actually supposed to fly towards you... It worked for about a month when the ride first opened then was locked down because there were too many issues with it, so you see it there, as you go under it, but it does not actually fly towards you!

Ack! As if Dinosaur isn't scary enough as it is :scared1:

When we went i noticed a few things "down"

1 Honey i shrunk the audience~ in the beginning where wayne is one that flying craft & the fan blades lean towards the audience....no wind effect

2 Muppets 3d~ when the creature they created turns into a car & zooms off with Bean there used to be smoke out the side of the curtain~ no smoke

ITA that the backstage tour is LAME compared to what it was in the early 90s

i wish Disney would also stil do that Beastly Kingdom~ what kid doesnt imagine dragons & unicorns!
