How many of you actually forgo the grocery stop and opt for the resort grocery order in room upon arrival option??

I know it seems stupid to pay those prices--but for convenience is it worth it??

I'm particularly looking at 5.85 for a 6 pack of soda. But here's the thing. We are going for a short 4 nite stay in BWV studio in December and I know we won't be eating ANY meals in the studio.
Also won't be arriving till 6pm on Sun nite and don't want to waste any time at the grocery store. WDW time is precious!! If we didn't have any access to refrid. ie.. regular hotel room we would be paying even more than $1 for a soda anyway.

Anyone have thoughts on this?? Just something fun to consider.

Just wondering how many of you actually use the resort grocery!
Thanks

Maybe for a short trip with no car, but we usually take a week or longer trip, so time isn't so precious. It only takes less than an hour to shop on the way from the airport

If you have a car but don't want to do a full grocery shop, the gas station by DD (on Buena Vista -- still in Disney) has a pretty well-stocked mini-mart. It's been awhile, but their prices were actually quite a bit less than what they charged in the resort store -- splitting the difference between cost and time saved vs. a big store. I agree that on a short stay you are still paying "less" than you would say buying from a machine.

I think it depends on how much the convience is worth to you.

After our first trip home, with a large grocery stop, the hassle of a different market and a lot of wasted groceries, I've decided our next trip will not involve a grocery stop. If netgrocer is still available, we will use that for the non-refrigerated stuff (like your pop). The prices with netgrocer aren't too bad. Goodings will deliver - but its a $50 minimum (not difficult with Goodings prices) and a $10 delivery charge. Eggs, milk, half and half were all reasonable at the Disney store - or at least the $5 total premium we will pay isn't worth the hassle of saving it via a grocery stop.

We used the resort grocery for more half and half, eggs, cheese, coffee (ran out of decaf).

Guess I'm cheap. Even on a Sun-Wed solo trip I did a grocery stop. I do though carry snacks and drinks in my backpack for the kids and myself. $1.00 for a 3/$1 juice box burns me not to mention the time on line. I think I save enough for a character meal this way.

JMHO,
Sandy

BTW, I never do Disney without a car - patience isn't one of my virtues.

What we do with our trips to WDW and our time is presious to us. We pre-order our grocerys from Albertsons on Orange Blossom the day prior and it will take us 15 mintues or less to pick them up. They already have your grocerys bagged and rung up. We love it and will continue to use them.

Use netgrocer - no stops at a market, no rip-off prices. They even have milk! I have used them for our last four trips and will never set foot in a market again while on vacation.

If its just for snacks & juice boxes, I buy at home and mail them down ahead of me to the resort. For short trips, it works great - saves on time & cost of postage is reasonable. Then when you get there, you only have to buck up for the milk & refrigerated stuff. Its not so painful bucking up for one or two perishable items for the room.

It's better than 2.50 a bottle, you don't have to walk all the way over to roaring forks to fill up your mug, and it's a lot more convenient than going to the grocery store. You're on vacation, make life easy.

Minybear,

I am new to this and never heard of doing it this way. Is there an extra charge? Do you order through a web site? Is Orange Blossom close to WDW? I am unfamiliar with the street names.

Thanks for any extra info on this.

Hi DIZZNY

There is no charge to this service:). Apparently LOTS of WDW guests do this (due to they get at least 6-8 orders daily). Orange Blossum is a street name and its on the way to WDW. What we do is tell our limo driver that we are going to Albertsons (we prearrange this) and they drive up and let us out and they are so surprised when we come out less then 15 minutes with our groceries. What Albertsons ask you to do is a day or 2 prior to your arrival date fax them your grocery list and tell them which limo company is taking you there (if you are driving just let them know that also).

Here is the address and fax number and all the info you need.

I'm not DIZZNY, but can you tell me, do you need to know the exact brands and such. I mean can I just fax down a list that says case of water 12 or 16 oz bottles or 1 gallon of skim milk or
1 dozen eggs...etc, You know what I mean or do I need sku #s.
I really want to do this for saturday and with 3 kids under 6 in tow, this could be a life saver.

Thanks

This is our list. At times I have the brand names and at times I don't. I go to our near by Albertsons and see what they have (do my shopping at home) and then make my list. If you see my list I put down Fridays Mozorella sticks. Apparently they didn't have that brand so they subsituted it for another brand.

Thanks glad I could help :teeth:. It's great to help another DVCer :hyper: with their WDW trip.

We almost always buy from the resort store, but have stopped on the way for groceries. We are snack people only and we find that we buy too much and wind up stuffing ourselves or not eating everything that we buy. So the resort is better for us since we buy as needed or are in the mood for and don't wind up wasting food/snacks.

I would NEVER make a grocery stop for just a six pack of soda. I don't drink soda so I don't know how much it costs at the grocery store, but say it's less than half the price of the soda at the convenience store... say you save $3 on the soda. Say the grocery stop takes you a half hour between getting there, finding what you want, waiting in line etc. I don't know about you but my vacation is worth way more than $6/hr.

If I were stocking up I'd think about it but not for a six pack of soda.

Thanks Minybear, I can't wait to do this next trip. One quick question - do they sell wine? It is ver y conv. for us to shop at Publix and get everything.

Thanks again for this terrific tip!
Sandy
