Attraction effects Disney installed but doesn't use ( w/pics if possible )

I was at dinner tonight and thought about something else!!!!

Does anyone remember "Snow Whites Scary Adventures" as you are waiting in line, you could see the Queen... there use to be a window in the front of the attraction where the Evil Queen would peer out.. I think there was a curtain that would open and close and behind it in the window was The Evil Queen???

am I right?? Must have been a long time ago. I told my sister and she said she doesnt remember.

I wonder if it was there and then removed when they did the story update and rehab a while ago.

I didnt even realize they did an update.. it must have been a while ago, like you say.. otherwise I might have remembered.

My sister was telling us about the time she took my niece when she was 3... and she wanted to ride SWSA over and over.. and then had nightmares about it... poor kid! It is kind of creepy. Thats when I remembered about the evil queen. In fact, I remember going back after several years and looking for her at the attraction and it wasnt there. wondering what happened?

maybe Im completely losing my mind... lol

This appears in a second story window, as she peeks out through parted window drapes. I remember it clearly...but can't be sure if this is MK or DL. :confused3 I think DL.

She is there in DL...I thought it was so cool!!

Never saw her at MK though. :confused3

I may be mis-remembering but... I seem to remember a time on PotC when the pirates chased the women in circles, the auction was more lewd, there was a lot more rum drinking and flames. It seems that the refurb has "cleaned up" the story, and reversed the skirt-chasing scenario. Now the women chase the men with brooms, and there is almost no drinking and no fire.

At EPCOT, I really miss the Wonders of Life Pavilion. I have great memories of the exciting Body Wars ride with Elizabeth Shue, and the funny film/exhibit of a day as seen through the eyes of a 13 year old boy.

I may be remembering wrong, but when I was there in 84 POTC had both chasing scenes. When the pirates were pilfering (sp) the town the pirates were chasing the women, later on after the pirates got the women, the women were chasing the pirates. My DW and I thought it was quite funny.

Yes, I remember this too!

And I remember the 'birdhouses' on the ride and in the line area used to have 'chipmunk' sounds coming out of them. :confused3
They actually still do...it's just most people don't get to pass by them anymore. I waited on line recently and they were playing.
But Ive never been to DL only WDW's MK hmmmm.

why do I recall this, I could of swore it was at WDW-FL?
From pictures perhaps? WDW never had this effect - if you'll notice, the whole of the original FL fronts were designed like carnivals. Peter Pan, Small World, Pooh (nee Mr. Toads) all have the tent-like coverings, as did Snow White. It's never had room for that special effect, the way the specialized building at DL does.

Could this be what you are remembering? Before the referb, at the very last seen where the witch is pushing the bolder with a stick - she used to be behind a window, and when you were under it, the window would fling open and she would pop out.

The pitch of the drop at Pirates is the same, they didn't mess with the ride conveyance system. They made have slowed it down.

I loved Cranium Command at the Wonders of Life Pavillion at Epcot!

The Evil Queen peers out over Fantasyland at DL, I don't remember ever seeing her at WDW's Fantastyland.

I do remember the Jeep, live CMs, and Lil Red at KS, but I never saw dead Big Red, she must have been removed quick.

I've seen the live CMs at RNRC, but that was a long time ago. I've never noticed a Hidden Mickey with the cords, I'll have to look for that next time. I also remember some headlights and watch for oncoming traffic at RNRC.

LBJ driving the truck at Test Track cracks me up everytime, I think he is wearing sunglasses and a lei.

I've seen the hefflelumps with and without smoke at Winnie the Pooh. I love the smoke rings.

I hope they do something interesting with the queue at Space Mountain, the product promos were cute.

I never saw the bird at EE or rode the Discovery Island boats.

I've been lucky enough to see the cowboy scene at the GMR and I do remember the ladies turning and rainfall in the Busby Berkley scene, don't they do bubbles there now?

The mouse on top of the teapot is still functional over at the teacups.

Something that I can never catch "working" is Donald's Boat.

The ride with the most unused effects is by far the Backlot.

I also didn't know they stopped doing the jet ski stunt at LMA, I didn't catch the show my last two trips.

You're right.

That effect was there, back in the day... after the ride vehicles left the Dispatch area, they'd roll around a wishing well, while the Queen looked down on the riders from the castle before they entered it (and left the view of Guests in the queue). The effect was removed during a 1994 refurbishment due to guest complaints that the attraction was too scary for small children (apparently, the fact that the ride had SCARY in the name and warning signs around the attraction wasn't enough for some Guests) and to add the character of Snow White to the attraction. Originally, she didn't appear in the ride; the idea was that you were Snow White -- a subtlety lost on most guests.

Thank you!!! yes, that explains it. I have never seen pictures or video of DL's attraction.. so i knew I had to remember this somehow other than just reading about it...

It could have been my high school senior trip - the last time I remember seeing this.. that was in *coughs* 1987. long time ago....

I had a feeling it may have been too scary for small children. I wish they would have kept it the way it was :sad2:

I wish someone had a video of the old attraction with the queen. from wdw.

When did this happen? I was there two weeks ago and no mist. ????

I was there 4/7-4/13 and the mist was working. My daughter even commented on being able to feel it as we went through it. We always rode it very early in the morning. I don't know if that makes a difference or not.:confused3

Hey Becca - I found you!

The queen is still there, but now instead of her staring down at the que, she is staring down at Snow White in the opening wishing well scene.

Thanks for posting! Very cool. I'm gona ride it this time and see for myself.

Thanks again!

didn't you used to be able to eat on a second floor in Pinochio's Haus?

It's still there!

You enter from the outside of the Haus, using a stairway on the Dumbo side of the building.

There's a way up from the inside, too, but it's not very obvious. We usually go upstairs, then out onto the balcony to eat. Tiny tables, and it's hard to open the doors to get in and out, but a fun view.

I miss the original Discovery Island. I went there in 1993 for my college spring break. It was an aviary and nature walk. We walked through elevated platforms in the trees. I have lots of great pictures of brightly plumed birds. What are they doing with the island now?

It is shut down, defunct and abandoned. Overgrown back to natural state, there is no permitted access. Opening AK pretty well displaced it's need.

The jeep attack isn't used due to malfunctions that the engineers cannot seem to be able to fix. Something with the sensors that are supposed to trigger the effect not working right. One of the times I rode it on my last trip there were the gun shots and the sound of the jeep but the jeep didn't race by the other times nothing happened there.

Yes, there is a wave machine offshore of the Poly. Running it caused a LOT of erosion of the beach so they shut it down permantly and have just let it rust out there.

Another effect that isn't used often isn't really an effect so much. It is the Sword in the Stone by Cinderella's Golden Carrousel. There used to be a show with Merlin where kids would be called up to try to pull the sword from the stone. A luck kid would and would win a prize. I understand that every so often the sword can be pulled and sometimes the lucky person wins a prize.

hahaha I just found this thread and I am making my way through.
Just wanted to say that bout.. 4-5 years ago I was chosen to go and pull the sword out :D
I got a um.. medal that said Happiest place on earth, with a pic of the castle on one side, and a pic from Sword in the stone on the other side. I also got a certificate.
I was treated like the "Princess", so to speak, of disneyland for the rest of that day, i.e. I was bumped to the front of the line with my parents, called your majesty by CMs etc.
:goodvibes
