Lets see who is the worst germ phobe ever!!! My and my sister were just talking and when I told her that I wanted to bring some foam soap to the parks with me so I could wash my kids hands with foam soap and bottled water to avoid the public bathrooms, she wanted me to be commited!!! With all this talk of the "ultimate stomach bug" down there I'm freaking out! I also make my kids wear their winter gloves here at home anywhere we go to keep their hands clean. Now let me tell you a little secret about her.....she refuses to brush her teeth and use the sink water, she uses bottled water instead. She also refuses to sleep in the bed and will choose the couch instead at the hotel.
We both bring our own sheets too......:rotfl: There is a reason behind that one. Let me know if you want to hear it!
Who is the bigger germ phobe????? Looking forward to hearing better germ phobe actions!!!!
Thanks

Y'all both sound pretty germ-phobic to me!:rotfl: I am pretty lax an germ stuff- I always say we are "building up our immunity" when we go to a hotel and sleep on their sheets, use their towels, etc. I honestly don't worry very much about stuff like that. We stay pretty healthy all year, too.

We do, however, use lots of hand sanitizer when we are at WDW (almost nowhere else, though). Just the thought of all those thousands of hands, all touching the same railings and door handles, and who knows what germs are all over them! We try to stop for a sanitizing break every half hour or so, and I have trained us not to touch our faces with our hands. Even with all the precautions, one of us usually ends up with some sort of bug during the trip or when we get home.

You're both a little extreme to the point of kookiness. Please take that in the nicest possible way. :)

David

So with all these extra precautions do you, your sister and your kids ever get sick?

Ya know......
My family does because my kids will bring it home from school then I get it. Her family is sick right now with cold symptoms. I still try to avoid the stomach bug no matter what extreme I have to go to even if it means making myself crazy and everyone around me. I just hate to throw up!!! I'd rather have diarrhea for a week straight all day long then to throw up once!

Good grief. That is kooky. :rotfl:

I doubt you'd find many people who would agree with you, given the choices you list.

I'm not too bad.:rolleyes1
At the parks:
I will not let my kids touch any staircase hand rails, escalator hand rails.
I let my kids use the bathrooms, they are little and have to. But I take antibacterial wipes for their hands, I will also confess to using clorox wipes to clean the toilet seat and then still putting the paper down before they sit!

In the hotel:
This is where I get germophobic. I will not let anyone sit, or lay on the bedspreads, ever! As soon as I get in the room I take them off. I have heard they hardley ever get washed and it just sceeves me out!LOL I wipe down the door handles and phone and remote with clorox wipes. I clean the toilet seat and I always check the place for bedbugs.:scared1: No one is allowed to walk barefoot on the carpet or sit on it. I also spray the place with lysol and antibacterial fabreeze for the couch. We are DVC'ers so we are usually in a 1 bedroom with a full kitchen. I will not use any of the utensils or plates, cups, even if DH cleans them. No way! I bring paper plates, and plastic cups and utensils. Boy, I really sound like a nut! Now that I am writing it all out, it seems excessive! Somebody help, I need an intervention!LOL:lmao: I don't want to jinx us but none of us have ever gotten sick at WDW and we go often.

I don't think you sound too kooky...I have a lifetime supply of clorox wipes in my carry on bag...from the time I hit the door of my room, I'm wiping everything in sight. I even wipe elevator buttons, and hand rails in hallways!

I guess I am weird.I wash hands with soap and water all the time but I don't stress out about germs on me or my dd, and we never get sick.Which is a pretty good sign considering I work as a nurse in a hospital.

Well, first, I hope you don't avoid the bathrooms completely?

Okay, really, it's not necessary to "bring your own" soap, and water(!). If you are concerned about germs on the faucets/dispensers, simply use a paper towel between your hand and the faucet to turn on/off the water, and on the soap dispenser to, well, get soap.

Your kids wearing their gloves everywhere is only effective if they don't touch their faces/mouths with their gloved hands, or put any food in their mouths that they've picked up with the gloves on.

The sink water vs. bottled water thing again, but this time for your sister's teeth? WHAT do the two of you think is in the water supply at Disney that is so dangerous???

As for sleeping on the couch? Ugh. Not without clean bedding on in, and then what's the point of being scrunched up on an uncomfortable couch when you can be sprawled comfortably in bed (unless, of course, the bed is too high to get into and you're short enough and THAT'S the only reason for sleeping on the couch).

Bring your own sheets? Okay, but really, the linens on your bed when you check in ARE clean. You'd do better to worry about the blanket, the bedspread, and the pillows.

Yes, you're both a bit overboard. You can't develop antibodies to something if you're never exposed to it. Were you healthy as children? Are you both healthy now? Were your parents this germophopic when you were growing up? I'm betting they weren't, and you grew up just fine; in fact, that's WHY you grew up just fine.

OMG you're both as crazy as I am!!! :cool1:

You can always smell ME on the plane- I've got my lysol wipes out, wiping down EVERYTHING... then washing my hands and using my nasal spray so my nasal passages stay moist...

YEAH, I'm a freak too! WHOO!

WOW you made me feel better about some of my "issues".
I have a question when you bring the gloves home what do you do with them? What if your child scratches their nose with a glove chock full of "germs"?
I had visions of things people do on couches & I would pick the bed:rotfl:

Well I am proud to report that on our 6 night vacation I didn't use a single lysol wipe or a drop of purel, used hotel provided linens unaltered (even the comforter!!) and guess what....not a single sniffle or unexpected trip to the toilet. Take your vitamins and get adequate rest and you'll be fine. :)

Oh gosh, I forgot to add i bring sheets and blankets too!:rotfl:
Thank goodness for the Owners Locker, it will be a life saver for my future trips! No more lugging all the stuff back and forth!

You know, David, I hate to vomit, too - but given the choices, yep, I'd concede to it, ONCE, if it meant avoiding the other completely :teeth:

Jeff Foxworthy does a bit on this, well, on the flu and its eliminations - I'll see if I can find it and since it's a bit um, coarse, I'll PM it to you if you want.

I use a lot of hand sanitizer, but nothing more then that, aside from washing my hands before eating and stuff.

I was with you until this part. Even though I wouldn't do the other things you mentioned, I can understand why people do them. However, I can't understand what you think could still be lingering on metal flatware and ceramic dishes after you wash them yourself. Have you ever thought about the people at the paper plates and cup factory that may have touched and/or breathed on your stuff before packaging? I would imagine that germs just absorb right into those paper goods!:sad2: :rotfl2:

Ummmmm do you ride the rides cause they are dirtier than the restrooms or hotel beds

Once when I visited the doctor, while he washed his hands he explained to me that the best thing to always do is to soap up and wash the faucet handles with your soapy hands as you wash your hands, then rinse off the faucet handles as you rinse your hands. That way you aren't contaminating your clean hands with germs from the faucet handles.

Nowadays many public sinks have automatic faucets that you don't even need to touch.
