I will be with my mom, 5 yr old and 18 month old, so am wondering what "extensive walking" is. We can take the stroller for baby, but is the walking really far? We are considering doing the tour of the aquarium at Atlantis.

We took the dig tour and there was walking up and down stairs. That might be a problem with the stroller. I remember commenting that I was glad my parents stayed on the ship as my mother has a bad knee and would have had trouble with the stairs.

We did the dig on our own, and the way I recall they had elevators for the handicap and strollers. This was very fun and I would recommend it for everyone. As far as long walks they have alot of places to stop along the way and sit to enjoy the fish. Enjoy your cruise!!!!

We did the Dig..and pushed a stroller along...I don't recall it holding us back from anywhere....But then again...My DH had to pick it up a few time to tote it up/down the stairs. There are quiet a few stairs along the paths. I don't recall seeing any elevators...but then again I wasn't looking for them either. I know outside while your walking from one area to the other there are no elevators.

I would definately recommend doing the DIG on your own. Then you can go at your own pace. The tour seems to rush through at a faster place. The grounds are extensive and there is a lot to see. If you do it on your own then you can pick and choose what you see and how fast to go.

I have not been on the Atlantis tour but I'm guessing that their "extensive walking" is nothing if you are used to WDW. :)

If you want to do the "Dig" at your pace what is the best way to go about it? Taking a taxi to Atlantis and then buying a ticket there? I remember reading something about buying a wristband for access to Atlantis, can anyone advise about this?

To get the wristbands you have to be a hotel guest...so you'll have to book either a day room or a room for the night. No other way to get the bands. But by getting the bands you'll also have acess to the dig and everything else at Atlantis like the water park, pools, lagoons, beaches, water toys...and so on. Depending on what your wanting to do and when you go depends on if getting a room is worth it. Our family of for went in Sept and got a day room for $150. The admission to the dig alone would have cost us real close to $100...so for $50 more we were able to swim, do the water slides...well everything I mentioned above. To us it was well worth it. According to what time of year you go depends on how much a day room costs...I've heard of them all the way up to $250. You can't make arrangemnets ahead of time for a day room..it's on a first come basis...and I beleive they even have some days/times that they don't do day rooms. By getting a day room at atlantis your given bracelets for 5 people...and eveyone no matter age has to have a band to get acess to everything. You can also get/book a room at the comfort suites near by Atlantis...and get 4 wristbands for atlantis.

But if you do the tour you get a guide who has a key for all the elevators and lifts so you don't have to lift the stroller...

or take a scooter down the stairs...

With regard to these excursion options at Atlantis I'm beginning to get worried and confused. My DS(6) travels long distances in a wheelchair. Although he does walk with his crutches, he gets tired if he tries to do too much. Anyway, the more I read about these Atlantis excursions they mention a boat, van, bus, walking thru sand, tour guides, pace issues and "extensive walking". Have you done any or all of these excursions in your scooter and what would be your advice for two famililes traveling together, total of 7, with one of the three children in a wheelchair?

We really want to see the hotel (Atlantis), see the acquarium and just stroll thru shops, that's all. Can we do all that on our own? How are the taxis at toting your scooter?

I know I'm asking a lot of you, this may go beyond your area of experience, I just thought I'd ask. Please, anyone, all responses are welcome!!!

Thanks!

We stayed at the Atlantis when my children were 1 and 3. It is a lot of walking. The elevators (The few that they have) are tucked out of the way and hard to find. I am talking about outside around the grounds- not the elevators for the guest rooms. I remembering saying to my husband how would a handicapped person get around? They don't have the same building codes we have. We ended up taking the children out of the strollers and carrying them up and down the stairs. I am not sure of what they show you on the tour. We were guest and had full access to the hotel. It is a great place but it is huge. Keep in mind a lot walking and a lot of stairs.
