Soooo..DH finally said he's ready to buy a trailer!!!!!!! YAY!! Been waiting for this for 2 years.. Anyhooo...so we are looking for 26 - 29 foot,1 slide out and would prefer to sleep 6 . Must be lite as we have a 1500 Silverado so max is 6000llbs..ANY AND ALL input, suggestions,recommendations would be appreciated and considefed....Thanks..y'all...

You didn't say what state you are in but the largest RV show in the USA is next month in Hershey, PA Sep 14-18.

Get some research done in the next month then hit this show or one near you to get a "feel" for different floor plans and types to help narrow down your ideas.

Heck, they might even have a good deal on a unit at a show.

A lot of the manufacturers have stopped posting the GVWR but by law it must be on the camper, formerly on the driver's side front, now on the main entry door (Jayco).

A lot of dealers who post online pictures will include a picture of the weight information for the camper.

We have a 2016 Keystone hideout 212lhs. It doesn't have a slide but has a short queen, two full bunks and a dinette for sleeping. 4300lbs dry and 7200lbs max. We tow it fine with our Diesel Jeep Grand Cherokee, which maxes at 7200#. Check out the floor plan.

The Grand Cherokee has had the diesel option available on certain model years since 2007 in the US with the 3.0L Mercedes diesel from 2007-2009, then again in 2011 with the new emissions standard.

Looked like your plan has an outside kitchen? That is the best thing to have. I hardly ever cooked inside. We had a Rockwood w/bunks in the back. The outside kitchen had a microwave, refrig, sink drained into the grey tank. & a large 3 shelf cabinet. Good luck on your journey. It took us over 2 yrs to fine the one we felt like home.

We have had several travel trailers over the years. We currently have a Rockwood Signature Ultralight 31 ft which we pulled with a Suburban with the larger 2500 engine. We liveinit for months at a time when we volunteer camphosting at National Parks. Here are my thoughts:

• Only plan to pull 75 - 80% of the tow capacity. Otherwise, there is a lot of wear on the engine of your tow vehicle as well as trouble with hills and long grades.
• Have a bed/bunk for each person. 6 people in a camper is a lot! Ours has 4 bunks at one end and queen bed at the other. Our max is 3-4 grandchildren and 2 adults.
• Understand that pulling a trailer with a tow vehicle with a long wheelbase takes some skill and patience.
• I would be careful about loaning out my trailer.
• The ultralights are made with very lightweight (read, not sturdy) materials

That being said, we have been very happy camping in our travel trailer and hope you have the same experience.

I have a Jay feather lite 23f Hybrid. it offers me lots of space when i'm by myself and with 3 drop downs and a slide I have space when the kids travel with me. Sambuster

The new JGC from 2014 to present has a 3.5l fiat diesel, gets about 28mpg highway and about 15-16mpg towing. It's pretty great all around family/rv puller.

I'm not a Dodge fan at all, but love a Cummins. So I was hoping they had the isb in them.

I have a 95 XJ (standard Cherokee) with the good old 4.0 in her. There's a lot of people who take them and put the Cummins isb in them. That's why I was wondering if it was stock.

This is an amazing show. My husband and I go every year even when we are not looking for a new camper. We love to see the new features and the wide variety of styles and prices. Intend on spending a minimum of 4 hours. Enjoy!

I have yet to go (which is sad because it's only about 2 hours away from me), but it's my understanding that a 4 hour stay may only "Scratch" the surface.

Maybe I will make it this year.

The Hershey RV Show is really an all day event. My wife and I went there last year. We wanted to see certain models. Once we saw those models, it was like we are here let's look around. We got there around 10 when it opened and left around the late afternoon 4 or 5 I think. We still didn't see everything. However, if you are interested in a certain RV like pop ups, then a few hours should be able to get a good idea. If you are bouncing back and forth on models or types, then the whole day might be more inline with that you are looking for. My wife and I walked the AC show this past February. We did that in 3-4 hours. However, we spend a good amount of time either talking to manufacturer reps in the trailers we were interested or trying to imagine how a trailer would work for us.

We have 2014 Flagstaff Microlite 25BHS....Google for a look at floorplan. They still make almost identical floor plan but with a few improvements (at least they are improvements in my opinion. Came in at dry weight of just under 4400 lbs my model year. "Sleeps 6", but actually sleeping 6 would be pushing it I think. Good luck and have fun in your search!

We just bought a 2017 Microlite 25BHS, and yes it would sleep six if you used the dinette. Not sure I would want to do that every night. I think to sleep six in this weight category, a hybrid would be their best bet.
