I'll see if I can make this as quick as I can. Last year my mom and I stayed at the Paradise Pier, it's the first time we stayed on sight in 15 years. Anyway, we made the agreement then to NEVER stay off sight again. I want to surprise her next year with a stay at the Grand Californian and have her not know until the cab driver pulled us up to the entrance. BUT-here's the thing- I want to make her think I got a deal to die for at an off sight hotel. Please tell me if my idea sounds too fake. I'm a funeral director in Reno, NV, (that's the truth) I could say (a few months from now of course) that I met with a woman who lives in S. CA who's mom died and after the arrangement we got to talking about our lives. I could say that I asked what her husband did for a living and it just so happened that he was the manager of say, Candy Cane Inn. She asks me if I'm a Disneyland fan, I say yes and then she offers my family and I a stay at the Candy Cane Inn for half price and will throw in park hopper tickets for us. If this sounds too fake, please tell me. If you can add anything, say so, or better yet, if any of you have any creative ideas, let me know. Thanks a bunch!!! :sunny:

It never worked when I was a kid, so I wouldn't even try lying to my mother. :rotfl:

However, if you think you can pull it off, there are two things I think Mom might sniff out:
1. You and your mom recently stayed onsite and swore you would never stay offsite again. And on your very next trip you'll stay offsite? Though a deal too good to pass up might be believable under the circumstances. Half-price lodging is pretty good!

2. I think half-price lodging and throwing in parkhoppers is a little over the top. Maybe I'm wrong and DL hoteliers routinely give out free parkhoppers, I don't know. If they do, this could be believable. If not, just leave it as the half-price lodging is too good to pass up.

I think it's really sweet that you want to surprise your mom with such a lavish treat! I hope you have a wonderful stay. Oh, and that you write a trip report afterward... :sunny:

Thanks Alex2Mommy! I totally agree with everything you say. :sunny: I may have to end up telling her we're staying at Paradise Pier, she would believe that. Any more ideas anyone??? :confused3

Hey we live in the Reno area too! :) I think staying again at the PP might be more believable. But honestly my Mom would probably believe anything I'd tell her. So it depends on how easy it is to get your Mom to buy in to things. I wouldn't go over the top with the story, I'd just tell her about this great deal you found that includes a really cheap stay and a great discount on the tickets! Good luck!

Ha Ha yeah...I think the half price at CCI is believable but I wouldnt go so far as to say the tickets are throwins...maybe you could say they will give you 5 day ph passes for the price of 3? But the story to me is pretty good...my mom would have believed it....but you have to act all excited and act like you just talked to that person and your coming to her straight away ;)

How fun! I would either tell her that you helped a family that happened to be the General Manager at one of the local hotels.... you pick which one. When you got into a conversation about where they were from you spoke of how you love Anahiem and of course Disney. Either you could then say the man was so greatful for your help to them that the next time you come to disney he would either love to comp you a room or upgrade you to a suite. Maybe that is how you could sell it that you would even think about going off site again. I am in the Travel biz and this is a real scenerio that could happen. Free passes would be a little over the top. In fact you could even make a mention that he said he wished he could give them to you but that would be at your expense...... If you don't like that option you could use the same story but that it was the front desk mgr at PP and the offer was for the employee rate of 60% off....... Whatever have a GREAT time!!! :Pinkbounc
