Attention Nursing Mothers

:thumbsup2

She'll be 4 months then...but I will look at what a baby bjourn is...thankx!

We had a baby bjorn and I loved it, until I got an ergo... the ergo was so much easier on my back, and will hold a newborn up to a toddler... you chould check them out, they distribute the weight across your hips, so you hardly feel like you are wearing anything! good luck!

Oh, if you don't have a nursing tank, get a cheap tank top and just cut off the whole area where your bra is. Then you can wear that under your shirt and you'll be covered in the stomach/back area. I liked that too, because then everything was covered, minus the millisecond when the baby was actually latching.

Great idea! :thumbsup2

This is neat- My ds is 2 months now and we are thinking of going in Sept. as well. Just curious, my ds was born 5/12 when was yours born?

BTW Hooter Hiders are GREAT! Very discreet! I bought some on ebay from somebody who makes them for like half the price as the actual hooter hiders.

I nursed my baby while in a sling or the Ergo carrier. I nursed all over the place, including while walking around. Using a sling is an easy way to be discreet.

Congratulations Disneymama83! My DD was born 05/27. I took my DS when he was 9mo (he is 2.5 now)...and I formula fed him. I looked up the hooter hiders...and you are right they are expensive! Thanksx.

Thanks & congrats to you as well! This will also be my first time having to worry about nursing because in the past I have taken my two older boys(3 & 6) when they were 1 or older. Having the nursing cover and bjorn will make me feel more comfortable:)

Here is a link to the nusring covers I have purchased. http://cgi.ebay.com/NURSING-COVER-U...4?cmd=ViewItem&pt=Feeding&hash=item3f01ae36ac
BTW - they have other sizes so you don't have to get the XL.

HAVE A GREAT TRIP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:)

I nursed my babies everywhere -- when they needed to eat! I'd find a bench, nurse on rides, whatever.

You don't need an expensive coverup to comfortably and discretely nurse an infant in public. If you think you need an extra coverup to be discrete, just have along a thin receiving blanket that you can put over baby and yourself. And if you want it to hang around your neck, just cut two small holes in the blanket and tie a ribbon or something through it. I did both. Also, just make sure you have a comfortable nursing bra. I also used a Bjorn w/ my two.

Good luck and have fun!

Do you babywear? Slings are good for hands-free, discreet nursing, and you might find it less cumbersome than pushing a stroller.

Sigh, if only that worked for every nursing pair. I tried and tried with every sling/wrap/etc I had, but ultimately, nursing in a sling/etc just didn't work for us unless I was topless. :rotfl:

FWIW, the BB is probably the least comfy for mom, and it's not that good for baby's hips. If you see an Ergo, it really supports the baby's legs and hips, like you are holding baby on your hip, how baby wraps their legs on you to hold on (even little babies do this!). The BB's bottom fabric is just too narrow. Makes it look less bulky, but results in sort of dangling baby by the pelvic bones. Not healthy for their growing pelvis. Plus, then people wear baby facing OUT, and if you've ever seen the overwhelmed facial expressions of babies facing out, you know it's best for them to be able to put head into mama/papa to just zone out when overwhelmed. Not to mention, I wore DS one time facing out in my Moby, and not only was it dangling him, but I felt EVERY movement he made, in my spinal muscles, and felt like I'd been kicked by a horse by the end of the day. Facing towards mama/papa, they still move around (and can interact with people behind and to the side), but they can't flail quite like when facing out, which is better for your spine. :)

So I'd go with an Ergo or similar over the Bjorn. I do appreciate the BB company, though, for their Little Potties! Helped tremendously when DS realized he was tired of "going" in diapers, but was still afraid of the toilet.

I purchased my cover up at Target (.com) for only $14.99. I found it much easier than a blanket.

I've nursed all over the place, wherever I could find a spot to sit down.

My babies weren't too happy to be covered up, and I found that it just attracted much more attention to us anyway. There is so much going on at DL, I doubt anyone would even notice you were there, let alone what you were doing.

We went when my second DD was a baby, and I used the baby center nursing room a lot, since it was quiet and uninteresting for her. She was about 9 months, and at a very distractable age, and would pop off and look around at any sound or thing she could see out of the corner of her eye, which made nursing in such a noisy, fun place pretty challenging. With your baby being younger, it should be easier to nurse anywhere, but it was nice to have a quiet little break from the park crowds sometimes.

