Attack of the Lakeshore Lodge

Floated by on the blue route last week. Forgot to take pics while gawking... Hehe. Snapped this one from Ft Wilderness dock.

Asked boat skipper how many stories when done ... He wasn't sure, but said he heard 7 (current height) or 10.

It's big and it's close to ft wilderness. ( ... probably not news to anyone, something to see first hand)

I agree it's too big too close too .... everything.

I really hate the move to towers. I think it really kills the vibe. You gotta ask is LL really needed? The parks are already way past capacity. I get the DVC is very attractive from a business perspective. However, Long waits at boats and monorails should give the execs a clue that adding more rooms is not going to help guest experience. It will hurt. But I bet I'm in the minority here.

I agree with you I don't see the need for this when we have cfw, ccv and brv. I think they should be a little more creative, but I haven't seen it yet so maybe it will be quite different, I trust them

I think you answered your own question.

DVC development decisions are not made becuase existing owners need the new resorts. They are made because Disney needs new owners.

Condos have a much better tax structure as compared with hotels. It is much better for Disney business wise so I get it. We have been DVC since 1996. Back then being DVC was like being in an exclusive club. I gotta admit, that felt pretty special. Now, not so much. Just trying to get a ticket to moonlight madness will show you how much DVC has grown.

Here’s the former reflections concept for these units.

In this space now are four very tall A-shaped metal frames presumable for different-style cabins. And four more on the far side hotel complex. Also where they are is not a green area but still mostly sand from the old beach. They are very close to the lake.

Towers are cheaper to build, but they're also cheaper to maintain. I selfishly bought at BLT because you can innately tell that it's low maintenance just by looking at it. That creates an ideal SAP situation where you pay low maintenance fees for your home resort, while enjoying everyone else's high maintenance (and admittedly cooler) resorts.

I also bought at Poly after the tower was built, and the maintenance fees there immediately went *down*.

Old = high maintenance
Wood = high maintenance
Sprawling = high maintenance
Elaborate pool complex = high maintenance
Responsible for the welfare of zoo animals = high maintenance

The upfront cost of DVC is nothing to sniff at, but maintenance fees become the biggest cost if you own long enough. #TeamTower

The A-Frames were always on the concept art alongside the treehouses. The treehouses are to go behind the current A frames being built.

These look like they are going to cost a TON of points, but who will be able to book them? At least the Poly Bungalows and CCV Cabins can be used by people who have a lot of cheap sleep-around-points. With resale restrictions, the LSL treehouses are not SAP-compatible.

For years, these treehouses will only be accessible to whales who bought a ton of direct points. Down the road, sure, normal folk may be able to hoard enough LSL points via resale. But even then, LSL would need to keep its maintenance fees in check (which the Cabins at Fort Wilderness would potentially screw up).

This is part of the reason I'm going with more direct for my next add on. If these truly are expensive they'll likely be available at 7 months and I don't want to wipe out my entire inventory of RIV direct on it. If the pool is amazing I can see myself booking it. If not, then I'll just book a cabin at CCV with my resale points.

So it may have treehouses and A frames??? That is pretty amazing and has just upped my interest.
That's what the original concept art showed. Will have to see if Disney follows through. Hope so!

ETA:

Here is the original concept art for the treehouses. They were planned to go to the side of the main building. You can see the pathways for the A frames just barely in the foreground. Also including the original concept art for the A-frames, much closer to the water.
