Disney has once again fixed the mist on top of Everest! Someone posted a small video of it last week: http://www.flickr.com/photos/disneydena/2498686955/

Anyone remember when they actually had CMs IN the HM ride. There is an article on Doombuggies.com that talks about a suit of armor, but I seem to remember being scared by what my mom called "the phantom of the opera." Just recently, I saw video of the original figure they were going to use for the hatbox ghost, and I REALLY remember the CM (at DL) wearing this costume, complete with cape, top hat, and head. Does ANYONE else remember this, so that I don't feel like I'm crazy? Or at least, does anyone remember being scared by the suit of armor?
The last few times I've ridden POTC the Davey Jones Mist effect has not been on. Not sure if they've stopped using it, or if it just breaks a lot.

Oh and how about this one. Its a house in Frontierland that you can see if you take the Liberty Belle Riverboat. It used to be on fire constantly ( but never actually burned obviously ), but supposedly it was too costly too keep up, so now its just a charred house. Here you can see the flames of what once was:

Yes I remember this the effect was originally going to be used for a land called beastly kingdom. It was to have dragons and unicorns and other mythical animals in it. This was never developed but they left the effect in for the first few years that the park was open. You could see it from the Discovery River Boats that no longer run anymore. There was also a dragon that was made of rocks that would spit fire and water. We maybe talking about the same thing. Hoped this helped you.Does anyone else remember the fire breathing dragon (ok it was more like flames coming out of a cave) to the right off the bridge in AK crossing over into Camp Minnie Mickey? I remember DS being mesmerized by this around 1999-2000 - then after that it seemed to be gone & we've never seen it again.

curious how i can do a backstage tour of the rides? i have seen people talk about it and was curiousNo, those boulders are still there and still work -- just not terribly well (or so I'm told by a friend who works there). Funny you should mention BTMR, though... as you crest that very hill, if you look immediately to the sides as you exit, you'll see two massive barn-style doors on either side. Originally, those doors were closed, and would swing open as the train approached. The problem: they didn't always open in time, and the ride would shut down. So management had them permanently welded open.
I know that at the Haunted Mansion there used to be a fog machine that would release a cloud of fog when the front doors were opened. However, complaints by an asthmatic CM caused them to disconnect the device. After the CM left the company it was never reactivated (sidebar: I actually saw the fog machine myself while on a backstage tour of the HM).
