Anyone use an iphone with the gophone plan? A friend is giving me a used iphone 4 (ATT). Will I be able to get a sim card and use it as a Gophone?

What is the most economical monthly plan. I don't need the unlimited. I won't use much data - mostly calls and texts?

You can't get a data plan for iPhone on GoPhone.
You can do $50 unlimited talk and text or $25 for 250 mins and unlimited text.

You can use a Straight Talk sim card in an unlocked AT&T iPhone, and they offer a no-contract, $45/mo unlimited everything plan. That's probably your cheapest option for service on a used iPhone.

I looked at buying a used iPhone and getting a plan. The one I liked most was Walmart's StraightTalk. You buy a Sim card and you will be hooked up to the network the phone was originally on, in your case AT&T. Cost is $45/mo for unlimited talk, text and data. No contract.

Here's info: http://www.straighttalksim.com/

I also looked at Virgin Mobile. Their network is very skimpy. Not recommended.

Thank you. I knew I could do this with Straightalk (and net10 too). I was hoping to save a little monthly by using ATT gophone. But was confused by their plans and wasn't really sure if it would be cheaper than $45.

I was hoping to give my old iPhone to my 8 year old to use to play games on when I upgraded my phone. I will have to buy a new sim card and get a data plan to if i want token him get on our wifi at home, correct?

Nope. It will be deactivated as a phone, but can use wifi in the house. So basically like an iPod. My friend did the same thing.

I was going to give my 12 yr old my old iPhone when I decide to upgrade. She has a pay as you go phone and average $20/mo on it. The iphone was basically going to be her ipod. My dh shared a family plan with me with a dumb phone. In the time since, his work gave him a blackberry and he stopped using his personal line over time.

Now after the iPhone 5 is out the iphone4 is free with 2 yr contract. I have ordered one for her and replaced dh's line with it. I'll keep mine until it dies or I choose to upgrade, and she gets a brand new machine for free.

In my world, giving her an iPhone for $20/mo data was a wash because we won't be using her pay as you go phone anymore. If it was her iPod + pay as you go it would have been the same $$$. YMMV of course.

I considered doing the pay as you go plans with old iPhones, but our AT&T bill is projected to be $100, and the Walmart plan is $45/phone, for $90 total. For me and the way we use our phones a $10 sav wasn't worth the jump away from AT&T which has given us great coverage (esp in the rural areas our relatives live in)

so. . .

does anyone use NET10 with an iphone? I looks like if you sign up for the monthly automatic payment it is $45 instead of $50 . . .

Net10 doesn't seem to have data plans, just talk. For $45 you could have data too from StraightTalk.

I think that they do have data - $50/month unless you set up auto payments then it is $45/month.

from the net10 site - with SIM order -

"A $50/30 Day Unlimited* Monthly Service Plan is required for activation (Talk, Text, Web/Email, 411/30 Access Days)"