I'll have a 7 month old when we go and I plan to make a cute mickey mouse nursing cover (I have everything to do so, just need to find the time).

OOh, I think I am feeling rather crafty...but what do I look up? "Patterns for???":)

If you google "free pattern nursing cover" you'll come up with several. Here's an example at the link below. It's basically just an apron with a piece of corset boning in between the straps of the top hem to give you a little window to see your nursing baby. It's very discreet - you'd really have to stand over a person to see the baby when they're nursing. I tried the D rings mentioned in the pattern, but they tended to slip, and it was a bit of a pain to adjust them and the baby. Eventually, I cut them out and just sewed a strap that was the right length for me. Then I'd just slip the whole thing over my neck and bring the baby up underneath to nurse. Also the weight of the fabric was kind of important. Too heavy a fabric and it would collapse the boning and I'd lose my window. Fabrics that were too light tended to whip around when it was windy. Best to look for a medium weight fabric that has a little bit of stiffness.

I should say that I am really not that great at sewing, and this is a really easy project. But of course you can buy them as well.

About Ergos... I wouldn't necessarily recommend them for a young baby. We had one and got the newborn insert, but we never managed to make it sit comfortably. A simple tube-type sling would have been much easier and comfier. When babies are old enough to hold their heads up and sit safely in the Ergo it's great - very easy on the shoulders - but I couldn't make it work for DD as a baby. Then again, we never really figured babywearing out - she preferred just to be held. :p

Personally I think nursing covers make it much MORE obvious that you're breastfeeding. They do reduce the odds of someone seeing - gasp - a flash of breast, but you'll probably find most of the people who are anti-breastfeeding are anti- the concept of breastfeeding, not the flesh itself (otherwise they'd give equally dirty looks to every woman in a low-cut top). So they might very well shoot you the evil eye when they notice you're wearing a nursing cover (which are pretty obvious, as they don't look like clothing) and infer that you are doing the despicable deed beneath it. :p Of course, if you feel more comfortable under one for your own sake, that's great; just don't do it for fear of offending other people, because it might not work.

Grrr... this is so true!! This old lady got up in a restaurant once and started SCREAMING at me for breastfeeding! She told me to go into the bathroom, and I calmy told her "No my baby is eating, you can take YOUR lunch into the bathroom." I offered to cover with a blanket (although you couldn't see anything anyway) but no, that wasn't good enough - she wanted me to STOP - no matter if the poor kid was suffocating under a blanket or not - hence proving your theory! :)

She left and the whole restaurant staff was appalled and kept apologizing!!

Kim :)

I don't have any little ones yet, but if/when I do I fully plan to nurse in public. (My mother was appalled when I mentioned this to her, btw.)

Go for it, wherever you are! I saw a picture online once of a mommy nursing her little girl while sitting on the curb of Main Street, USA and waiting for a parade. The little girl was wearing her Minnie Mouse costume, and it might just be one of the most precious things I have ever seen!

I'm surprised nobody listed rides/places, so I'll do that for ya :). Keep in mind most nursing babies are too little to be scared or distracted.

Pirates: What's really great is it's long and dark. I requested to sit in the back row.

Haunted Mansion: Again, dark and slow.

Train: Great because you can nurse as long as you want and then ride to whatever stop suits you.

Tiki room, although my little guy found the LOUD thunderstorm to be a distraction

Whatever boat is operating, although less private.

Small world

The people mover was great (and you now know how old my "baby" is!)

Other good places to nurse:
Obviously the baby center
There are benches near where the tours meet that are often deserted between tour departures
There is a bench between tomorrowland and adventureland that is rather hidden and quiet
Given some time I could think of others that may or may not have mentioned.

DCA was not in existance when my son was nursing, but others may have good suggestions for that park.

BTW, I never used a "cover", just wore t-shirts and a nursing bra. I never felt anybody was uncomfortable, and I'm certain most people did not even know what he was doing. My theory is baby's need to be fed and breastmilk was made for babies. If breastfeeding bothers someone, then they should put a blanket over THEIR head ;).

Best of luck and congrats on your new additon.

Definitely just feed your baby whenever and wherever they need to be fed.

I wore two tanks layered on top of each other. I could pull the top one up, and the bottom one down without flashing my back or tummy to the world. We also had a Hug-a-bub wrap which I fed DD in sometimes too (she was 11 months old at the time).

I did try the baby centre one night while waiting for fireworks, but found it really cold in there!!
