Do we have to reserve a room at the resort to have the option to do everything at Atlantis?

Can you just go to Atlantis without booking an excursion?

We are swimming with the dolphins at 1:00 pm. Will we have enough time to go to Alantis beforehand? or Will we be able to go afterwards and still get to "Discover Atlantis"?

Thanks !!

You can go to Atlantis to shop, dine, or gamble. You cannot use the pools, slides or wander out to the beach without booking a room at Atlantis or Comfort suites which is adjacent to Atlantis. The rooms range from $160.00 AAA discount at Comfort Suites to $250.00 at Atlantis. This is good for 4 people per room booked.

We went last Oct (late) and booked a room at the Comfort Suites. The hotel is a dump but that's not a big deal if you are just wanting to use Atlantis. IMHO, I'd skip Atlantis unless you are there in the summer. In late October it was COLD the water is apparently NOT heated and many many of the slides were CLOSED! That and they are fairly strict on the 48inch height requirement (my 7 year old was pushing it), so if you have little ones they doubtless won't have tons of fun in the cold waters..

That aside, I'd love to see it in the summer when it's hot and everything is open. Otherwise, I'd just stay on the ship and forget about Nassau--it's dirty.

I can't wait for our Western Carib cruise in NOV!

The Wonder was great, I am hoping I like the Magic just as much.

Ronald the waiter from India on the Wonder was just AMAZING. He is the MAN!

So sad to hear your last post about the Atlantis not being worth it in October. We have booked 2 rooms thru the comfort suites as the kids were so excited about the pools. Do you know if there is a way to find out if the pool/slides are closed?

wow, I hope that this is not the case. I have a room reserved there for October cruising, and the main reason we got it was because of the water slides.

We didn't find out until we got there, I guess you could contact the Atlantis directly. They did have one little kid slide open (out of like 3-4 if I remember) but the problem was more with the temp of the water--which was like 70 and the temp outside--which was like 65--. I like water like a bathtub. Atlantis in late Oct or the winter is probably fine if you either like or can tolerate COLD water.

I will say that the Shark slide was really amazing. Cooler then any of the slides at WDW.

I guess the other thing that I would say is that it was so hyped for us that when at least half of the slides (probably more) were not open and the water was freezing it was a bit of a downer (especially compared with the Disney Wonder which was absolutely EVERYTHING we expected and MORE)

That's all, enjoy yourself and think POLAR BEAR CLUB!!

Wow, it is nearly October now, and it is like 90' at Nassau. Was that cold weather mentioned maybe a freak cool spell for that time of year?

KLDESQ ,
If the water was to cold in the Bahamas to enjoy in October, How will you be able to swim at Castaway Cay In November? We went in January and it was chilly but a lot of people were swimming.

:D

Quick question. What does everyone consider cold? My favorite beach, Hampton Beach, NH, doesn't heat up over 60 in the middle of the summer. You know the feeling of your ankles going numb, cold? So what is cold to people calling the water cold in Nassau? Or is it Air temperature? I'm going October 2003.

It was overcast the day that we were in Nassau. The ironic thing about these series of posts is that I was attempting to impart advice to some unsuspecting person(s) based on my ACTUAL experience.
Here are the facts, whether or not any of you want to accept them:
1. Atlantis DOES NOT heat the water in their pools, slides, etc.
2. Two members of the staff told me that none of them swim after Oct due to the cold weather.
3. The day we were there was overcast (i.e. no sun) which made it feel even cooler.
4. After some date certain, i.e. 15 Oct they CLOSE SOME, NOT ALL of their slides. The really long family one was CLOSED when we were there. The Shark one and the Leap of faith WERE open but the bulk of the rest were CLOSED.

I would have appreciated having this info prior to our trip. If I did, I would have chosen to skip Atlantis and do something else..

What bothers me with these boards is that if someone in good faith passes along info that some of you either don't like or agree with you attack him/her. That's not only not fair---it's stupid.

It would be a bummer to not have a great time @ Atlantis,as it is not cheap.I think all opinions posted help us make a better informed decision and that is the main reason I participate on these boards.Having said that I will share our family's experience,we were @ Atlantis for 5 days and we had a BLAST!We are returning this year Oct 13-19 and I reconfirmed with the hotel that all slides are to be open, height restrictions of 48"is enforced, and only the Mayan temple pool will be heated,it's generally too warm this time of year to need more heat. The Atlantis is an experience that I and my family (DS12,DS 11, and DD4) would not want to miss.

Does anyone know what it will be like in April. We are going at Easter and I wonder if it will be warm enough and will the slides be open?

Hampton Beach is definitely cold! I stayed there one summer when I was working in Andover, MA. I loved rollerblading there in the evenings, but HOO-MAMA, the water was COLD!!!
