If you ever had AT&T residential DSL service, go to http://www.dslspeedsettlement.com/ to register for a class action lawsuit settlement. This includes DSL service from SBC Internet
Services, Inc., d/b/a AT&T Internet Services; BellSouth Telecommunications, Inc.;

I never understood how class action settlements like that worked...

I had DSL through Bellsouth from 2000-2003, which seems to fall under the guidelines. Is there something I need to prove I was a customer at this time?

You just enter your information so that they can verify it.

Are we 100% sure that this website is legit? It is asking for information like my date of birth and last four digits of my SSN-- little red flags are going up in my mind. Anyone actually checked court records of this court in Ohio to see if this all legit, and if so, if this particular website is the one that is dealing with the lawsuit? --Katie

It is legit ~ there was a tiny blurb buried in my latest phone bill. It really didn't give much info, just to go to the website for more info.

If you click on the section that says "for more information " it gives you the contact information for the people involved, including the court system that will be dealing with this claim. f you do a search you will find that the attorney listed is real and I plan on contacting his office in the morning just to be sure, but they will need person information to file a claim on your behalf.

I have wondered for years if they were doing this...

class action usually means you give up any rights to later sue (you also often have to opt out of a class action, not just opt in), being part of a class action = thousands for attorneys & pennies for 'the victim'

I got the information from one of the pages in my phone bull a couple of months ago. Then I checked online to be sure. I was also skeptical about adding my SS digits. I did not see anything online to make me believe it was a scam.

Cool. Thanks. Even a few bucks is a few bucks!

I had a problem with mine. I kept calling and calling years ago. it was never the speed I paid for. Of course the tech on the line said "well it can vary". But it looked like I was getting the older speed after I upgraded to their higher speed. you bet I signed up. A few dollars will help with the Disney fund:cool1:

Does anyone know what ever became of the class action suit against Comcast? They were "shaping" internet traffic, sandvine. I haven't heard anything about it in a few years, curious if it's still going forward.

The details in the settlement page say that you might get back $2.00/month that they determine your speed was something lower than what they told you it would be. Or if they determine something else, you MIGHT get back $2.90 per month. Or if they determine that they owe you nothing, they will give you $2.00 TOTAL for becoming part of the class action suit. :sad2:

Yeah, I read that on mine. But I didn't recognize that it said $2 per month, thought it was just a $2 one time payment. They probably spent more than $2 per customer on the mailing costs and materials.:rotfl:

I'm glad we are not the only ones that have had troubles, I noticed that sometimes ours would run slow and when I call they would tell me that I was paying for the highest speed so it must be my computer.

We had them and never really got great speed with them. When we moved we had to sign up with our local phone company....and signed up for the medium speed package. Last month I called because now that we're also using it for gaming and my sons laptop it was really really slow. I got a phone call back from the tech and he said it was a mistake in how they'd entered it and it should be fixed now....it was CRAZY fast after that. So for the past 3 years we've been paying for the medium speed package and been getting their slowest speed!!!! No apologies, no refunds.....nothing. I hate living in a small town without choices for Internet and phone service LOL

"Pennies for the victim" isn't always the case.. I was part of a class action lawsuit against a well known life insurance company about 15 years ago and received a check for $668..

Class action suits can vary widely.. My brother has received (and is still receiving) checks in the thousands of dollars as a result of class action suits against a very large number of contractors - regarding his exposure to asbestos when he worked as a steamfitter years ago - and the health consequences that he and many others are now suffering from..:(

I think the amount of money anyone can expect to receive will depend on what the action is "for" and what the consequences to the customer were..

I had AT&T as my long distance provider a number of years ago (and what a nightmare that turned out to be when I tried to get rid of them ), so I would be curious to know more about this.. However, I don't feel comfortable giving out such personal information online - considering I have never received any written info regarding this class action suit in the mail..
